I don't know about you guys but i was awed by chris broderick's guitar!!!, that thing is one of the most beautiful guitars i have ever seen and it is also a shredding machine. I MUST HAVE ONE!!!!!!!!!
Cool video. This makes me miss James big time. Washington is Next has a sick ass bassline. At least it was David who came to Megadeth. Good to have him back. PS: Chris is a beast.
Hi Larry, I love how every artist you interview starts talking about the pickups they use and they end up getting all excited and desperate for playing to demonstrate how it sounds like that they actually do it before even finishing what they were talking about. That's what we call Larry DiMarzio's Magic. Thanks for everything.
Chris' signature pickups are only available on his Jackson guitars. The bridge pickup is pretty similar to a D Activator bridge model, and the neck pickup to a PAF Pro.
I've been using Dimarzio Paf Pro's for 15 years! Totally dig that fact that no matter how fast and brutal I play you can hear every note independently without and mud or bleeding together.
The bridge pickup has a fair resemblance to the D Activator bridge model in terms of output and overall tone. The neck pickup is fairly similar to a PAF Pro.
the only thing that bothers me about chris is that we all say he is one of the most technichal players(which is true) but he has a hard time playing his own solos perfectly at live performances :/ but he is still a beast!
Paul has used many different types of pickups in the time we have worked with him. You might be able to get a similar sound with D Activators, depending on the guitar and amp you have.
What an amazing guitar Chris has! Or... had?? Does anyone know why or how he ended up as a Jackson endorsee after Ibanez crafted an epic axe like that for him which is clearly a custom?
RolanTHUNDER He said there was certain things he wanted as part of his guitar that Ibanez didn't want to do, and Jackson was a lot more open to what he could add to his signature with them. So that's why he's with Jackson nowadays.
RolanTHUNDER Not sure as to the specifics but I guess you could go look at the differences between his signature models and what's new on the Jackson model is what Ibanez wouldn't do.
ibanez really needs to make a chris broderick signature model if they ever did i would be the first one to buy it.. the guitar in the video is SEXY!!!!!!
@elementskater94 The tightest 7-string pickup we make is the D Activator 7 neck model. It can also be used in the bridge position if clarity is the quality you're looking for.
@tubaeli93 You can order a PAF Pro with chrome polepieces from any DiMarzio dealer. It needs to be a special order because the standard polepieces are black. You can also remove the rust with naval jelly.
looks like this was right around when James left Warwick and was using fenders and esp/ltd before he got with Yamaha I credit DiMarzio for such killer pickups in my Jackson and my Music Man Stingray 5
TheSlenderBassist how do the dimarzio's sound in the jackson? also did you change the pre amp? I have a new ellefson signature 5 string with the emgs and it sounds great but never heard dimarzio bass pickups
@LarryDiMarzio ya its a custom rga 7 with a painted bolt on neck and d-activators and a reversed headstock essentially an rg1527Z with a reversed headstock and d-activators in fact he used the rg1527Z before he got his custom guitar and no its not for sale yet
@Dan42684 Chris still uses DiMarzios, he used Bare Knuckles before DiMarzios. He said he changed because the D-Activators had the exact specs he needed in a pickup.
@JAAM013 i`d love to know where you found that out, he still uses that ibanez, live and everywhere, he could have a jackson guitar, but in his guitar review, he has like 4 guitars total, 2 ibanez guitars for live, 1 for dressing room, and 1 for the studio
You want Crunch? DiMarzio (literally) has a 'Crunch' Humbucker called the Crunch Lab (John Petrucci uses this p'up on his 6 and 7 strings). As for the others, Try the True Velvet coil (center) in the center and the Air Norton S in the neck position. I thought I'd answer since Larry hasn't. This is a great combination for what you are looking for.
@BobsOldSocks Hi, DiMarzio pickups are available nation wide. If you prefer the internet shopping try Musician's Friend or Sam Ash. If you prefer a local dealer, please go to dimarzio.com , then click on PICKUPS, then Humbuckers then D Activator and you can find a location. Hope that helps, Larry DiMarzio
@TheBLOODLINEmusic According to Mustaine, LoMenzo actually wanted out, but said he would stay on for another album after Endgame if necessary, then the opportunity for Ellefson to rejoin came up after Shawn told Ellefson that LoMenzo wanted out.
Thanks! How would D Activators sound in a Les Paul? Good? Bad? What pickup would you suggest. I need low end, warm, yet powerful with great harmonic response. Thanks again DiMarzio
@iGuitarGuru A D Activator bridge model should be good in the bridge position, but you might try a Breed neck model in the neck if you want a warmer tone.
hello there. i currently have a dean, set neck mahogany bodied flying v with two cheap humbucking pickups. the pickups that come with the guitar dont have enough output and clarity for droptuning. i want to put a crunch lab in the bridge and a liquifier in the neck.would these pickups be a good match?
@psalvacion Sorry, but that will not change the sound. Your guitar is not identical in terms of construction to Chris' guitar, and it will make a difference, as will your choice of amplifiers. You should also be aware that Chris's neck pickup has much more similarity to a PAF Pro than to a D Activator neck model.
I'm confused, someone explain this to me. I know that Ellefson is back, but did James quit or did David say, "oh, Mustaine, kick out LoMenzo, I wanna come back to Megadeth"? Cuz idk why James would quit, like right before a tour, 3 tours actually.
@kevenharbour I'd suggest an Agile Interceptor Pro 7-string. The trans-black ones look a lot like Chris' RGA7, but with a flamed top instead of a quilted top.
I am in a bit of conflict of whether a D Activator X neck or a Liquifire neck would go well with a Seymour Duncan Distortion TB6 and will it be balanced? I like to play soaring leads and solos yet still have lots of power to play some Metal, like Testament, Artillery, and Symphony X.
The first song is Washington is Next, not Head Crusher! :)
Thank you James LoMenzo. You were great in Megadeth.
This dude just rejoined this year
@@trentthehandrocker1292 thanks soo much for pointing out the obvious.
@@trentthehandrocker1292 that’s a 12 year old comment bro
James is the best bassist
james is a fantastic bass player and was a great backup vocal also when he was in the band!
Glad to have him back again //,,//
These guys are some of the most humble musicians out there. They are also extremely talented musicians.
Chris was pretty sloppy here tho
And finally he is in the band
is just me or James LOmenzo's voice sounds similar to Dave Mustaine?
It's the accent, all Americans sound the same
dave mustaine dubbed his voice over james'
Yes.....even I was surprised
A lot!
Very
Love the obvious respect from James as Chris breaks down the theory
This guitar is an Ibanez RG custom just made for The amazing Chris Broderick!!
I wish i had that guitar, its so beautiful!!!
James Lomenzo. I will always follow your work!
I don't know about you guys but i was awed by chris broderick's guitar!!!, that thing is one of the most beautiful guitars i have ever seen and it is also a shredding machine. I MUST HAVE ONE!!!!!!!!!

