Finally somebody giving the clash of ninja games on the wii some indepth review. I wish CONR3 story wasn't so short as it presented itself. It was a blast to play local multiplayer with brothers, cousins and friends during high-school.
In case anyone wants to know what the online was like in Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 - It was awful, like most online Wii games at the time. There was delay-based netcode resulting in slowed-down framerates when lag occurred, lots of players rage quitting, and zero matchmaking meaning you often played against people who had no life, taking you out in a single combo.
There's one thing that was definitely worth mentioning with EX1 though: Naruto has an unique super move to this game using his clones for a Rasengan combo, which looked really fun. EX2 and every other game since replaced it with the Giant Rasengan, so that's an EX1 exclusive fun detail.
This guys vibe is so positive and pleasant :) I don’t even actively watch the whole way through but I love leaving them on in the background because his commentary is so upbeat
I remember seeing a screenshot of the massive character selection of Gekito Naruto Taisen Special as a kid and I totally thought it was fake but wow turns out this game just wasn’t released here in the states 😭 definitely gonna getting this game idc what it takes
Actually when a character glows at low HP in gekitou ninja taisen ex 3 and the others that have that feature they all get abilities/specific boosts. Like Sasuke does more damage with swords, Kisame doesn't consume chakra for water clones, etc. sometimes it's easy to miss.
18:54 This happens because EX 2 along with some of the other games in the series (and many other Wii games, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for example) don't actually have proper 16:9 modes. Because the Wii uses anamorphic widescreen, which is basically content at 4:3 made to be stretched to look like 16:9, when you boot up a game that doesn't support 16:9 it looks stretched because it's really just a stretched 4:3 image. Put the Wii into 4:3, and set your TV to not stretch the picture and it'll look normal.
Just a tiny little thing about the mention of boss characters in Rev2's story having Hyper Armor. That's been a thing in Clash of Ninja 2 btw. Gaara had hyper armor in the final fight with Naruto so it kinda confused me when it sounded like it was the first time you encountered something like that. It was easy with Naruto though because his BBB string knocks the opponent off their feet with the third hit. Secondly, and I'm not fully expecting you to just know this of course, you CAN stagger opponents with Hyper Armor, just gotta knock them off their feet with sweeps or attacks that constitute as lows. (Down B's for example) Also, in the Rev2 section you probably didn't figure it out BUT you can actually reflect projectiles like kunais/shurikens and paper bombs by flicking the C-Stick as it's flying towards you! Neat little thing that goes into the next title. Small nitpicks but fair reviews from someone who doesn't SUPER sweat the games like I do lmao, cool videos nonetheless.
Absolutely love the video, great job. I will say, not a fan on how Special handles it's substitutions. In the earlier games, it functioned as a risk-reward mechanic, because you could choose to either escape a combo and lose 75% of your chakra (due to substituting) or keep the chakra, but take more damage (due to not escaping the combo). Since Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4, you could press Y under certain circumstances to cancel an attack for 25% chakra, allowing for new combos to be performed. Specifically, your opponent needs to be airborne, you need to hit them with an attack that isn't a sweep (stuff like down A/B on most characters) and have 25% chakra.
Great pair of videos! I love that someone is acknowledging the games from this era! It feels like there were a ton of anime fighting/party/adventure games between the mid-2000s and early 2010s that just kinda... Stopped all of a sudden, so it's really cool to have someone talk about them! I always found it cool that the Rev games had their own original characters, as well! Do you think you'll keep covering different anime franchises game series? I can't wait to see what's next!
I really wish they continued this series. It was one of my favorite games growing up and even playing it today its still a blast. I definitely prefer the clash of ninja series gameplay to the storm series.
So if I remember correctly Bando , kagura, towa and komachi were western exclusive for a while because they debuted in REV 2 which was a western only release and REV 3 (which they also appeared in) was specifically developed also for western release so those 4 characters didn’t show up in Japan until GNT Special. And because GNT Special was only in Japan the west never got post time skip Ino, Minato, Killer B, Ay and Sage mode Naruto
@@montelhelem8707 Oh yeah you're right, well I should have checked instead of going off memory. I really did feel like they were in the game though but I probably just kinda fused it with Rev 3 since I haven't played both in ages
Shout out to that time when I was a kid, I was playing REV3 with my sister, and she kept beating me, so I threw my controller at the couch, it bounced up, and then hit the window. Also, fuck that Deidara fight. I spent about a month trying to get past the clone fights only to never end up beating that one. To this day, I still haven't gone back and done it.
