- Today I ask you, why is there so much hatred for Sarasota Tim, on UA-cam?
My name is Howard and my goal is to bring UA-cam viewers interesting and factual information about the process of getting to retirement and living a successful retirement, through my channel, Otter's Retirement Corner. I have a degree in Finance, with an MBA from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, along with an extensive career in financial services, credit and risk management, within the Banking industry. I have extensively studied retirement topics such as: Social Security, Medicare, investing, economics and portfolio withdrawal strategies, to name a few. My own journey getting to retirement and now living within retirement has allowed me to gain an important perspective on those topics. Note: I am not a financial planner, a tax accountant or an investment advisor and none of the material covered in my videos is intended as personal advice. My videos are for entertainment purposes.

When Tim put out his "retire at 62 and work a side job forever because we are all dying at 73" message, I made what I thought was a rather benign comment disagreeing with his calculations and analysis. He banned me for it. Also, It bothers me immensely that someone of his low character would preach to people about how they should live their lives. In my day job, I spend a lot of time doing analysis, but I also have a weird sense of humor and enjoy making videos as an outlet for my creative side.

he's a wolf in sheep's clothing whose channel isn't about "minimalism" or trying to survive on SS + side hustle. It's about scratching whatever itch he has at the moment and seeking targets to take advantage of.

Hi Howard. No, I didn’t follow Tim’s advice. I retired LONG before he started his UA-cam channel. I came across his channel because I was looking for others who are living on just social security and trying to make ends meet. I’m very frank and honest on my channel that unless you have all your ducks in a row, taking SS at 62 is a really bad idea, and I regret it. Then I see Tim pushing the idea while fear mongering about how little time people have left. It also came to light that he lies when telling people that he was debt free when he retired.
I started my channel as a counter-balance to Tim’s. I tell people that I regret taking SS at 62. I was in no financial position to do that. However, what’s done is done. And now I try to talk to people about what they can do to live an enjoyable life on low income.
I really don’t care what Tim does in his day to day. If he enjoys living in a camper, good for him. If he really means it when he says “whatta life,” then good for him. If he’s decided not to worry about tomorrow when he may lose his eyesight and can no longer make videos to provide the much needed income to support himself, then he has every right to do that. But he pushes the idea that everyone out there can just quit their jobs with no savings and live a great life with social security and a side hustle. It’s a dangerous narrative.
I allude to Tim in my video about regrets of taking SS at 62. But I don’t discuss Tim, his bad advice or his grifting on my channel. Also, no one will ever find a donation button or link on my channel. My target audience is low income seniors. I would be disingenuous if I encouraged my target audience to send me money. But Tim mentions his donation links often. If his subscribers identify with him, maybe that says something about them, too.

@@RetirementTalk43 Thanks, Howard. I retired in 2018 and I think Tim started his SS videos in 2023. I do wish I had made a wiser choice. Since I cannot turn back time, I make the most of what I have. I hope others heed my warning. And for those who already made the decision or who had no choice, I hope to share some ways of stretching those SS dollars. There are people like you, Holy Schmidt, Ed Weir and others who can help those who are doing the homework to retire intelligently.

I still find myself watching some of his videos. It just makes me so proud of what my family has accomplished. Retired, no mortgage, debt, have an emergency fund, live below our means and worked hard to have a pension. SSecirity will be icing on the cake.
It is just amazing that Sarasota Tim never provided for himself. 🙄

I don’t hate Tim at first I thought he was great I never agreed on his SS ideas but after watching him for awhile he changed and became very arrogant and narcissistic treating Tammy badly but she’s just as bad as he is ! He uses elderly people begging for money giving them bad advice! Actually you were the first person I seen to counter act his foolishness and call him out you were finally a breath of fresh air giving real advice then after a while it blew up and everybody jumped on the bandwagon which I personally feel is great I love them all ! But I really don’t think anyone hates him just calling him out ! Otters such a sweetheart looking for trouble I’m guessing! Lol !

-Tried to memory hole his highly questionable EIDL
-Adulterous relationship while pretending to be a Christian
-Continuous lies (including subscriber count)
-Continuous grifting and e-begging
-Tells users to report other content creators
-Terrible, repetitive content
-Fake preacher act
-Fake cowboy act
-Fake golfer act
-Recorded himself naked and blamed everyone else for it

Takes advantage of Teddy and Jolene. Didn’t support his kids. Didn’t provide health insurance for his kids. Doesn’t even seem to know his kids or his grandson. Grifted like crazy for free stuff on the month-long trip to Georgia with Tammy.

