A beautiful city and capital on the island of Madeira in Portugal. The Botanical Gardens of Funchal are an oasis of floral splendor with over 3000 species of plants, some of which are growing only on Madeira. In the old part of the city, you can see "Painted Doors" street. Here in 2010 an art project "The Art of Open Doors" was held. From there the tradition of painting the doors of houses began.

Please please please may I ask a question? We're hoping to move to Portugal (possibly Madeira or somewhere near Porto), but we have two cats! My husband says it will be absolutely impossible to find a rental property that allows pets, unless it's mega expensive or charge a lot on top for the pets. What is your experience if you have any or noticed anything? I'm desperately wanting to keep my cats 😭 (both have passports, vaccinations, were from EU). Thank you ❤
Great video my only complaint is that the center of the lens was a bit smudged best to clean the lens prior to shooting the video apart from that good stuff

I am not sure I have ever heard of this beautiful place before. Thank you so much for introducing it to me. I would love to travel there one day. I saw a lot of building with english names on them. Would English only speaking people feel welcome there? Or would one need to speak Portuguese. Ty.
Most madeirans speak english so you should be fine. We also have a long tradition of welcoming British tourists so I'd risk to say that all restaurants, hotels and attractions have english fluent speaking staff.

Madeirans are very far from a progressive, tolerant society and are very attached to an old, very backwards, uneducated way of living but the island has great infrastructure, absurd natural beauty and much dignity. It's diametrically opposed to mainland Portugal.