There is a good sub series called ninja chronicals that had 2 ps2 entries and a psp entry that had a cool customization system and was an action brawler. It would be cool to see you check it out.
I remember as kid knowing of the existence of GNT3 and GNT4 and was excited for Revolution 2 because I thought that was the translated version of GNT4, because Revolution 1 was more similar to its japanese counterpart, and as soon as I saw title screen I knew it wasnt the same game and felt somewhat dissapointed, never cared for the paper bomb or hand signs or the original characters made the story neither the stage transitions. I prefered the 3v3 feature of GNT4 because "its like marvel vs capcom 2 bbyyyy" at least thats what I thought at the time. I still think that Revolution 2 pales in comparasion to GNT4.
The shop is so much better you have to play over 700 fights in Rev 2 just to unlock all characters the store in 3 you can cheese it just by doing the mission list and it’s easy to rack up ryo in the first couple of missions that aren’t drastically too difficult..
I find it very confusing that you had such an issue with the last fights in Rev 2 but said very little about the final boss in Rev 3. At least with the fights in Rev 2, you can stagger them(aside from Guy but at least you have 2 partners in that fight) by sweeping them or any other move that knocks them off their feet. Final boss in Rev 3 can't be staggered at all. They also have ranged attacks that shatter your guard in one hit. That fight is 10 times worst than anything in Rev 2.
Revolution 2 is definitely my favorite… is what I would say if I ever beat the overpowered Bando fight with Jiraiya. Him armoring thru every combo and killing me just made me put the game down as a kid
I did a quick digging on Gekito Ninja Taisen EX. That game was released in 2007, not 2006. And here I thought my memories were messed up when you mentioned 2006, which that's impossible as the tv anime came out in 2007 in the same month, as my Freshman year memories serve me well.
Revolution games have always had stage transitions, and when they say two way stage transition it means theres multiple places to knock them off now. Hope this clears some things up
Wow I am amazed at your work man! Very relatable, very likeable and fair assessments that you also acknowledge of possible user error on your behalf. Amazing review that I can definitely feel refreshed from content on UA-cam. Having literally spent summers playing these series with friends and family, I came here randomly just searching for Naruto Clash of Ninja nostalgia and I definitely enjoyed going through the past!
My nephew and I have way too many hours in Revolution 3. I loved the grind. It might be the only game I have ever enjoyed grinding. It was so exciting for us to pick our next new character, and you got ryo from normal gameplay, so it's not like we ever played just to unlock something. The second stage transition felt nearly impossible to pull off. We only did it a handful of times and I don't think we ever figured out how we were supposed to be doing it. We might be the only people to also defend the Wii controls. We both shake our hands a lot when we get excited, so playing an exciting game and being encouraged to constantly shake the controller was so satisfying. Tbf though, I've enjoyed the weird shoehorned motion controls of every Wii game I've ever played.
For the shop vs random unlock I'd say a mix of both. Make it so you can unlock through playing the story, but if you don't feel like going through all that, Grindr to buy them all in shop.
Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX3 has a special place in my heart because it's the first "clash of ninja" game i've played after 2 and also one of the first game i've hacked for my WII.
16:15 I immediately thought of pirate warriors games, the cutscenes don’t really change from 1, 3 and 4 but how they tell the story in gameplay do, and pirate warriors 2 is entirely non canon, now I want you to play every pirate warriors game
Would had love if there was a mention of sasori and hirukos poison ability that reverses controls and does chip damage or kisame draining chakra with his sword
I think I prefer a mix of unlocking through gameplay and buying stuff in shops for these sorts of games, similar to how the Budokai series done it, you get characters and stages after beating them/fighting on that stage on that stage in story mode as well as a few moves moves and items but the rest will be primarily through the shop, basically unlock essentials through gameplay, fluff through shop. Did you ever figure out how to structure the "I played every street fighter game" idea? because I thought of a way to structure it in three parts if you'd want to hear
Unlike the game sins format, you still own this niche. Lots of similar attempts but nothing as comprehensive, all poorly named and structured oddly. Rarely do they actually say anything informative. You serve a delicacy I can only get here.
13:41 neither is better. Smash Bros./Kirby Air Ride style of achievements where by unlocking an achievement, it shows you how you could finish others that are near it. It's great how it doesn't reveal every achievement, but doesn't leave you in the dark full you're completely done chipping away everyone of them one by one. A lot more games can benefit from such a system. Using it as an unlock system than just for achievements.
