In this video I’ll be talking about the best remote jobs and ranking them from s tier which is the best to f tier which is the worst.
So what is a remote job? It’s the practice of employees doing their work from another location other than the main office of the employer. Oftentimes the employees will work from home.
Remote careers are becoming more and more common especially after the last 2 years…
When I talk to my subscribers, many of them prefer either an entirely remote job, or at least a hybrid job.
But not all remote careers are created equal, some are much much better than others. Today I’ll be ranking them and the criteria I use are how easy it is to break in, how much they pay, the demand, and how easy it is to do the job remotely/find a job that allows you to work remote.
Some common questions:
What is remote vs work from home? - Most of the time they’re the same thing, but in some cases you might work at a satellite location that’s away from the main office, or if you choose you may be able to travel while working remotely as well!
Do remote workers get paid less? - Not in the good careers that I will be mentioning in this video. In fact, if you’re smart about time management, you can even get multiple jobs and make much much more money.
How do I start a remote job? - A topic for another video, but you would be surprised at how many jobs can be done remotely. Even jobs in the medical field can be done remotely (at least partially)
Are remote jobs better? - Many would argue yes, including me.
Can I work remotely from another state or sometimes another country? - You have to check with your company, but in many cases, especially in technology and business, the answer is yes.
Is remote working good? - Most people enjoyed working remotely better than going to the office for many reasons. For one, you save a ton of money on clothes, food, gas, etc if you get to work from home. Plus you don’t have to commute which saves you a lot of time. On top of this, many companies actually found that for many roles, remote workers were more productive than those that went to the office, and also happier! Happier and more productive workers are a win win for the company and the employee
What is the best job to do remotely? - Watch the video to find out ;)
Enjoy :)

Could you make a list of the best places to find a customer representative job online for people who doesn't live in the USA, please?
It isn't free. It costs $787
not free
I work from home, make about $130K a year and work litigated property claims for an insurance carrier in the US. I'm an insurance adjuster by training, not an attorney. I am rarely on the phone, but have anywhere from 5 to 10 Zoom calls a week on average. The work is mostly solitary and very interesting. Not much stress. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to an office ever again.

I went remote 7 years ago to be a digital nomad while traveling in SE Asia. I worked mostly customer service jobs, mostly email support. Easy entry level and pay was decent for local cost of living in places like Thailand. Folks usually turn their noses up at customer service but it's the easiest way to get your foot in the door at most companies and more job security since the turnover is so high.
Hey can you give some examples of jobs you applied for? I'm currently in Thailand and open to any suggestions so I can stay here!

I just want to say thank you Shane. I'm a second-generation American who grew up in poverty so I had no career or educational guidance around me. Luckily I was self-motivated and guided into college by my high school guidance counselor and got my bachelor's degree, but it was in Communications (I had absolutely no direction or clue what to study mind you this was in 2011). Anyways, your content has helped me pursue more strategic paths at work without having to go back to school and get into debt for a worthless master's degree. I currently work at a local government agency as a community relations assistant with a hybrid schedule and I'm going to double down on my technical skills rather than theory such as bilingual translation, project management, copywriting, and graphic design. I wish more high school guidance counselors or other educational pipelines were as helpful as your channel has been in finding upward mobility. Thanks again!

