After a lifetime of living abroad because of my parents jobs I decided to come back & settle down in India. I like the thought that I'll be contributing a very small part in re-building 21st century India. Anyone who knows our history knows we have gone through constant societal restructuring every few generations. And now is the post-western/post-capitalism restructuring. Thats why we get to see so many remnants & different phases of the past just sitting and collecting dust. Plus there's a lot more room for economic growth when you're a developing country; lots of opportunities for jobs, new architecture & just in general new development all around. Also I don't know why but I like the chaotic-laxness, the sweet to spicy, the old & new etc etc. It's diversity that's been bred through ages of being on this land.
His observertion of foreign workers giving up MRT and public bus seat to those who need it is absolutley true, not many Sporean do it. This is also my observersation.
I met Andy when we were both in the Air Force. Lost touch with him after. Always wondered what happened to him and was surprised to come across this video. Thanks for sharing!
He came to India for work in 2006 and i went to Singapore for work in 2006 I lived for 15 years there and came back to India. I think we both took great decisions.
What a gem , this Singaporean, he actually has it right about life, just relax man…. love it. This is proof, that India is the spiritual hub of the Universe.
I understand Andy's predicament as a working adult with a diploma holder in Singapore as I am in the same shoes too. But I stuck to the quest of acquiring better academic qualifications, transiting from manufacturing to IT back in the early 90s. I spent 8 years to study part-time while working full-time for my diploma, degree and masters. Eventually I did managed to transit into IT and work as a senior IT engineer. But my journey didn't end there, I managed to qualify for skilled migration to Australia so I took the plunge to move. That was back in 2006, since then I spent another 7.7 years to study part-time for my postgrad and PhD in AI while working full-time as an IT engineer and graduated at age 55. I am confident to say that the difficulty that I face in Singapore, motivated me to move and seek better avenue to improve myself given the lack of education opportunity that is available to me back in SG. Reflecting back on my past, I always think that I can be of something better, and I took the arduous path to actualize it despite facing a multitude of obstacles.
He got what real india is about, especially south india. Life equals death. That is a quote which summarized what India is about. Spirituality and belongingness ❤ Kudos to you Andy🙏

10:07. Sundar Pichai is from Chennai but graduated from IIT Kharagpur, just as I did 15 years before him. Educational loans are available at low interest in India. It used to be 4% back then in the '70s. The telephones were not available easily or cars not affordable back in '70s unlike today. Education in prestigious government premium schools are subsidized heavily.
I too got education loan from Indian Bank for 2009 to 2013 window. But the interest rates are too high.. I got loan at 10.5 then it got increased to 12.5% when I closed. And then I got personal loan from HDFC for 10%. I feel education loan should attract lesser interest rates compared to other.
@@jaideepts4911 well, I took out the loan in 1974-79 time frame. The inflation back then was not what it is today and hence the interest rates were also lower. Demand for those loans were also lower. In the entire country we only had 135 engineering colleges including the IITs . I couldn't get a loan to study abroad back then, which is all too common now. The foreign exchange reserve was anemic and hence paying for GRE and TOEFL involved lot of redtape.
Very good interview. Andy is so down to earth, and clear even headed. Hope our authorities listen to this interview and make the necessary changes to improve our tourism competitiveness and also general business competitiveness.
This man is absolutely correct about few things, I am from Bangalore and when I went to Singapore I could not sleep well, it is hot and humid, all time AC drying u up, No sleep no good digestion and no seasons. It was hard for me and I could stay only 2 years after which I ran back to India.
Yes, indians dont realise the good things about india. Bengaluru has good weather ..but city is not well planned or maintained. Imagine if singapore had Bengaluru weather and karnataka land..it would be #1 place. Singapore has utilised its resources..extremely ..well 😮
At 10:00, small correction: Sundar Pichai graduated from Vana Vani Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai, India, in the 12th grade. He then attended the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur to study metallurgical engineering
He has, in very simple terms, explained what real development is and what is needed for India to become a vishwaguru. Human development has to be prioritised, making sure that people have education and the skills to work, not just in south but also in northern India.
Wonderful Wonderful video. As an Indian living in Singapore for 15 years this was thoroughly enjoyable. Am sure lots of people will comment and defend some of the things he has shared about India, but he is quite measured and clear.
Indian food scene has changed a lot in Singapore, in 1990s Indian food in Singapore meant Roti Canai, Ayam Kurma and Ayam Mutarbak. Nowadays in Singapore there are fine dining Indian restaurants serving Warqi Paratha, Kakori Kabab, Basket Chaat, Aaloo Chaat etc.
Roti Canai, Ayam Kurma and Ayam Murtabak are not Indian but Malay. You cannot find them anywhere in India. Murtabak, for example, may have originally come from Yemen (also called ‘Muttabaq’).
Then why not call it paratha (or parotta as in Kerala)? Also, paratha and roti are 2 different things. You cannot mix up the two. It’s like calling Banmian Mee siam. They are both noodle dishes but different.
@@abhikdas3652 Wrong. Roti Canai is a Malaysian food and was introduced by Malaysian Indian Muslim community aka mamak. In Singapore it’s called Parata
As a northeast Indian completing my schooling and graduation in Kerala kochi and Chennai TN, I i totally agree with his words. I have stayed in north India for some years, the main difference is the way how to get along with the locals. South Indian is easy to blend into social terms and its hard in north india. Superior and inferior thinking are more into North Indian. Nevertheless we are Indian Jay hind.

