  • The Pareto Principle is also known as the 80:20 rule, and it holds that 80% of sales are from good customers, who represent 20% of all customers.
    Instead of treating all customers the same, it is possible to maintain 80% of sales by differentiating the top 20% of customers and aiming for high profitability.
    Pareto's principle was not only originally used as a rule of thumb for income distribution, but is now said to be applicable to quality control, inventory control, sales control, marketing, etc., and can be applied to different natural and social phenomena.
    For example, when applied to marketing, it can be used to say, "The top 20% of all products will generate 80% of sales" or "If you improve the top two items on a list of 10 quality, you will get 80% of the effect.