In Ex3 lnp aren't stat boosts, What they are is a special ability I guess, Asuma 5a/ja becomes unblockable. Shika paper bombs become traps etc. A big change from ex2-ex3 though was the addition of being able to sub otg hits. In the ex engine otg combo's are a very big thing so that addition changed it alot from a competitive point of view. From ex1-2 they changed block stun, Made meter gain Victim > attacker, Among other things. We currently have a scene that plays ex3 competitively on damage setting 4 if you are interested.
Clash of Ninja just felt like a more honest and fast-paced fighting game to me. I had Clash of Ninja 2 for GameCube and Ultimate Ninja 1 for PS2. Both games covered about the same content story-wise, and while I liked both games, I vastly preferred Clash of Ninja 2. It was like a baby's first Tekken kind of game, and it felt great to play. Gekito Ninja Taisen 4 and Gekito Ninja Taisen Special seem like the definitive games for their respective consoles, and it's a shame they were never localized. It really sucks that the western releases had to scrub content and even make up original content because they were so far behind in the anime and the Japanese releases. This was an awkward era of anime licensed games where localizers felt the need to cut content just so they don't spoil things not officially shown in their region yet. In my experience, One Piece Grand Battle had this problem, and Zatch Bell: Mamodo Battles had this problem too.
Also, aside from "another great video", you should consider a side series delving deeper into some of the fighting games and your opinions. I genuinely would love to hear you break down fighting game rosters. As a side series I mostly recommend it because I want to see that, from you specifically. Plenty of experts making tier lists, but that's not what you do. You describe and explain, and I'd rather know why someone is cool than what rank they are.
I had it because of the Jojo all star battle R dlc; Risotto Nero plays really interestingly and he wasn't out when you reviewed it. Then I thought about what descriptions you do give, and they make me want those for every character, like Pet Shop for instance. You know that Jojo stuff hits the metrics like candy lol
Something you missed with the latent mode is that it sometimes changes a character's Special move like Kiba's Fang over Fang becoming orange tinted and more furious or Ino kicking the foe into the air and blowing them up
What is funny is tha Ino is so useless (Because of Kishinoto's writing) that in the games she uses those flowers for special attacks, bur never did use them in the anime in that deadly way.
I believe you should be able to attack during stage transitions since you could in EX 1. It probably just didn't have displays for em when using a gamecube controller. Wouldn't be till Special that GameCube Controller gets HUD displays for attack transitions and specials. Not sure why they never added them for the earlier games. Also yes GNT4 has a competitive scene. Really more so Super GNT4
If I remember correctly, the regular attack moved 1 Chiyo puppet special attacks move the other. And a certain button can drag then closer to you. U less thats Kankuro
Man, actual good ocs, I really miss Kagura and Bando(who's name is Namco and Bandai lol portmanteau) Kagura is so thick, not even Tsunade makes her flinch.
The naruto shinobi retsuden/ninja destiny games on the ds are basically portable versions of clash of ninja series but with alterations you should check them out.
Yea rev 2 story mode kabuto fight is frustrating due to Regenration. The grind isnt too bad in rev 3. ex 1 gives naruto a unique super exclusive to that game and certain characters have moves/supers throughout ex that dont return in Rev 3
If you have a few hours to spare, please do Dragon Blade Chronicles. It’s technically part of the Clash of Ninja series. For Naruto’s 10th anniversary, developers were tasked with making a special spinoff game. It basically took the 3D mode from EX3 and improved it into something much better. The game was poorly received, though this was mostly due to the Wii hardware not being able to handle it (it was a pretty big production, basically almost Storm level of story telling). If you play it on a capable PC I think you’ll enjoy it a lot. It doesn’t feature the 2D gameplay like Clash of Ninja. But it’s the same models and assets and overall heart (same developers). Gekitou Ninja Taisen Special even pays homage by using musical themes, updated character models, and even background Easter eggs from Dragon Blade Chronicles. A few of these include: -Sasuke and Itachi’s music themes in Gekinin Road are from DBC -the two filler characters from DBC can be seen in the background of the Main Gate stage -Naruto and Sakura’s models are completely new in DBC. These new models were used in Special. -Sasuke and Itachi also got updated models in DBC. Some (not all) of the new models were used to improve the models used in SP, such as Sasuke’s face and Itachi’s hair.
Clash of ninja revolution three was the first game I ever 100% completed. Call me crazy but I loved the grind as a kid. Finding out about Anbu Kakashi made it all worth it in the end lol. I completed it 3 times on three different consoles at my parents and grandparents houses. Good times…
I used to no-life revolution 3 as a kid. Played it with my friends back in the day and still do now. I definitely prefer this gameplay over storm's gameplay but im extremely biased.