India is basically at a stage at China in the 90s or the Korea in the 70s were. I hope we dont lose down our culture in this 'westernization' process. For contrast, speaking in English is considered to be much more matured and in-class than speaking in Hindi..
India's economy 2023 is at the stage which China had in 2007, not 1990s. China's economy in 2007 was 3.55 trillion and India's economy in 2023 is 3.74 trillion.
@@matgranger5061 2007s 3.5 trillion is not the same in 2023... China's share in gdp in year 2000 is the share we have in year 2023. And not to mention china grew tremendously fast after that. You should read how China in 1990s is what India today. Not in service sector, but cities, pollution and people.. Check our the recent Reuters article on this.

India is something else . The more you travel the world the more you understand how different India is from the rest of the world and I am prouder each day for being privileged to be part of a civilization that is so great and respects humanity more than any other culture .
What he said about South India and North India is very correct . North Indians and Pakistanis are similar . However , South India before British was different countries. South India had trade with Malaysia, Indonesia , Chinese and Arabs before Portuguese and British reach the shore .
Being an Indian Expat, I was looking for something like this for a long time , to understand how do they view such a country with broad bandwidth or say 2 or multiple extremes of economy , culture and positive/negative transformations. He is tremendously intellectual on what he shared. One thing I personally learnt the most in Singapore, may be its predominantly only in my company cause its a robotic company tranformed from startup , here People dont whine / badmouth behind , no pointing fingers without clarity and solution seeking without excuses with resources. That aside Pretty much recent generation (whoever got the job they wanted) are so workoholic and towards salary now unlike 2009 he was talking about, the software developers in India are bit more grinded / stressed , wheras in this island Country , from shop keepers to fintech Employees, its racy day always.

I like this interview. Especially towards the end. Happiness don’t need a lot of money. That’s very true. Adjusting one expectation and managing that I guess is what success means
He does not place wealth before relationships. Amazing chap. I wonder what his early life experiences were. He did not run after material success and man's approval. He has the right perspective about life and meaning. Good on him!
India has a lot of diversity I will tell you two disco songs from India: 1) Rathipushpam from film Bheeshma Parvam from Kerala in 2021 2) Di Ruk Te by Sangtei Khuptong from Mizoram in 2023. Americans say they speak English, Thai speak Thai but as Indians they speak Hindi, English and either one or 2 state languages. India has 22 official languages. These days creativity in India has also improved There is Cadbury India and they created an ad 5 stars everywhere with 55 million views. Then there is a startup called Whole Truth Foods and they don't have Soy Lecitin, Emulsifiers and Invert Sugar Syrup in their products, they created an ad called Eat Protein not Chemicals which has 6.5 million views. Both these ads are really amazing. You can find Banana plantations in Kerala and Apple Orchards in Kashmir. India is like USSR or Yugoslavia in diversity.

I think he expressed that india is different and how culture works around in India but I think one of the things he got wrong was that in India , you can get education loan.
Great Amisha. I will also be joining you in India :). Looking forward to being in my motherland.
Great 😇🔥
@HinduPAGANcowpissdrinkerRAKESHhe's talking about history not politics 💀
I love not so far in Dubai. I also want to contribute to Bharat’s revival.
This is the best interview so far on your channel. This man deserves an award for the most humble Singaporean I have seen to date. God Bless you ...
Smartest Singaporean with great wisdom. What a life he has had and learned from his travels. Very inspirational.
Andy dont have a degree but he has wisdom, Happiness /= Money, and Life = Death. Many still don't realise
I think he have neither, being a cuck to ceca doesn't give him any wisdom
His observertion of foreign workers giving up MRT and public bus seat to those who need it is absolutley true, not many Sporean do it. This is also my observersation.
Andy by living in India for many years giving a truthful account of India .
I express my deepest thanks for his honesty .
I met Andy when we were both in the Air Force. Lost touch with him after. Always wondered what happened to him and was surprised to come across this video. Thanks for sharing!
It was a great interview. I love his extremely mindful way of living. His words encapsulate all the Buddhist philosophy books I've read.
He came to India for work in 2006 and i went to Singapore for work in 2006 I lived for 15 years there and came back to India. I think we both took great decisions.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the questions that he was asked

