To everyone saying Don and I are wrong about determinism, I just want you to know that we know you had no choice in saying that and we forgive you.

    • @-lloygic-3565
      @-lloygic-3565 2 роки тому +31

Sir, you had no choice but to say that you knew anything about determinism. HOWEVER, I had the choice to define how I frame my response to you. This response was predetermined by your attempt to assert determinism as a framework to explain life. I had many means of illustrating my response, I coudl use memes, I could call you gay, or I could pause and let that bubbling up of ideas process until I truly felt that I had selected the right bubbles of ideas.
As self awareness increases, so too does the understanding and resolution of the responses that are available to someone, enabling a conscious expression of self in what you had assumed to be simply an automatic response to being. A truly ignorant person will be unable to stop themselves from responding like a cur, but someone to whom the discussion revolves around a specialization of their life will perceive a wealth of responses that operates as their own personal playground of expression. The proof for this is the variation of response options available to the master that would each achieve a variety of external results from which he selects his desired outcome. You could try to assert that determinism is still at play here, but then you're arguing for the capacity to choose an optimal outcome for the self as deterministic, at which point your determinism means the exact same thing as free will.

Listen guys, Warhammer is sick because it is something that people can get behind. It is both hysterical and badass. I mean, no one wants to get stuck in something and not feel creative but man its good shit. Also, Hunter, you're not terrible. You're not losing ideas. This is just a slight slump. The Flashgitz boys went through the same deal. Especially with mama UA-cam breathing down peoples necks. I fricken loved the Yokai cartoon and the Nickocaudo toon.
I really appreciate you guys. I work part time, school full time, and I'm a parent and this is like, one of the simple things I look forward too.
    Keep up the good work.

Tom's determinist argument for the non-existence of freewill is predicated on the assumption that all actions are based on unconscious thoughts. But at this moment he actually describes free will in practice; being aware of thoughts that unwillingly come to you and deliberately deciding to do something contrary to them.

This will sound hella gay, so please flame me in the replies, but I really dig the vulnerability that Hunter's expressing in this video. It's a sign of maturity to recognize one's own limitations, but in recognizing such limitations it also enables opportunities to realize limitations that are within your scope of control and those that are external to you. Growth can now begin. Get turgid!

I know what would cheer hunter up. A new episode of The Pilgrim! Seeing the end of this episode reminds me of when I was in the navy and standing quartermaster. Any time I had to go to the head, I had to get permission from the officer of the deck to step out of control and he would always say "very well quartermaster. Use the potty." But he would enunciate the t's in potty.

i like how all it takes is some vaguely psychological jargon and a dash of fatalism for tom and dom to believe anything. hunter's almost entirely right: the difference between the mindfulness practices of new age spiritualism and analytic psychology coached in chemical determinism is that tom and don have *chosen* to prefer the analytic psychology version of what boils down to, " breathe more and think about your reactions to things sometimes."
tom is slowly being groomed into a turquoise-wearing aunt and i am so here for this arc.

Determinism is mostly about the future, basically the theory is that if you could measure every atom and everything put it in to a perfect formula you could know everything that will happen because everything that happens is determined to happen, its impossible to prove or disprove, also this theory states that when the universe began we could do this because they follow the determined path, a good argument against environmental determinism is if i give you a knife and you do nothing with it was anything really determined or changed when brought into the environment? and a good argument against spiritual determinism is ,if you are determined this way from birth than can you ever change? a true determinist will say no to both the knife shows how little the environment affects our decisions, and the question on change shows the lack of fact as it is scientifically proven that people change in multiple ways (personality wise) over time

in regards to the determinism thing.
Seems like a really dumb way to look at the world, as if its reacting to people claiming they could choose to do things that are literally impossible like turn into cloud of gas. Freewill isnt about having infinite choices, its about being able to make any choice at all.
If I can only pick between 2 cities on the planet I still have some level of freewill, and the concept of freewill is not a binary thing like anything sensible that is a generalised term for some concept its on a spectrum where you can not reasonably achieve either extreme.
In choosing your favourite cities in the real world I cannot pick between more cities than those that exist or have existed or at least ones I am aware of, and I likewise cant not pick none of them or at least one of them. This is a choice thats impossible to stop someone thinking so they if nothing else have some level freewill to make a choice within that range of options with nothing also being an option unless of course this person literally has no idea about any single thing at all at which point their effectively dead and again this type of mental state isnt even possible.
Right now I could choose to piss myself or go to toilet, if I choose one that is me making choice and if I argued "well I just had to piss myself because freewill doesn't exist" any normal sane person would correctly call me out on it. This entire idea seems extremely impractical and totally flawed, as if because I cant choose to emit the piss from my body as vapour means I dont have freewill.
Reality is finite literally nothing is infinite in reality there is border to it, there are only so many grains of sand on a beach etc. Never has the concept of Freewill been realistically thought of by society as being "you are god and can choose anything beyond any constraint imaginable."
probably the worst thing about determinism is how worthless and self deafting it is, if we assume its all true which it is and isnt, then we have no reason to take any action differently at all. There is perfectly sound reasoning within the framework of determinism to do totally illogical things, hate for someone doing something wrong isnt irrational when it serves multiple purposes like teach other broken machines not do x wrong thing or frankly a near infinite level of mind twisting you could do to make near anything logical.
This level of philosophy is totally worthless and is if anything harmful, it requires you to totally disengage with human reality in way that serves no meaningful purpose other than potentially tricking yourself into more desirable behaviours meaning it is intentionally stupid. It just subjecting yourself to a mental equivalent of tounge twister in hopes it will result in you doing something better your wanted to do anyway before hand, frankly its the sort of rational that reeks of the sort of mental gymnastics that you see con-merchants peddle.