The other hate channels like darling dug up that he got 500 dollars just in 2 weeks off of subscribers. His side hustle is only GRIFTING OFF OF SUBSCRIBERS. Hey Howard, you were probably the single most important person influencing me to start my UA-cam channel back when I was commenting on your videos over the winter. For me, the motivation is to right UA-cam's wrong. There is a term called the "enshitification" of UA-cam. This means that the algorithm often recommends garbage content to users, just because it is engaging and not because of the quality. The result is that UA-cam is spammed with trash videos that make it difficult to find something worthwhile.
Tim is a benefactor of this. He was not only a bad person to elevate to a Social Security influencer, but perhaps the worst possible person to do so. His advice is very harmful to seniors (as you have pointed out many times) and his life is proof that he never should have taken Social Security at 62. I don't care as much about his personal life. For me it's about the terrible, damaging financial advice he gives (without any type of disclaimer) and his grifting/e-begging. Tim is doing a lot of damage to people and he's a blight on this platform. I started my channel to try to marginalize him and counter his nonsense with an alternative. Realistically I haven't done as much damage to him as he's done to himself. The more we know about Tim the more despicable and detestable he is. He truly has few redeeming qualities and I don't say that lightly. I don't hate him as a person, but I do hate his behavior and would love to see his channel relegated to the scrap heap of UA-cam. Short of that, it brings me some satisfaction that he has to toil on UA-cam 365 days a year to make endless videos for diminishing financial returns. And he will be forced to do this until the day he dies because of his lack of planning and hubris. It's truly a living hell and a life I would not wish on anyone. I really just want him to go away and would be more than happy to shut my channel down as a result.
That said, the community of Tim Parody/Hater channels and the commenters have been amazing. We all have different political views and come from different income levels and educational backgrounds. But we are all united around one thing. And that's a rare thing today. That's what sustains me.

I don't feel 'hatred' toward him. I just don't think it's right to "push" taking SS @ age 62 no matter what, as well as Advantage Plans. If it works for him, that's great. But everyone's situation is different and needs to be considered carefully. Potetially life-affecting decisions just shouldn't be pushed like that.

I don't think anyone is expressing anger towards Timothy Baker. They are expressing extreme concern about the information and the way he presents the information. I agree he can post whatever he thinks is appropriate. I have not seen one of his videos in a good while. I have seen clips from other channels. Well I think it’s sad. ST definition of a hater is someone that disagrees with him. I simply wrote I disagree with him giving a blanket statement for everyone to take social security at 62. I wrote he’s is doing his subscribers an injustice. Someone may actually take him seriously and take their SS at 62. And my comment was deleted and I was blocked.
I don’t really think it’s all hate, but as you know these days we’re living in it’s frustrating that he can just go on a media and lie and give people bad advice, play the religion card and then beg for money. Most likely from elderly people that can’t, or don’t want to see the truth. And yet UA-cam does nothing. ❤️🌵

I have a lot of hatred howie, if i may call you that. Heres the deal. He was lazy his whole life, and hit a youtube video algorithm on a topic he knew nothing about. I watched my parents work hard their whole lives to provide for their kids. Tim spent his whole life avoiding responsibility and thats how he wound up in the situation he is in (homeless)

I’ve often wondered the same thing, why so much hate. I’ve been following some of this out of curiosity and because sometimes I have nothing better to do. I watch some of his videos but most are too boring or repetitive. I also hate being preached to (by anyone) which he seems to do a lot of. I kind of feel sorry for him for his lifetime of bad decisions. He is not worth my time and effort to hate him and I liked a lot of the points you brought up.

I unsubscribed when he started his preaching, but then said that you could believe in any different god to get to heaven and he does not know the Bible. I looked at some past videos and saw so many lies. I saw him very hateful and rude to Tammy. Many people called him out for adultery and living that way and preaching. He was wicked to these people. It was crazy. I first subscribed as I thought it was fun to watch his side hustle.. but right off I could see his Medicare lies as my best friend is a Medicare broker.

I think you pretty much nailed the reason why so many people attack him. People don't like being blocked or their comments being deleted. Especially if they are just trying to present a thoughtful opposing view without malice. Also, even if he doesn't block or delete you, he will oftentimes reply back with one of his dismissive smart aleck sayings instead of seriously addressing the comment. I agree that he'd be better off simply ignoring those comments if he doesn't want to address them.

Tim's religious videos average only 1000 views which is 20 percent of others. But a disasterous year its been from 2 million views on the first retire at 62 and get a side hustle. He is so diminished he is literally begging money but then bragging at these 200$ golf shoes and 100$ golf shirts.

