Thanks For Watching!
#Budget #Streaming #Gear - Навчання та стиль
The first of a 3-part series. What's your favorite piece of gear you own? Mine is.. something I'll be showing you guys real soon 👀
I've really enjoyed my Stream Deck+ ! It's a pretty decent integration of a GoXLR Mini and a Stream Deck, in my opinion. It isn't ULTRA feature packed, but for a growing creator it allows me to do a ton in terms of managing audio and visuals on my streams, all in one place!
I think most of your subs would watch you make any kind of video. I’d watch gaming stuff, travel stuff, etc. Streaming advice is your bread and butter but I bet you could grow your brand way beyond that.
Great to see this series kicking off! I have a setup based on your recommendations in the past. It closely resembles setup #3, except I use a Hero 3+ with the knock off cam link and a touch more up-market mic and lighting. It has been SUPER reliable and I bought it used over 2 years ago. Shameless plug but check out my most recent short for an example of how it looks. Happy to share the rest of my setup if it'd help!
Looking forward to the other two parts Harris. Thank you for being a baller like always. I wouldn't even be able to make content if it wasn't for your guidance, so I appreciate you!
I started using my pixel 7 (Google phone) as a primary webcam and like, wow.
Thank you for everthing, You tought us a lot about streaming and making the best setups
One thing I will say about the C920 is that you can definitely make that thing SING with a few adjustments in OBS. Toggling off auto exposure and dropping it down a notch or two will help with the blown out whites, while tweaking sharpness, brightness, and contrast a little bit will also bring that camera up from the absolute bottom of the barrel it sits at using out of the box settings. Just my little added tidbit!
100%! Also mess with the white balance to make it a tiny bit orange (like Hariss recommends!) and it looks a LOT better
If you capture some samples with a color checker card you can roll that into DaVinci resolve and generate a lut with all the color tweaks for the camera pass this into obs and assign to the camera it's like magic you can take any webcam with gain turn down and a mildly dark exposure and fixed settings and pull life into it
Auto settings DESTROY webcams. Manually setting everything is by far the best way to make them look amazing.
@CameraTim absolutely get it as good as you can all manual settings take screen shots of the settings make sure your not blowing out the Highs or crushing the lows putting an nd4 or nd8 filter over the web cam and dropping the gain in favor of longer exposure and using a pair of led panels. Once you have it as good as you can get a small clip or a screenshot from obs with a color card in view DaVinci resolve can create and export a LUT for obs but you can also make tweaks to the lut if you want to go for a certain feel in the color. I have done this with a Logitech brio at a 1080P60 before I spent almost 20k on my podcast setup but I do guest and stuff nowadays have an obsession with gear
@@ZoeyR86 Funny enough, I made a video a couple years ago on making an OBS LUT in Resolve, but yeah, definitely the way to do it.
My first mic was a Fifine too, And it sounds really good! with the right tuning you can get a sound close to a professional mic
The first one was actually my favorite! I think it was the perfect balance of using what you own (smart phone), and purchasing quality, yet affordable items (light + mic). I also think it looks the best. Nice video :)
My man Oz with the best tips on how to be budget friendly. Love your videos btw
Remember the best gear is the gear you own, so if you don’t have the best stuff it’s ok. Focus on your content and what you’re offering. Don’t go broke trying to have the latest and greatest
so true
Perfect video with a touch of everything~ humor, good advice, amazing cuts.
Oh, looking forward to part two and three and I think that second angle you had during the second one was the best
Love that you changed up the angle!
My 1st mic was the $30 FiFine usb mic, I only upgraded to the Rode Podmic cus I got a bonus from work I was not expecting. Its Seriously a great mic for the cost paired with the Reaper plugins in OBS for all the EQ stuff
For XLR audio input, I'd check out the Focusrite solo and 2i2, which are amazing! I'm using the solo, which is mono, but it works. They also have the Vocaster, which is meant for podcasting and streaming.
I'm impressed by how well the Go Pro handled the balancing of lighting, etc.
I loved all 10 minutes of this video that was uploaded 2 minutes ago! Great work!
I have that Fifine mic with the LED you linked and I love it. It’s miles better than the Hypercast Solo I was previously using.