Great Video !!
I do UX design and it is great. I think if you are a creative visual type it is one of the best careers available. I worked a crappy graphic design job and learned some skills outside of work to transition to UX. The pay is solid, the work/life balance is good, you can do it 100% remotely and it is a very hot field. Plus you get to design websites/apps which is pretty cool.
I definitely recommend it for creative types. College degree helps but not required per say if you put in the time to develop skills on your own.
what skills would you say are the most important to develop?
@@sarahalkuwairan6351good question…this is going to be a long answer, but I would consider studying these areas:
UX PROCESS: this is the most important piece in my opinion…from identifying a problem, to understanding your target audience, what do your users like and dislike about existing products, how will your solution make their experience better, mapping out user journeys, interpreting user research, constructing prototypes, etc.
Find some books or videos and try to get a grasp on this. It’s a lot to understand but you’ll get the hang of it after a while
USABILITY PRINCIPLES: basically just understanding what good practices and bad practices are in terms of building a functional and pleasant user experience. Understand accessibility (making designs that are usable by people with various impairments such as color blindness)
VISUAL DESIGN SKILLS: not all UX designers need to be skilled visual designers but they compliment each other very well. Once again watch some tutorials on graphic/visual design principles, particularly for designing interfaces
SOFTWARE: I primarily use Adobe XD for building prototypes, but you can also use things like Sketch, Figma, Axure, etc. Try out a few and see what you like. Also learning Illustrator/Photoshop is helpful, maybe a mapping tool like LucidChart, Miro or FigJam as well
DESIGN SYSTEMS: these are guidelines to help you build products, for example Human Interface Guidelines (Apple) and Material Design (Google) are giant libraries of components (icons, buttons, text, etc.) with explanations into how and when to use each one. Very good to know this stuff
What I would recommend is first is just watch some videos or read some books on UX design basics. Understand the field and what it entails. As you get more advanced, test your skills by designing your own product prototype. Show it to your friends and get some feedback. It will just be for practice so don’t get discouraged if it isn’t great at first.
I know that’s a lot but there is a lot of thinking that goes into UX! Like anything just invest time and you’ll develop skills and understanding.
One piece of wisdom I will leave you with that I learned on the job…”cool” is a four-letter word (as in a naughty word.) A lot of inexperienced UX designers go for designs that just look “cool” rather than trying to solve a real problem and offer a great experience to their users.
Think of Amazon. It doesn’t look that cool but it works amazingly well.
Hope that helps!
If we were to go the degree route, what degree would you recommend to get into this industry?
@@halahsmith9931 I personally went to design school which was a mix of fine art, design principles and technology (animation, software, etc.) and I just got a bachelor’s degree
I actually did not specifically go to school to learn UX, but some of the skills I learned transferred over
I’m not sure if you truly need a degree to learn UX, but I find the college environment helpful for learning, networking, and learning other skills that are useful in jobs. It will also help you stand out compared to someone who didn’t go to college, provided your skills are where they should be when applying. But I understand these days student debt is a problem for a lot of people
I would look into universities that offer design programs, and see which majors offer a blend of visual design/graphic design skills, technology and design thinking. Or if a UX design major exists, that could be a good bet. They weren’t really a thing when I was in college
Maybe take some psych classes on the side to learn about human behavior/response to stimuli, research methods, etc. just to broaden your knowledge…or read books on those topics at least
UX is tricky because sometimes it is more visual, sometimes it is more about planning/data analysis, and other times it is about conducting research…I went a more visual route at first and learned the psychological/data aspects later. that is just my path though, so what was best for me may not be best for you and vice versa.
I would just google “UX career paths” or “getting started in UX” or “best majors/schools for UX”, and see what makes sense for your interests
hope that helps!

Good content in fast-paced video, but need to pause to read some screens. Also, a video about hardware and office space for remote work would be valuable.
Some companies provide everything. You usually need a high capacity and RELIABLE internet provider. No internet, no work, no job or work in office.
Great video. This really gave me a better understanding of what career to pursue because I honestly don't like a typical 9-5--definitely need more freedom in my work life.
Glad it was helpful. Goodluck!
Love my remote data analyst job. Totally agree it's S-tier
Thanks, it's very interesting
fyi, "instructional design" has been around for decades. I started working from home doing ID work in 1995, after I'd worked as an eLearning manager for a utility for 4 years. I left the office and went out on my own and got my own clients. So, it's kind of insane to hear someone say that this hasn't been around until recently. You may think it hasn't been around long because *you* haven't been around for long ;)
even tho iv settled on doing radiation therapist i still wanna watch ur vids and support