Watching Dim is like a cross between WWE meets As the World Turns. Scamasota Tim is my "Housewives of . The obvious reason content creators make Sarasota Tim parodies is to tag along on Scammin' Dimmy's popularity, just like you're doing. I assume your "question" was rhetorical. Personally, I don't see that much hatred it's just fun. Same reason people watch car races.
big: I asked the question because I am really curious as to the answer. There are probably a million Tim types on UA-cam and yet he is the only one I see who attracts this kind of attention from others. A channel like TrueLife Investing is far worse and has far more subs yet, gets zero parody channels. I am genuinely curious.
Can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I think its multifactorial. One, is (deny him what you will) he really has a great used car salesman type gift of gab. HE can talk on and on forever. He'd talk to a sign post if he could get it to nod occasionally. Who else can go to the bathroom and talk about it alone for 10 minutes. He was born to sell, but he's to0 lazy to put in any work to make it successful for him. He should have made a million bucks selling cars.
Two, he's completely inept at every thing he does. He has absolutely no practical every day skills. Even more interesting is he has no problem filming his ineptitude. He can't work on a car, even something extremely minor. As the deck build proved, no skill with hand tools or building and even added in his obvious laziness and lack of desire. The important thing for Tim was to APPEAR to have worked for the benefit of his sheep. He can't cook anything and he films it and proves it every day. He slaughters steaks, eggs, breakfast, grilling, etc, etc. This guy could even f*ck up a cup of coffee.
Three, he is dumb as a rock and that juxtaposed against his determination to prove he is Albert Einstein is interesting . It's sad, maddening, hilarious, etc. So much packed into his lack of intellect. I've posted often that if he had 30 more IQ points, he could have been formidable.
Four, he is a grifter and by that I mean an actual, real life person that lives by the scam. Fortunately, as he isn't anything above average IQ, he's limited to the short con for the most part. Other than maybe Tammy, he has never put together a long con his whole life, and he desperately craves it.
Five, his narcissism and concomitant psychiatric comorbidities. He's a veritable mélange of kooky. Most everyone recognizes he is narcissistic and that he is one, but extremely few realize what narcissistic personality disorder really is and means. I did a paper on it in undergraduate psychology and another one on it during my psychiatric rotations. Having had a sociopathic father and an NPD brother, it was of particular interest to me. If you look at the DSM-V under NPD they might as well add old Timmy's pic and say, "See also: Tim Baker". If I had a class of abnormal psych students and was teaching NPD 101 and used ST and said this was a real person, they'd swear I was lying because he's to overtly textbook. This is true, my man. I'd also be willing to bet he had ADHD as a child and young adult as well, given his very limited education. And the way he spends OTHER people's money, I'd throw in a big dose of bipolar disorder.
I could list at least a dozen more, but if you really understand NPD, there is not ONE thing he does or says that isn't textbook NPD. You couple all that together you have a fascinating character, albeit in a train wreck manner. As you pointed out as well, he blocks any comments that aren't fawning and people who are blocked tend to look for an outlet to expresses their opinion. SO, Tim helps CREATE and SUPPLY the audiences of the parody channels he claims to loathe. Then throw in content creators trying to get subs/views, you could do a lot worse than ST.
@@RetirementTalk43 Wrote a whole tome here, but somehow it disappeared. At any rate, go to the DSM-V and look at the actual clinical definition of NPD. Then juxtapose that against all that he does in his videos and you see that he has a plethora of material to work from for content for YT'ers. Also, because of his NPD and other psych comorbidities, it makes for a fascinating character that isn't like anyone else, and his crazy amount he puts out. Due to his NPD he also actually really and truly gets what is called narcissistic injury from "bad" comments and so he blocks them. As a result of that, most people who get blocked like to have an outlet for their opinion and where better than parody forums. Tim helped create the parody channels and then keeps giving them with a huge supply of audience to comment on their vids. Plus, for YT'ers its a quick and easy way for them to get subs and views. Supremely ironic that ST makes 3-4 or more videos a day to grab 3-4 thousand views and almost every parody channel, full or PT, get that many off their vids. Kind of fascinating really. Just in a train wreck sort of way.

