They did by far. They picked this one apart. I enjoy the guys that pause videos to add something relavent... and not for nonsense. I love how they said Tumi studied the game, which is a testament that they studied the game too. No-one else would know. Tumi is an OG!!!
I agree yaz ...
Where is z in South Africa?

Yeah, they did it justice. South Africa wasn't merely being pandered to here. They seem to genuinely the video and it was apparent.
Stogy T is a genius. He doesn't just rap, he educates you about political and socio-economic issues.

13:27 "I'll put your certified Hyenas in Elephant graves" - Elephant graves are really big so he's saying he'd bury a whole lot of Sway's certified hyenas. It's also a Lion King reference on how Mufasa banished all the hyenas to live in the shadows, which was an elephant grave. Mufasa being the king
That line and Lion King reference was so missed and so dope at the same time.
Ohhhhhhhh 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bra....I missed that too, nice!
I couldn't believe my eyes, because I'm south African and this is my favorite reaction channel!!!

Bruh wish u seen my reaction when I saw this..

Seeing Americans respect our OG brings a smile to my face, Stogie is hip hop purist, he is about the craft and he woke af.

"Writer's club" by ProVerb the South African OG. one of the greatest lyricists from the continent
Most definitely.

But I believe in verb

ProVerb yeah one of the best lyricist not just in Africa but all the continents.
Wow. He’s uber talented and entertaining, but the lyrics broke my heart and opened my eyes.

You ain't know the politicians and struggle heroes and their friends all wealthy whilst the majority of the country is in poverty?!
Damn, y'all replying to here expected some random lady to know the modern politics of South Africa. Like forreal tho...
I bet he wanted you to feel that way after his verse.Im glad you’re open now.

Bro. 😂
more like South Africa FOUND in Vegas! lol
@@valhasviews that's a good one🤣
“Former heroes giving birth to spoilt rotten kids” is inadvertently a jab at the kids of many of the leaders who fought for liberation in South Africa but he’s saying that by virtue of being children of such great leaders they are born into a cycle of responsibility and expectation but many of them fail to meet any of these expectations and use their surnames as a ticket to living a life that they haven’t worked for. Thus being said, they also use their surnames as an excuse to absolve themselves from the problems of modern society and live on preempted pedestals that they played no part in creating.
Ironically, he's talking about himself too.
Dope
@@MarcusDailyMedia lol. Always thought so too. But I guess he's done his part.
Mandela has a book written "A Long Walk To Freedom" - that could be a reference to that long walk which he meant that we've (South Africans) got a long way to seeing that freedom
@@bensonnyakabwa1868 In retrospect it's applicable but I doubt that was the intention of the title. For me it aptly captures the long walk he (we) had to travel for political freedom which also ties in nicely with the narrative of his 27 years incarceration. But like I said, in retrospect, it's even more apt for the ordinary black South African and the continent at large.
He endured a lot of mockery from other artists and people in the music for doing his rap the American way, I admire his vision of being global, and his persistence. he got the stripes and made way for the like of Nasty C who do it now with less to no criticism for rapping American. Stogie T is a Global Rapper, he is a Poet.
In SA hip hop history you can't say hip hop or rap without saying Stogie T he is one of the forerunners of our hip hop culture in South Africa!!!
I still think of him as Tumi. I hate it when people speak of him like he is a new rapper. This a legend. Top 5 of my all time best MCs in th world.

Elon musk was born in South Africa hence that line about him..
Lol it has nothing to do With him being born here. The only reason he mentioned him was to say the like “charged up” like his vehicles sir
@@mrsetamayple lol that line has everything to do with him being south african. he is showing the contrast of a south african solving world problems while at home they cant solve the toilet problem
@@tutotutot5193 thank you , great minds do think alike .@seta I think that line went over your head
"14:38" 38 is also a reference to temperature. When someone's temperature reads 38 degrees Celcius (100,4 degrees Fahrenheit) it's usually due to fever/the flu, hence the need for a flu shot and contrast to how others are lukewarm whereas Stogie is hot.
damn
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 S/O Nsuku
CAP, that's basketball history. a landmark game in Michael Jordan's career. he dropped 38 points on Utah Jazz while being sick with a heavy "flu shard". for the basic mind, that's GOAT shit.
He is referencing his age he was a 38 when he did this freestyle.. Hence 38 like Jordan in Utah killing them with the flu shot.
38 was his age
“Last time somebody spit this far, David Blane” David Blane is a famous magician known for best spitting fire with his mouth. His show used to be broadcasted on channel 128 back in the days
I had to google David Blaine when I heard that line 🔥🔥🔥
Namibian here. Damn, this dude was killing it! So much of South African history and stories in that song. You can really make a 3 hour discussion just about what he said. I need to find the words for this song so that I can read it through. So good!
He surely killed it man.