I made a setup learning from you! 3 years ago i started knowing NOTHING about streaming and audio/video.... the growth i made. From no cam to and amazing satisfying cam setup with tha avermedia pw513 its amazing! Looks sooooo smooth now. ❤❤
I love this! Your last setup is basically what I've got except I got the GoPro Hero 5 as a present way back though the Camlink and Seiren mini were more expensive over here unfortunately.
For anyone wondering about Fifine, I have been using the K688 USB/XLR and it’s been really good. I was pretty surprised. I did have to mess with some audio settings to really dial it in but once I did it’s been great!
Always enjoy these, and find them inspiring! Makes me want to do my own "budget streaming setup" video one day, haha.
But am I the only one who thinks the Fifine mic sounded significantly better than the Seiren? I've NEVER liked the sound of the Seiren, and this was a reminder of that.
6:08 that just added some extra engagement. Great Happy Accident 😊
The original HD Elgato Facecams are turning up used for not much more than a GoPro Hero 4 now! That'll change the budget setup game. I picked up 2 recently (one was £60!) and am aiming to get another two to turn my home recording studio into a kitchen table version of Daryl Hall's house. It's a recording studio, so (like streamers) I've got audio well covered and the lack of mic in a Facecam is....probably a blessing. Well done Harris, as ever. I'm neither a streamer nor gamer but your advice always works for me as a musician and studio owner!
I always appreciate these Harris. As an adult I'm still chasing my dreams, as a parent I'm chasing them in the spare moments, on a budget. I was designing a crab while watching this, but also, if Mr. Krabs wanted to stream, he would be proud that you wouldn't be spending all his money. 🦀💰💸
There are also some ultra-thin lights that come with a remote as well (the cheaper one linked doesn't come with a remote and cannot be controlled via smart plug according to a review).
Oh the go pro idea is great! I’ve got a knock off one and I’m curious on how well it would handle it
I'm really liking how the Maono mics sound. They're fairly cheap and still sound and look great. Plus almost all of them have usb and xlr connections.
I got the Maono USB condensed a couple years ago, I love it!
tbh im excited for this series
Great video! First setup was hands down my favorite.
One downside though, EpocCam isn't available for android. Also, I wouldn't say that using the camera on a 1000$ phone is "only 8 dollars". Sure, if you have it, but most don't.
I can't believe that that exposure on the C920 was adjusted though. And you've spent your fair share of time adjusting the settings on that camera so was that just the "this is what most would probably do" kind of scenario?
i use a marantz 2000usb mic and a logitech c930e camera.. has served me well for a few years now.
Thank you for the GoPro HERO4 suggestion!
Anticipating part 2
Perfect timing by Harris i just got the fifine am8 and was wondering if he's going to review it as it is probably the best cheap dynamic microphone u can get rn
My first mic was a usb neewer, wasn't too bad. Did some osb audio filtering, fixed it right up.
I have an A5100 going into a Camlink 4K, but my mic is a Wave:3 and my lighting is quite simple (one LED panel close up, one IKEA lamp diffused by an off-white wall) - very happy with the camera (I bought it over a year ago based on one of your other videos) but I'm starting to record stuff away from my PC and that means I'm now looking at shotgun mics (tempted by a Røde mic) or maybe a lav mic and better lighting. It's embarrassing in some ways, because I studied lighting and sound tech at college and those are where I skimped; maybe it's just that I know how to get more from less, while cameras are not my forte.
My Sony A5100 is easily may favourite part of my setup, no question. I might have survived with something cheaper, I do have vague plans to upgrade to something with 4K one day, but it's let me film some lower-light shots and scenes with low-key lighting that my old webcam and even my phone might have struggled with. Plus, real lenses mean real depth of field and real depth of field means bokeh...
In setup 2, to solve the blowing out issue. You can just use some clips and baking paper
This is fantastic advice for anyone wanting to get started! Recommend the USB wireless mics, paired with cheap lights, and some effort creating an atmosphere; then a modern cell phone camera can make a high quality video. It's better to spend disposable income to upgrade over time; instead of going broke while starting out.
there you go, dude! keep going!
that mic was my first PC mic, still have it in storage, its pretty slick but it pics up all noise!!!
Try the Maono PD100 or DM30 Series as well! They're equal and sometimes better in regard to budget mics!!