I think the beat ‘‘em up type from genkitou ninja raises 3 is probably inspired by a Naruto spin off for the wii called Naruto dragon blade chronicles also u miss to mention that u cancel attacks and also that certain low hp stat boost have certain specific effects for characters Gaara block unblockable atacks, does not receive chip damage, gets a counter jutsu in revolution 3. But still great review as always
Kabuto in CONR2 was too op, we had to ban using him during local multiplayer mode. In spectator mode kabuto literally always wins due to his overpowered regeneration . Tony nerfed kabuto in CONR3 but he became my main in that game as long with sasori and tsunade.
He's really not that powerful aside from his killer Back-B and regeneration. The real game breaker in Rev. 2 was Ultimate Nine-Tailed Naruto. Even without the abilities he has in Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4, his Rev. 2 counterpart gained easier access to his down+X special and gained unblockable ranged attacks. He literally invalidates 2/3's of the roster as most of them can't win against him.
As a child and teenager I was lucky to play Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 and then there's Clash of Ninja Revolution... Maybe it's just because I just can't stand any other sub than the Japanese one. I used to love these games back then. Personally these videos would have been more interesting to me if it were a bit less about game modes and gameplay details but more about the roster and character differences.
What's better: Buying unlocks in an in-game shop or unlocking everything through gameplay? Also, what's the best Clash of Ninja/Gekitou Ninja Taisen game?
Both the shop and unlocking it through gameplay are grindy, I'd probably go with naturally through gameplay to avoid microtransactions
Id rather gameplay honestly👨🏾🦼its always fun, even with the grind
Shop is better. Give me that transparency over what I'm doing with my time any day.
The shop for sure, through gameplay is hella frustrating
I think it doesn't depend on if you are getting it trough the Shop or gameplay I just want to be able to pick and chose what I want to invest my time on when I have to "grind" im both cases :)

It’s called Uzamaki Chronicles not Ninja
@@reallyhimongod you got me, i was speaking from memory
Missed some things but over all good review
Revolution 2 is definitely my favorite… is what I would say if I ever beat the overpowered Bando fight with Jiraiya. Him armoring thru every combo and killing me just made me put the game down as a kid
man they just need to make another clash of ninja game with all new roster and mechanics literally the best series they made
A new Clash of Ninja would be AMAZING
I appreciate that a lot. Thank you :)
CONR 2 came out when i was 10 years old. I’m 24 now😭
Came out when I was 12 Im 26
I wish sage mode Naruto got more time in the spotlight. He's legit my fave form of Naruto beside kyubi chakra cloak form.
Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen EX3 has a special place in my heart because it's the first "clash of ninja" game i've played after 2 and also one of the first game i've hacked for my WII.
Clash of ninja Revolution 3 look fantastic
Thanks for the video! I’m looking forward to what you have coming up next :)
Good job on the Editing
The final boss in Revolution 3 is flat out UNFAIR. Deidara takes practically NO hit stun and his moves do triple damage on you
16:15 I immediately thought of pirate warriors games, the cutscenes don’t really change from 1, 3 and 4 but how they tell the story in gameplay do, and pirate warriors 2 is entirely non canon, now I want you to play every pirate warriors game
22:56 “THE BOUNCER” type of battle system! Never thought id see a naruto version of that. I wish they expand more on this idea.
I like your taste in video games. You're the first person I've seen reference The Bouncer in years lol
Love these games, revolution 3 is my favorite 💕
It took me 30 attempts to defeat deidara in the story mode I didn't play the game for 3 days after that.
Yea true him being the final boss fight in the game they had to really make it feel like a tough fight
@@jonnycarter46 this was 10 years ago I still remember dying from 2 explosions & throwing my controller.
Rev 2 and rev 3 story modes difficulty spikes were EXHAUSTING back when i first played them. I still dont know how i ever made it through them
Unlike the game sins format, you still own this niche.
Awesome! He’s covering the Ninja revolution games (surprisingly, not a lot of people know about these games).
Btw, I’m watching this late but thanks for posting this 2 days after my birthday (even if it wasn’t intentional).
It always makes me laugh how he says "buuut" or "preeetty".
I'm gonna think about this comment every time I say it now lmao
@@Niosai I thought it was intentional 😂
If you keep adding my man Deidara to these Naruto thumbnails you just might have to become my fave UA-camr
Deidara is garbage tf
3:20 I did play this with the wii remote and it controlled great with it and the hand sign mechanic with the with remote actually wasn't to bad
You need help no one plays with the Wii remote what are you 8?