Real talk ryt there.
“I put your certified hyenas in elephant graves”: That’s actually a reference to Lion King. The hyenas (Scar’s cronies) would hang in the elephant graveyard. That’s the forbidden place Simba and Nala ventured until Mufasa saved them from trouble.
Excellent

Finally 😭🔥🔥🔥... South Africa!!
I am from S.A but I learnt sooo much from this reaction 🙆
I think it's crazy how I only got the "Orange juice concentrated" line 3 years later but it was deep. When he pronounces it it sounds like "aren't Jewish concentrated" like the concentration camps but you could also hear it as "orange juice concentrated" which speaks to our version of Cool-Aid but also has a triple entendre on when everything is pretty and sunny ❤️🔥 crazy
That’s hard🫵🔥
Can we talk about that ''delta'' line🔥🔥 Stogie is a genius
South Africa stand tf up.
"hyenas in elephant graves" has to be a reference to lion king , the hyenas used to live in the elephant graves , cause they were scared of mufasa, which links back to james earl jones again like the coming to america reference!!
I was praying someone gave clarity on this. No offense gents, but It flew over urls heads
Lol no u give it a strong meaning
That makes sense you r smart
But I don't think he referred to that 😂😂
Damn you smart
Damn I respect you
When Rappers appeared on Sway And they spit real bars, they are satified "Hyenas" and Sway hosted alot of Rappers.. So he basically destroyed them Lyrically;Hence, elephant grave as its a big ass grave😅😅... That's how I understood it to say the least.

You guys did not really get the .. " Who's saying(Hussein) I can't hang(chill and/or like rope hang) on camera..." ...reference to the fact that Saddam Hussein was actually hanged live on camera.
Neither did I but thanx tho
Telling Stogie T to bring bars is like telling the ocean to bring water. He's got plenty. He's a god. A scholar. A god scholar. His father was a part of the struggle like Nelsom Mandela and Co. And his criticism of the kids of struggle icons is his lived experience.
just so we are clear the dude is legendary and went by Tumi , and his band Tumi and The Volume, he really dumbed it down when he changed his name to Stogie T for the new audience, but if you wanna hear him on some Black Thought penmanship find his materials as Tumi and The Volume.
Speaking of Honey & Pain, he is also referencing his album Honey & Pain (on Spotify) - I highly recommend this album, all the songs are fire but from musicality stance I rate:
Honey & Pain ft. Mike Classic (from the album)
Rapture ft. Jay Claude (from the album)
Side Chick ft. Ayanda Jiya & Rouge (from the album)
Zakwe - Roots ft. Stogie T & Jay Claude (by a different artist but I had to throw this in the list) - My top pick here
Then from a storytelling stance:
Purgatory (from the album)
Numbers Game ft. YoungstaCPT (from the album)
Johazadousburg (from the album)
God's Eye (from the album) - My top pick here, cause of the depth
Also Stogie T has 2 albums as Stogie T, before he changed his name to Stogie T - his was commonly known as Tumi or better known with his former band Tumi & The Volume.
I thank you :)
Also, I was just going of the Honey & Pain reference, hence I mainly referenced the album, mans has amazing work as a emcee and a poet.
That was a whole lecture. Truly genius.
only God knows how many times i have watched this video... its too Lit
Bruh!!! Everytime I listen to Stogie, I end up here. Very relevant now since South Africa has been titled the most unequal nation in the world.
to be honest your my twine as far as stogie t is concerned... cos am more addicted
Love y’all both!! But Damn y’all reallyfucked up on the
“Reading Langston Hughes, el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz and them, shit //
In the pocket like the Audubon assassin” 😂
el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz is better known as Malcolm X.
So when he follows with “in the pocket like the Audobon assassin” - he’s referring to Malcolm X being killed in the Audobon Ballroom -- if y’all remember one of the Audobon assassins yelled “get y’all hand outta my pocket”
And the double entendre meaning “...in the pocket” referring to being on-beat aswell!!
Y’all messed up on that one!!! And that was one of the craziest lines in the whole thing!! I was certain y’all were going to go crazy for haha!
But beautiful work as always bros!
"I'm from that continent of long walk accomplishments" This refers to Nelson Mandela's book "Long Walk To Freedom" then he ties it in with the "Former Heroes" bar basically saying that the kids of our struggle heroes are spoilt because these former heroes made a profit from democracy. Also, these "heroes" are corrupt and feel they are above the law, and often get their kids out of sticky situations as was the case with President Zuma with his son
Mr Jay Esquire I think he was referring to all African liberation heroes and their associates. Where liberators turn into the government, line their pockets and enrich their families. The by product being those leaders kids being rich spoilt brats. It’s a deep bar. One could write a whole book around these bars
Jacob Zumas son is not spoilt rotten, he is a hard working businessman.
I think he referring to SA being spoilt that they want everything given in a platter 🙈 like how we gave in on drugs and stage and we still complain that the government is not doing the most for em🤔🤔🤔 as he said, “its a mixed messages”.. his line are open for interpretation
@@mphokoketsoclementmolokele8068 Mixed messages refers to Trevor Noah's mixed heriatge
@@silodlamini9056 Hard working business man doing what? Why did he only start being a business man when daddy became pres? And stop when dad kicked outta office?
