- Illegal oil refining in Nigeria is at an all-time high and the Federal Government says about $3.27 billion worth of oil has been lost to oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the past months. This is one of the many critical issues rocking the nation, as the issue of insecurity is also a major concern in the country at a time when the country is gearing up for its general elections. Niger Delta Activist, Asari Dokubo speaks on the Arise Interview.

Kudos Asari, you nailed it here but i beg to disagree with you when it comes to Presidential candidates. Lagos is overrated abeg and it's better imagined than experienced. Have spent 10yrs there and Meeeeh its really crappy and unorganized with people spending upto 6hrs a day in traffic, Apapa axis is the worst. Obi is the most Credible and will do a better job in checkmating these illegalities in govt and help to diversify the economy amongst others if given the opportunity.

I've had a personal chat with him. He explained how the name 'Asari fuel' came to be. Asari is the only one who didnt accept Federal Amnesty because of his belief.

Asari needs a job. Please give him back his job of protecting oil pipelines so he will be held responsible if bunkering continues. He had the job before and oil bunkering was getting out of hand; that was why he was replaced with foreign companies. Now he is making noise. He is expecting that much from a state with the lowest allocation amongst her peers in the South East? Anambra was not amongst the oil producing states and ranked amongst those with the lowest allocations. The governor did well in infrastructure. Had the best road network in the South East.
In education, we all know he took Anambra from 24th-26th to 1st. Check the Unity Schools cut-off mark and JAMB results to confirm this claim.
In health, he built health centres and they got accredited. One of the health centres now conducts heart surgeries.
In bringing investments into the state, he still did well in getting some more and this increased the number of jobs created and associated business opportunities. One of the investments happens to be SABMILLER, the second largest brewery in the world. We all know that he also invested over $500m of Anambra state's funds of which as you sit down to take your bottle of Hero, Budweiser or co after a day's rest, Anambra state gets a certain percentage as return on investment. That's foresight staring at us all. Same foresight made Anambra not to be in recession and was actually employing and doing good even when other states went bankrupt and was going cap in hand to the federal government for rescue. This is even an extended legacy as Peter Obi employed more civil servants when in office. I recall a friend of mine that had stayed at home 6years post-NYSC without any corporate job experience got his break under Peter Obi and the accountant is now gainfully employed.
With respect to investing in MSMEs, he did invest over $50m and we all know that Anambra now has the highest number of billionaires nationwide.
When you talk of good governance, the indicators and the respective actuals to mark the expectations against, just give it to Peter Obi. He's got his 'T's crossed and his 'I's dotted.

The right logic would have been: The South East ought now to benefit from the rotation, and Peter Obi is the best available man of pedigree. How shallow minded and empty our minds and reasoning is when it comes to analysing issues of national importance. Crude oil thefts and bunkering activities is a collosal damage to our economy and environment and it is an obvious and indisputable fact. As Asari lamented the securities are not doing their work but rather are conniving with the bunkers .who settles them .I am talking from personal experience. I was once lured to engage in such business by a friend and when I visited the area do the dirty biz. I nearly wept and couldn't continue because I couldn't understand how one can engage in such a n economic sabotage and still not be worried.

If the govt cannot formalize and institutionalize the security architecture in the oil producing areas, they should try an informal approach- engage the boys who are involved in these acts of sabotage to protect oil facilities in the area. It will be win-win for everyone.
As for the security agencies, they are just doing business out there. Get the BVNs of all the security men serving in the area and investigate their assets vis-a-vis their legitimate earnings and you would be shocked at the wealth they have amassed. What are the sources of such wealth? We talk like we don't know what's going on. Traditional rulers, activists like him talking, security men and govt officials are all in the game. Until there is a competent and discipline govt, nothing will change. The leaders of the Niger Delta are the worse thieves. They don't care about their own people or environment.