I use a pair of ring lights and combined they cost me less than $15. They're off brand lights and I got them at a store called Ollie's Bargain Outlet. They do the job for what I need. My camera is a Logitech C270 (which I need to upgrade, but it works, so that's what's important; $35 at Target) and my microphone is an Elgato Wave 1. The Wave 1 is the most expensive thing I use (besides my computer and monitors, of course).
I started with a Vivitar webcam, so the C270 was an upgrade. If you're looking for a camera that will show your face, a $12 Vivitar will do the job. It won't do it well, but it'll put your mug on the screen. I can't afford a GoPro or anything fancy like that (I just don't make enough (or any) money from streaming to justify spending that amount of money on it).
Great video, Harris. Keep up the good work.
As usual, I appreciate the help
Video released 9 minutes ago and it appeared on my home page. UA-cam knows I'm a fan. While I enjoy these videos, feels like it's missing the mark for me, I would love to see more new budget gear like the knockoff camlink with side by side with the original, and more about planning and logistics on setting up a streaming space. There is so much you have to get right from longer cables to power extension leads to connectors, clamps, light fittings, battery chargers, usb extension cables - I literally have boxes of cables and connectors from failed experiments and I bet every streamer does too.
Still enjoyed the video. Amazing the contrast between the pro establishment shot camera and the cheap cameras. 🙂
Ugh... Cables... Yeah, I had to buy a female-to-female HDMI adapter recently when I tried something new because the short HDMI to Mini-HDMI (or was it micro?) cable which had been fine before was now too short. Streaming quickly teaches you to buy longer cables than you think you will need. That and USB power plugs (I have two of the three-port IKEA ones), because you will easily run out of USB ports and half of them are only being used for power.
My C922 was game changing for me compared to the C920! But a video of what to look for when trying to find used gear and tech on marketplace and ebay would be super interesting!
Honestly man, I don't even stream, I just love watching your videos 🤘🏻🔥
I would love to see you review the Fifine XLR interface
I have a question about the process of getting monetized.
Do I have to reach my payment threshold before doing step 2, verify identity?
And if yes will they send me a pin once the threshold is met? Thanks.
My C920 is still kicking and looks a lot better than that but I don’t have the best lighting setup. I’m using just two room lamps with smart bulbs but when I adjust the brightness on each of them to make one side lighter than the other I can get some reasonable lighting I don’t think it looks too bad.
I think about upgrading my lights and cameras everyday though to make the lighting better. I like where it’s at now but I’d like more dramatic lighting on my face.
Let's get the next 2 parts!
hey what the hell, long time sub and just watched the elgato prompter video to find youtube hasn't been putting you in my homepage since this video? I was a 'watch every video' viewer for this channel so its super weird that they just stopped getting pushed to me, anyway going to binge through now
i bought a used gopro hero 4 and used it for 2 years. it was a great camera for an old device. love the pov you can change. until one day, it just wont turn on again. there's alot suggestion online on how to hack it which will be needed some more other tools which in my case I have to buy. since i dont really know what's the problem was, i cant really bother to try it fix it.
I do have a different mic that i been enjoying a lot. the mic is about $45 bucks but is K66 with a boom arm which i got to say helps out a lot! Mind you do a review of the mic i just meantioned @Senpai ? It is low budget USB mic but is awesome to me and i love it a lot.
Try out Zealsound mics, you should talk more about sounds in these budget videos.
Instead a small LED panel I will recommend a cheap but big ring light, when you put the camera inside the light is more diffuse. Also, if you have a white wall just focus the lamp to the wall and use the bounce light, that is the most cheap softbox you can get XD
You mentioned the Fifine mics, which I have been considering. Can you do a review with the Fifine SC3 mixer? From what I've seen, for the price, it's pretty great. Not awesome build quality, but good features and usable.
Hello. I rly learn a lot watching your videos. What do you think of a setup that has a elgato wave:3 and a logitech brio?
Always been a fan of GoPro/action cam to stream. Wonder how he feels about the Hero 4 -vs- PowerConf C200. Hero 4s are older and might be harder to get. Added, many are asking same/more than the PowerConf C200. So I'm super curious. ⚠. Also, with the new iPhone supposedly dropping, look for a new wave of used iPhones hitting Craigslist et al. I've also looked around for older iPhone 8s that had a clear camera solely as a streaming rig. Scratches on the body bother me less.