His thoughts and directions in his life is very clear and humble. He is already getting enlighted about the meaning of life❤
He got what real india is about, especially south india. Life equals death. That is a quote which summarized what India is about. Spirituality and belongingness ❤ Kudos to you Andy🙏
Such a smart yet humble guy.. his open mindedness and curiosity can and have taken him further than the degree would have
The interview sure took place in Singapore, I never saw such clean and designed place in India.
Wow, this was a reminder for me to be more human, look at life differently and much slowly, be open minded and adapt to changes. Need more people like you
Even Indians living in same state ,will find something new whenever we visit another place , every 100 Kms there are change in food ,tradition, language dialect etc
Max you have a knack for finding wise people to talk to. I love the people you talk to and the way you draw them out.
The Bollywood Expat was awesome too!
🙏
yes Jeff was great
Thank you for sharing your experience about SOUTH INDIA

Very positive guy, who made good without academic credentials. Respect.
What a great interview and also that Andy is so selfless to sharing his experiences and philosophy. He may not have known but i believe many viewers here are “touched” by some good pointers he has had made. Thank you Max for posting this.
I really enjoyed this interview, Andy is an amazing person with an open mind and love his outlook in life
Singapore has utilised its resources..extremely ..well 😮
True AC does dry one up.
u survived 2 years though!
At 10:00, small correction: Sundar Pichai graduated from Vana Vani Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai, India, in the 12th grade. He then attended the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur to study metallurgical engineering
This will be the highest viewed video for max.. all Indians truly appreciate this. Thankyou for this video. Will definitely visit his restaurant
What an honest and heartfelt review of India!❤
Andys POV on our existence and life in general in the last 5 mins of this video is THE BEST!!
Wro
Wrong. Roti canai is known as pratta and a staple breakfast in Kerala.
Andy is such a genuine guy, who wouldn’t want to be his friend, good vibes .
I wish you all the best Andy - continued success and happiness.
This kind of insight from a foreigner is very very rare. He has gotten it right!!!
He sounds like a wise sage.He has a old kind soul and the journey just enhanced his outlook in life.Makes me appreciate me😊
As a northeast Indian completing my schooling and graduation in Kerala kochi and Chennai TN, I i totally agree with his words. I have stayed in north India for some years, the main difference is the way how to get along with the locals. South Indian is easy to blend into social terms and its hard in north india. Superior and inferior thinking are more into North Indian.

Totally agree to his notion about meaning in life! I have come to live the moment every day after losing three young friends during 3-year this pandemic..learn to be grateful every day when we wake up!:)
What a gentleman he is, I could listen to him the whole day, so kind and compassionate!
REALLY LOVED THIS VIDEO, the attitude of this guy towards life and what I was searching for was answered by him actually.THANK YOU. ALSO, LOVED THE VIEW OF SINGAPORE IN THIS VIDEO.❤❤❤
SUPER, NICE TO HEAR POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT INDIA FROM A FORIGENER, WHO HAS SPENT QUITE SOME TIME IN INDIA.
EVERY COUNTRY HAS ITS OWN POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES. WE ALL SHOULD GRASP THE POSITIVES ALONE LIKE THE SINGAPOREAN....... HATS OFF TO HIM
I'm learning a lot from Andy who really has got a lot to share about the meaning of life, the journey and, success etc. He's so inspiring because he managed to breakdown those minute details about success which I myself could not have thought out.
There's a very positive vibes around this person. He got the perspective on life spot on. He got facts about India pretty accurate
Another awesome video Max! I salute n respect Andy for his candid views n see through the complexity of life. End of day, we need to find a balance n be happy in life. Yes, nobody escapes death ... the end game.
What a sensible, humble person, loved listening to his pearls of wisdom, very good understanding of the situations he was in, most impressed by his ultra quick responses, even for deeply philosophical questions!
@@vedants.vispute77 China was very polluted in 2010s. A smog always covered the sky in Shanghai and Beijing.
China had started developing bullet trains in 2007 and India also developing bullet trains now.
Also, 1990s China did not had 900 million people connected to the internet.
But, 2023 India has almost 900 million people on the internet.
1990s China did not had 900 km of metro system but 2023 India has 900 km of metro system.
I'd argue the per capita numbers are closer to early 2000's China@@vedants.vispute77
@@matgranger5061 Do you even realise how much china exported in 2007-2010? in 2007, China's share of global exports were above 10%, and India is at 2% in 2023. And obviosly our infrastructure is comparable to China well before 2000.. Look I am not here debating anymore coz Reuters is a better opinion website than our comment section. And Accounting on how many internet users there were in 90s and using it to compare among nations on nations is the funniest thing ever..
The north south point he mentioned is absolutely on point and i agree so strongly with that.
I like this guy's attitude to life. Unpretentious, honest, and direct. When he said life = death I just went blank. Amazing video.
not many talking about death. kudos to our brother Andy
India is something else . The more you travel the world the more you understand how different India is from the rest of the world and I am prouder each day for being privileged to be part of a civilization that is so great and respects humanity more than any other culture .
This guy is a gem 💎. Can learn life and happiness from this guy. Singapore protect him at any cost.
If u will have come to Northeast you will have experience somehow the same hospitality as South India
As a part of Northeast I can say here in Northeast as well people are so kind and helping to each other
Is because of Christian missionaries