This is a neat idea 👀
I support this with both hands :D
I had it because of the Jojo all star battle R dlc; Risotto Nero plays really interestingly and he wasn't out when you reviewed it. Then I thought about what descriptions you do give, and they make me want those for every character, like Pet Shop for instance.
You know that Jojo stuff hits the metrics like candy lol
I thinks it's better to unlock the main cast through the story mode and others additional/special character through in game shop!
Something you missed with the latent mode is that it sometimes changes a character's Special move like Kiba's Fang over Fang becoming orange tinted and more furious or Ino kicking the foe into the air and blowing them up
With the popularity of FighterZ i would be so hype with a Clash of Ninja game with an expansive roster and focus on competitive balancing
You should play rom hacks like: Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4 and Super Naruto Clash of Ninja 4
Really more so Super GNT4
conr3 was my first clash of ninja and naruto game
it's cool seeing how they came up
would be interesting to see a new one from Eighting now
I think both a shop and unlocks through gameplay are both welcome in a game to me.
@Niosai 5:54 how did you get this mode I’ve had the game for over 3 years now and don’t know how to find it?
“The Saiyan goes.” 🥸
I remember that Orochhimaru fight so well. "Impudent pup!" X-INFINITY
If I remember correctly, the regular attack moved 1 Chiyo puppet special attacks move the other. And a certain button can drag then closer to you. U less thats Kankuro
Man, actual good ocs, I really miss Kagura and Bando(who's name is Namco and Bandai lol portmanteau)
Kagura is so thick, not even Tsunade makes her flinch.
The naruto shinobi retsuden/ninja destiny games on the ds are basically portable versions of clash of ninja series but with alterations you should check them out.
These games where my childhood and as I find it funny they're the only ones you can play as Baki (Gaara's sensei)
perfect birthday present ☺️😁
Happy birthday, you legend!
@@Niosai Thank you very much! 🤗
Clash of ninja is the best Naruto game series ever by a landslide. Sucks they never got far enough to get all the characters we wanted
I loved the clash of ninjas games I wish they made more of them
Yea rev 2 story mode kabuto fight is frustrating due to Regenration. The grind isnt too bad in rev 3. ex 1 gives naruto a unique super exclusive to that game and certain characters have moves/supers throughout ex that dont return in Rev 3
I just wish the later Clash of Ninja games kept in the weird characters, like playing as Akamaru or the puppets without the puppet masters
I miss when Bandai and atari were releasing anime tekken clones every year. These anime games were peak
I played a lot of Gekitou Ninja Taisen Special back in the day, it is a pretty good game
Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 & 3 were also in widescreen.
A few of these include:
-Sasuke and Itachi’s music themes in Gekinin Road are from DBC
-the two filler characters from DBC can be seen in the background of the Main Gate stage
-Naruto and Sakura’s models are completely new in DBC. These new models were used in Special.
-Sasuke and Itachi also got updated models in DBC. Some (not all) of the new models were used to improve the models used in SP, such as Sasuke’s face and Itachi’s hair.
EPIC video
Clash of ninja revolution three was the first game I ever 100% completed. Call me crazy but I loved the grind as a kid. Finding out about Anbu Kakashi made it all worth it in the end lol. I completed it 3 times on three different consoles at my parents and grandparents houses. Good times…
I used to no-life revolution 3 as a kid. Played it with my friends back in the day and still do now. I definitely prefer this gameplay over storm's gameplay but im extremely biased.
I think the beat ‘‘em up type from genkitou ninja raises 3 is probably inspired by a Naruto spin off for the wii called Naruto dragon blade chronicles also u miss to mention that u cancel attacks and also that certain low hp stat boost have certain specific effects for characters
Gaara
block unblockable atacks, does not receive chip damage, gets a counter jutsu in revolution 3. But still great review as always
The thing i do to get points on con r 3 is playing survival while having level 4 for damage so I can fast wins and fast points
Could you please do a video on the naruto Uzumaki chronicle games too cause those were so fun to play,at least the second one for me
This series was how I got to Kamen Rider Dragon Knight on the Wii
As a child and teenager I was lucky to play Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 and then there's Clash of Ninja Revolution... Maybe it's just because I just can't stand any other sub than the Japanese one. I used to love these games back then.
Personally these videos would have been more interesting to me if it were a bit less about game modes and gameplay details but more about the roster and character differences.
