    Has anyone noticed they had light refraction in the gunbarrel for OHMSS and Diamonds are forever, but didn't bring anything like that back until Goldeneye? Also, love the use of synth in OHMSS and Goldeneye!

    Watching them all back to back you have to admire how quick a shot Brosnan is. He's more or less already shooting as he turns, it's impressive!

    Brosnan was the best he was never cheesy like the other ones were. there was no flailing of the arms no stupid posing crouches just a difinitive cold turn that said "your dead". perfection to my eyes.

    When you really think about it, its funny how it has basically looked the same since '62 until now. There's few movie franchises to compare it to, but keeping the same opening sequence for 50 yrs is a surprisingly well grounded tradition. It's even weirder looking at it the other way around. I don't suspect they knew any of this during the filming of Dr. No - no one would've suspected that they would lay down the formula for 50 yrs of Bond films, such as the gun barrel and pre-title sequences.

    To answer your question, Bob Simmons was a stunt co-ordinator for the early james bond movies and choreographed most of the fights during the Sean Connery era. He is best known for the opening in thunderball when Bond sends his condolenses to a widow by punching her out and when Bond pulls off the veil, it is a man. That man is Bob Simmons

    • @superspy6

      +Godzilla52 It was an after thought, the gun barrel was made once production had finished and Connery was unavailable to film.

    • @Godzilla52
      @Godzilla52 8 років тому +2

      +superspy6 Connery did 5 Bond films between 1962 and 1967. They could have easily incorporated Connery into the gunbarrel during any of those films or did it with Lazenby during OHMSS or Connery again during Diamonds are Forever. Instead they waited till Moore for Live and Let Die, despite the fact that Moore had the worst gunbarrel stance out of any of the Bond actors or stuntmen. I'm just saying it could have been done alot earlier than it was.

    • @superspy6
      @superspy6 8 років тому +10

      Godzilla52 You do know that the stunt double only did up to Goldfinger, Connery took over for Thunderball and You only live twice, Lazenby did his gunbarrel and then they used the Connery gunbarrel for Diamonds are forever.

    I remember seeing a documentary on it once. A cameraman came up and was like, "Wouldn't it be cool if we got a scene with Bond shooting a villain through the eyes of the villains gun." And that's how it came about. They took a pinhole camera and put it through the barrel of a .357 if I'm not mistaken.

    It fits directly into the pre-credits sequence, as sort of an introduction to the new Bond (and a new philosophy of what a Bond film is). It's Bond finishing off a kill that makes him a full-fledged agent, so I guess he doesn't get the old school gunbarrel sequence yet. I do think the CGI blood looked pretty dodgy.

      @@NeighborModder Whether you think Moore was the true 007 or not, the fact is that he was 46 when he debuted in Live and Let Die, and finished with a View to Kill when he was 58. By the end of the 70’s, he was starting to show his age around the early 80’s and his light-hearted slapstick Bond was turning the series into a Carry On parody. If anyone was the closest to looking like Bond, it’s Timothy Dalton. He read the novels to understand the character and played it straight.

The gunbarrel graphic and music would differ between films but was the same footage of the actor. I always thought they filmed a new sequence with actor on every film but I can see now I've been mistaken.

    First 3 were done by stuntman Bob Simmons. Connery TOTALLY nailed it when he first did it in Thunderball. He was the only Bond who did the spin as if he didn't know the shooter was there until the last split second......with all respect to the other Bonds, they did the spin so robotically as to make you think they knew the shooter was there 5 min. before. Dalton was pretty good.

    My favorites are "Liceanse to Kill" (it fit the harsher nature of the film with the darker score), "GoldenEye" (again, the music was a bit unique and lended itself to the tone of the film) and "Casino Royale" (because it was flawlessly integrated into the story). Least favorite is without a doubt "Die Another Day", it was far too gimmicky with the lame Matrix Bullet. "Quantum of Solace" is second least favorite as it was too hastey. (Although the "Skyfall" gunbarrel was amazing.)

    i think Pierce Brosnans Goldeneye one was one the iconic moments of his tenure as bond and is one of my two favourites along with Casino Royales use of the sequence as a part of the film.

    Poor Roger Moore... still forced to rock the bellbottom tux until 1985. And agreed with Mark, Dalton's walk-on is the most badass.

    I believe Simmons was the one who played Bond's original silhouette in the shots. Even I can tell that the early gunbarrel shots that the person wasn't Connery, you can't even see the face.

    I actually think Casino Royale is one of the best. It's cool how they work it into the story

    Lazenby the best, the quirky way its filmed then the flamboyant drop to the knee. The one aspect of his Bond that was definitely better than everybody else's.