True, his advice about retirement and SS is not going to work for a majority of the population. Everyone's situation is different and what will work best for them. However, I don't understand all the hatred either. People complain about his EIDL loan, he's a grifter, beggar, etc. I'd think he's not twisting any arms for a coffee?! lol Yeah, that wasn't cool. Although, our gov't allowed it and he'll most likely have to answer for it at some point. Good Evening Mr Howard and Otter the coach Dog! From what I can tell ST is doing his best to entertain and enjoy his life. His views are his views and some folks agree and some don't. And then we have the critics who like to challenge and it's perfectly fine to challenge a POV. However, sometimes the bully surfaces and it goes a little too far. Anyone on you tube is going to experience the so called haters, I have to believe its simply a method to gain subscribers. Kinda sounds like politics ... I am so glad you brought this up Howard, as I've been having similar thoughts. I ran into Sarasota Tim's videos after I retired and started watching every retirement UA-cam advisor for confirmation that I was making the correct decisions. He made some good points and seemed to be having the time of his life in a camper and sweet companion. But after a couple of videos, I noticed his math didn't add up (e.g. not accounting for Colas), he was still having to work odd jobs to make ends meet which was a huge red flag, and instead of providing practical advice with spreadsheets, it quickly became videos of the banal, mundane and senselessness - like trips to an oil change, etc. So I unsubscribed. Plus - the fact that he did not respond to my correction of the math on one video.
Then in the last year, the UA-cam algorithm forwarded the Tim-hate videos as well. At first it seems amusing, but honestly they quickly became voyeuristic and cruel. Warning people about any bad financial or poorly reasoned retirement advice or inappropriate videos from Tim or elsewhere is a service to the community - but following a person's life, discussing their pee bottle in the camper, their personal life, etc. is bordering stalking, and does not seem appropriate or useful for anyone. We all know who Tim is and it is time to move on.

I think the reason why people are against Tim is because he uses manipulation to get people to watch. Once you are drawn in you see what he really is. Good people dislike fraudulent people and things. Also he does have high emotional intelligence and identifies those in his community that will happily fund his exploits. Again good people see this as a taking candy from a baby. He sees it like other wolves like him see it, opportunity. Anyway many people tuning in now to see the eventual fall. Just add here the guy films his videos in the nude and then tries to justify it. That’s enough for me to identify a skinner.

Can’t help you here. I have watched a bit of his stuff. No hatred from me. Doesn’t mean I agree with his retirement advice and perhaps he is giving bad advice but I think he should be free to share his thoughts and it seems to be working for him. I view him as a youtube retirement personality for entertainment and not a professional advisor.

He popped up on my feed several months ago because of his retirement videos. Never subscribed and I would never take his advice, but at least his message was upbeat. Since, it’s like driving slowly by a car wreck. You know you shouldn’t, but………the hate is not just from putting out repetitive, pointless videos - others have commented on the reasons. Tim is just a messed up person, not a good one, and should not be a role model for anyone, nor should he be dispensing advice to anyone who would be inclined to listen. Feel bad for the guy, but no one likes a grifter who can’t or won’t defend the nonsense he is dispensing.

I don't like him because he spews bad information. Instead of saying "hey this works for ME" it's "hey this is what YOU should be doing". He thinks he knows everything. He cannot even follow instructions on how to microwave frozen vegetables. He's very inconsiderate of others. Always putting people on camera in public and acting like it's ok or even normal.

The reason for the "Tim Hate" is multi-faceted in my opinion. 1) There is a hard-core group of viewers that cannot stand UA-camrs making money. I've been watching this go on for years. I look at it like the video creators are providing entertainment. Actors, musicians, dancers etc get paid too. Do you hate them? 2) Another group is the people who can't stand to hear about God or religious beliefs. Tim brings up his religious stuff on the regular. 3) Tim is a happy go lucky, good looking guy. Men are perhaps jealous of that and his pretty woman Tammy. 4) He was a car salesman. 5) And this was my beef with him: Giving out financial advice constantly about retiring at 62 and taking a reduced benefit, without making it clear that he had no credentials to be doing so, especially in his early videos. I would cringe when I saw questions in the comments asking for his advice. As a widow living in a 55 plus community I see how hard it is to make it on a fixed income that was reduced by early retirement at 62. Widows and widowers are losing their homes here due to inflation and greed of landlords. When I claim mine at age 70 I'll be just fine. I worked. Not a trad wife as they call homemakers now. Tim isn't doing anyone favors encouraging early SS.

I watched Tim for about 6 months and saw him turn kooky after the split with "Miss" Tammy. I knew he was phony right off but he had the gift of gab and I like watching salesman do the tight rope walk. In one video he had a working man in a rush at a Wawa hold his camera for him while he added sugar to his coffee and I called him a flake for it and he blocked me. I dont miss the content at all, been about 3 months I suppose. Tim is a full on phony imo, the Christian thing included. He almost lost me while being a free guest at one of those chalets he stayed at when I saw the owner had tacked an eff Joe Biden sticker on his pit bulls collar and had maga flags around the property but I stuck it out a little while longer. Anywho.

It's entertainment for crying out loud. My wife and I use our brains regarding our finances, not any YT videos. There are several YT videos suggesting claim at 62. Do your own research. We are collecting at 62 by our own choice to preserve IRA balances. There are many variations when making this decision. Don't blame Tim or anyone else for your mistakes.