I got a c920e, but sure if the "e" means anything, felt it was OK for streaming as a face cam. My biggest gripe is for it to even approach 30fps you have to turn the exposure down and drown yourself with light. I'm honestly shocked your image was blown out without turning everything to a smeary mess whenever you move.
dude that sharp cut to XQC made me spit take my protein smoothie 🤣🤣🤣🤣
that was so outta pocket and accurate
Instead of additional lights to act as a fill get a white sheet held up either in a stand or even on the wall. Spillover from your key will bounce off the sheet to fill out your lighting.
Before my 2nd light died, I just pointed it at the ceiling for a better cover, but I also use a green screen so the dynamic facial lighting had to go in favor of a cleaner screen >.
Hey Harris!!! Quick question, setup #2. Were you using Logi Capture with the c920? To my eye it looks like you weren’t, am I wrong ? If you use Logi Capture with the c920, it really bumps the camera quality waaaay higher than using raw signal through OBS.
for europe check the Thomann stuff it's actually great
Can you suggest some "inexpensive" cell phones (or older phones one might have laying around) which provide good streaming quality?
Do you have a link to your wood desk you have in your video? I can’t find anything online except for I seen on in Etsy.
It would be awesome to hear your take on a microphone I use, the Audio-Technica AT2005 it has USB and XLR with a headphone jack. also been looking at the Fifine SC3 as an entry to the XLR side of things.
Could also go the cheap Canon DSLR route and EOS web utility. Second hand Canon Rebel T3 / 1100D + dummy battery.
I use an Aukey 1080p webcam I bought for $18, a Zoom ZDM-1 I got on sale for $39, a Behringer Q1202 mixer I bought 6 years ago for radio work I'd had lying around, and all of that does amazing work for me just having fun streaming Fortnite with the homies every once in awhile.
If you know what you're doing in OBS/Streamlabs, you can make damn near anything work for low budget stream that will still be more than watchable/listenable.
Senpai, what headphones do you like to wear when your gaming for longer periods of time?
When does the other two vídeos of mid and pro set ups comming?
I know you said you can’t recommend the C920, but what are thoughts on the C920 Pro? Cause my setup is currently the C920 Pro as well as an AudioTechnica 2020 microphone. Seems decent to me, but I’m no professional at this.
Only issue I have with using my hero 4 is the heat. I was using it during a straight 5hr class and it got too hot to the point I had to point a fan at it to cool down.
Still reliable though. Been using it since the start of online classes. Just the heat that worries me.
I'm trying to figure out a budget around the things I have already. I have a Nvidia Rtx 4070, peripherals, storage.I currently use Nitro AN515-53 with 8tb external hdd extra ram, & hdmi to second screen, with logitech gaming peripherals. (I won those and gpu) I have a elgato mic as well. Any tips on specifics for the pc? :)
I like the firing 100$ dynamic mic
Instead of the c920 you should really review and suggest the Logitech 1080 pro stream. Amazing Webcam and super budget friendly! I use it in all my streams and youtube videos.
hey Harris, can you please talk about mic arms? it's one piece of equipment that everyone uses, but almost never gets mentioned in these types of videos.
I appreciate what you showed but with a little extra work you can make each them work for your setup or your pocket book. Okay that Logitech C920 probably isn't the issue with the setup #2 them lights could be fixed with parchment paper and a clothes pin or even filters in OBS. Also, DIY lights can give the same effect with smaller price point. I have a C922 and it still looks good honestly after all this time with DIY lights made with parts from Walmart. I know I will have to upgrade but for what I do it definitely does the job.
Also for my original videos on my page I shot everything on a Samsung Note 8 with iPhone headphones and edited my videos on the same phone using KineMaster Pro. I say this to show that it just depends on how much you want it too. You'll figure it out and find a way!
Try the fifine sc3 mixer for 50 bucks. It can handle the rode podmic rlly well (maybe not shure sm7b level but alot of gain for 50 bucks). An xm8500 + sc3 mixer is like god tier budget mic peformance
what about the logitech c920/c9220 pro as a budget webcam for new streamers?
harris what can we do for the hero pro not to overheat and shut down i have a gopro hero 5 black
That UA-cam shelf!