We indians have a different level of respect for elders... Our food is amazing... Already missing indian food and so many things here... Although singapore is cleaner and more organised but its so expensive cost if living is very high

Indian food is easily available in SG, just exploring Little India in SG, but they are mostly Tamil food.
This became more of a philosophical interview and he made a lot of sense. Really enjoyed the video.
Andy has great insights into Bharat or India even if he is just 60% accurate on his observations. But I love his infectious enthusiasm for our Bharat. Thank you Andy.
So lucky to be born as a south Indian Andy is so honest god bless him health and long life
It is also land of spirituality, peace. And last but not the least it has unity in diversity. 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
I am 19 and I as Indian went to every State of India but still every city to city and village to village are different region, wonderful cultures and Architecture you will get to see, Even in Languages and food also.
You have to spent many years to explore whole India.
The best interviewee till now. Sane, sensible, secure.
Even many Indians don't know much about India, its a learning process to understand this civilization and to imbibe it's culture. A project that cannot be fulfilled in a life time for sure.
So much of sense came from this interview... thank you.❤
I like this interview. Especially towards the end. Happiness don’t need a lot of money. That’s very true. Adjusting one expectation and managing that I guess is what success means
I like the way the interviews are conducted where the guest speaks and finishes before being asked another question :) great channel ...
What a wise man! Indeed, Covid taught us a lot of meaning in life.
He does not place wealth before relationships. Amazing chap. I wonder what his early life experiences were. He did not run after material success and man's approval. He has the right perspective about life and meaning. Good on him!
India has a lot of diversity I will tell you two disco songs from India:
1) Rathipushpam from film Bheeshma Parvam from Kerala in 2021
2) Di Ruk Te by Sangtei Khuptong from Mizoram in 2023.
Americans say they speak English, Thai speak Thai but as Indians they speak Hindi, English and either one or 2 state languages. India has 22 official languages.
These days creativity in India has also improved
There is Cadbury India and they created an ad 5 stars everywhere with 55 million views.
But lacks infrastructure, whats the point of diversity when you don't have an organized system.
I am indian from south ( Karnataka ) i can speak Tulu ( mother tongue ) , kannada, konkani , beary , hindi & English. 😊
He is really a nice and sorted man about life. Very inspirational.👏👏👏🙏
Having stayed in Singapore more the 4 years and batam around 2013 .. it still amazed me there was so much cost difference .. in everything ….. but yes Singapore should opt for free tourist visa , of course it has to be regulated with heavy penalty etc … It will give tough completion for other south east Asia tour capital
I honestly love india very much, i lived in mumbai for 5 years, it shaped and toughed me up to what i am today.
One of the best episodes, so organic...so real and an honest interview. Thank you, Max and Andy.
Wow really enjoyed this interview! Love Andy’s perspective on life and his experiences. Do more of this!
That overcrowded train shot seems like from 1940s during partion of India when people were fleeing for their life from one place to the other.
He is really accurate in his description. Don't have any expectations when visiting India and have an open mind .
i feel this guy knows more about india than people living in india.
He has naturally absorbed the philosophy..its in every being in India. He is eastern..its natural for him. We are easians after all. Its easy for Indians to understand Japanese and Chinese then germans and French.. we have same values. Mindsets..spiritual grooming
He is super positive and has clear vision so that’s why he got successful
I think he expressed that india is different and how culture works around in India but I think one of the things he got wrong was that in India , you can get education loan. It’s not a necessity as families try to work around their own finances to get education to children but if the circumstances arise, there are banks that provide education loan- SBI is the biggest education loan provider in India .
This guy is a pure gem.
Super liked the video and Andy’s thought process towards India and life.

18:26 Discussion on the impact of the virus on elderly people
He's speaking the truth. He spoke about the difference between North and South India and about different states that means he understood India very well.
India has 28 states and 8 union territories a home for 1.5b people. Each state has its own language and culture, cuisines, attires. Even us indians find it difficult to adjust with vast diversity. Still it's fun coz values that integrates and cemented our minds are same. Eg respect to elders and caring kids, spiritual beliefs.
So if you are foreigner and you find it difficult to communicate and find right cuisine trust me you are not alone !!
this is one of the best observation of india by a foreigner. How micro information he carried and described so well. Thanks youtuber and singaporean friend .