I'm currently working in tech as a support engineer. I work from home and my salary is pretty good. Hoping to get another promotion soon and maybe I'll look into moving to the Philippines or Latin America. Haven't decided yet
Hey my husband has experience as a tech support what company are hiring right now? For a remote position
I'd love to work remote to focus more time on my education but I feel like I don't qualify for much. 3rd year into an accounting major and it seems the barrier is set very high. I've applied to about 50 entry-level accounting jobs and got 1 interview (at my current company of 4 years) and was told I wasn't in the strong category of applicants. Networking might be just as beneficial as knowledge.. I might switch to remote or hybrid work after a good foundation.
Work on selling yourself better during the interviews.
@@aliveandwell3958 Happy to say I finally broke into the accounting field and absolutely killing it. It’s definitely the small win I needed. I can still work on my interviews, though.
@@29_lets_go that’s great to hear! Thanks for the update!
The first job is usually the hardest to get, in many fields. After that it gets easier. Job experience is important to employers. Don't get discouraged, it's just hard at first, keep trying.
Can you do some videos telling us what some of them do? Tried to search your videos for an expanation on Web Designer but it mainly brought up these tier lists that have web designer in the rank.
I've been looking for a remote job for months. Outside of a lot of scammers, its impossible to just got find one (Like data entry) where you can start immediatly. I would take anything right now, hoping to avoid customer service.
guessing still no luck?
@@user-yd9od2xu9q NADA
Any luck? I’m trying to find a remote job too.
Unless you have a certain skillset, customer service would be your best (perhaps only) option
You need to gain keyboarding skills and be able to type a certain wpm depending on the job. The uploader dropped the ball on the data entry topic.
Not a bad vid! One thing I'd say you're overselling is how easy it is to get some of these remote jobs to folks that haven't applied.
Folks, remote jobs are not like your retail or fast food jobs in your city or town where you throw in an app and basically have a job offer.
For better or worse, most of y'all are going to have to put in a lot of applications and time to land even one of the "easier" jobs this guy is promoting.
It took me a solid 6 months to land my first remote contract as a part time customer rep through Upwork and another year to land an actual full time remote job -- and I put in A TON of applications through various job sites.
It was definitely a journey but if you want it enough chances are you can make it happen -- whether you get lucky and land a remote gig out the gate you want or are like me and it takes some time...just keep pushing! 🍻
The only jobs I have a degree for, and am actually interested in, are in B tier (teacher; maybe tutor). Most of the higher listed jobs in this video are not my thing, unfortunately.
Good list, but want to make a note for anyone else without experience, the tier placement is highly subjective. I'm a game dev who now works remote doing art and engineering work. It does take more effort to collaborate remotely, but also gives me more time to focus on problem solving and getting work done. It can be easy to get bogged down with meetings and interruptions in a work place. It's a bit of a trade off, but I'd put engineering higher on my list.
I've also had to do digital marketing for my own game I've made with a few other guys. I can tell you, with our personality types, it was absolutely the worst part of making a game for all of us. There are some people who enjoy that stuff, but as for me and my friends/colleagues we HATE it. I'd be D/F tier for me.
Marketing versus Engineering folks are often polar opposites.

While i am relieved you have rated tech related jobs as ':S' , especially web developer, the problem i see for me is that i still dont think it is possible for a 3rd world country national to get a remote based dev job in the USA. I think the only way to get a job in the US is me being present there, physically.
My job definitely can be done remotely, but we are so short staff they haven't converted us over. Really annoying but I just got a CS degree. I'm hoping to stay in the medical field but in IT position because I'm in a government job but if not I'll venture out. I'm trying to be patient though.

If this guys says "IT jobs are you're kind of waiting for something wrong to happen ...", he basically acknowledges that he has no clue what the majority of IT people are actually doing on a day-to-day basis... Far less than 10% of IT staff in any organization are on call to fix some problem (bug). The vast majority of IT staff on call are busy handling all kinds of service requests, like answering questions, new employees needing IT facilities to work, revoke permission to access systems of colleagues who left the organization, requests for something new, more, etc., but that's not fixing "problems".

Depends on industry. Game dev is awful, low pay and long hours plus most companies layoff a mass amount of employees once a project is finished. Film can have good pay but same thing, long hours and layoff once project is completed, unless you are part of that core team. I’d suggest looking into ArchViz. It’s hard to get into a firm, however if you have great chops, vast software skills and enjoy design, then you can make a good career out of it.

You can make really good money, on average not as much as in tech sales but still really great skillset. Healthcare sales focuses a lot more on education and being a resource for docs etc whenever they need you. Medical Liaison is one great example, I almost went down this path myself. In terms of being scalable, I've met MLs that make over a million a year, but it's pretty rare. There are a lot of other career paths you can move into from those roles that make a lot more money though.