Are there any apps you would recommend for use with an android?
Yo would u be down to test the blue perrot as a headset for beginners it's 100 for their entry level headset and it being a full headset Bluetooth with a massive battery life and impressive range so if u have to walk off stream u can still talk to stream as u are out of the room and hear ur text to voice notifications plus I think for IRL streams it's active noise cancelling and everything make it a better option than a lav for mobile streaming especially for price but I don't have a massive collection I can side by side with
The epoc app would be great if your iPhone camera didn't randomly disconnect after 20 minutes. If there's a fix for that I'd like to know.
Finfine AmpliGame SC3 is a $50 ($43 at time of comment) Audio Interface. I have it working with a Shure MV7 (mic), HyperX Cloud 2 (headset), Vizio V21-H8R (Soundbar). No issues, everything sounds great, works with 2 PCs, only 50 bucks.
bm800+teyun q12 interface and eken h9r
Anker C200 is cheaper ($60 max but on sale all the time) and in my opinion better than the logitech C920. Fifine and Maono have the budget mic market in a choke hold currently. I've worked with both companies and they're very nice as well. The PD200X is currently my favorite out of all that I've tested so far. I can't wait for the next part, I love the vids g. For interfaces both Fifine and Maono have some budget options i'd look into the Fifine SC3 (my fiance has one its solid) and the Maono AMC2 NEO. I personally use my music interfaces (evo4 which has a great smart gain feature for newer xlr/gain users) and (focusrite solo 3rd gen which is currently around $100) since the solo 4th gen just dropped. I hope this feedback helps 😄.
I didn’t love any of the camera options here. Obviously the phone looked awesome, but the inconvenience factor is huge. I’m looking forward to the midrange video now!
how much was the mic stand?
yea i bought fifine a4 instead of the siren mini and hyperx solocast
And my issues with using a GoPro is that the thing would randomly turn off or disconnect like once a stream. Maybe it was a hero 7 issue idk.
How about a mobile stream setup with an iPhone or maybe more than one iPhone?
what about older high end microüphones that are now dirt cheap used liek the AT 2035 Microphone?
🔥🔥🔥
I feel like c920 got a bad treatment you can make it look way better with a bit of tweaking
is there an alternative for epoccam for android?
I was expecting to see the Razer Kiyo
I appreciate these kinds of videos, but the only issue I have is that whenever the phone option is presented, it's usually for an iPhone. It'd be nice to see an Android equivalent, for those who have a spare older phone or who want to use their current phone.
I really like the quality coming out of DroidCam OBS on a Galaxy S22. Looks pretty much the same as he's shown with the iPhone, so I guess as long as your phone camera is decent you should be good to go.
I have tried a few tech-heavy solutions in the past, but Camo (free, but beta) worked well for me when I looked at it recently and DroidCam seems to be well-liked.
Here me out, the xbox one kinect is 3 devices in one.
Its a mic and a camera, with the right obs plug-in its a green screen too.
$20 usb adapter for something you might have laying around and your setup is about done.
Also if you already are using an rtx gpu you can use the ai sound tech with it for super clean audio.
Is the Kinect's camera any good by modern standards?
@@Merciful_Angel xbox360... then no. But Xbox one is 1080p and the automatic night vision camera would be good for a horror game stream
If it passes the "little crumb on the beard" test, then its a quality camera 😂
I would definitely dish out the $7 bucks for the Seiren Mini, not that the Fifine is bad but the Mini is so underrated in this industry.
Logitech c930 is a good wide angle that is the same price currently as the c920 and cheaper than the c922 with better quality differences👀
Garnacho was onside
The C920 aged like a fine cheese! 😅
Using a window as your sole source of lighting really needs to come off these lists. "You can stream but only during the day, when you're not at work, to people also not at work in the middle of the day"
Depends on your audience and work situation; 10am in Japan or Western Australia is 6pm PST, 10am GMT (UK, Portugal, etc.) is 6pm Australia. If you work nights or shifts, you can easily be home and awake at 10am. That said, windows are really dependent on weather and which direction they face too.