Great musicians. Great album. Great insight.
The whole iron maiden thing in this is nice.
he play so clean..strong fingers he got
Welcome james to Megadeth again
Chris makes it so easy!!! james will be missed
Chris' signature pickups are only available on his Jackson guitars. The bridge pickup is pretty similar to a D Activator bridge model, and the neck pickup to a PAF Pro.
I love James just fiddling around on his bass the whole time, that's just like me.
I've been using Dimarzio Paf Pro's for 15 years! Totally dig that fact that no matter how fast and brutal I play you can hear every note independently without and mud or bleeding together.
I've always viewed James as a bassist iron maiden influenced. looks like he could fit right in
This is exactly how I wanna play guitar!!
The bridge pickup has a fair resemblance to the D Activator bridge model in terms of output and overall tone. The neck pickup is fairly similar to a PAF Pro.
the only thing that bothers me about chris is that we all say he is one of the most technichal players(which is true) but he has a hard time playing his own solos perfectly at live performances :/

wow Broderick is using a 7 string guitar. thats so awesome!

Tarkess Good idea. I'll take a look.
phantomofoaktown good point. never thought about that...
@iGuitarGuru
Yes. With any Les Paul made after 1999, the neck pickup should be standard-spaced and the bridge pickup should be F-spaced.
esos weyes
si armaran una banda seria todo un exito
son muy buenos los 2
:D
am i the only one who loves the headcrusher solo ?
wow that guy realy renewed a lot my fogotten respect for Bass!
Hi, The D Activator (470 mV) and the Liquifire are about (300 mV) will balance well together.
Hope that helps,
Larry DiMarzio
ibanez really needs to make a chris broderick signature model if they ever did i would be the first one to buy it.. the guitar in the video is SEXY!!!!!!
@elementskater94
The tightest 7-string pickup we make is the D Activator 7 neck model. It can also be used in the bridge position if clarity is the quality you're looking for.
hes the chef of solos he added the hungarian minor "just for flavor"
Headcrusher sure has some changes here and there
@tubaeli93
You can order a PAF Pro with chrome polepieces from any DiMarzio dealer. It needs to be a special order because the standard polepieces are black. You can also remove the rust with naval jelly.
he does, i never realized that, but when he started talking and the endgame picture was covering the whole screen, i thought it was dave speaking
metalhead4195, What kind of fingers is Chris using? That's the main question :)
Woah, Chris keeps his pick taped to his thumb :o
@darkteo4
It's a custom guitar Ibanez made for Chris. I don't think they are available for sale.
hello.. i have an ibanez RG 350, its H-S-H... do you think that the D Activator will work well in the split-coil positions? middle/bridge..
When he brakes down the endgame solo it sounds like a cooking show.
it sounds like hes cooking when hes explaining the solo
funny that headcrusher sounds exactly like washington is next :D
that ibanez of chris's is awesome
looks like this was right around when James left Warwick and was using fenders and esp/ltd before he got with Yamaha

Holy crap, James sounds so much like Dave, he could probably step in if Dave had a sore throat and they wouldn't miss a step.
Lomenzo lays down some sweet-ass funk
That vein's gonna pop aaaaany moment now!
He said he changed because the D-Activators had the exact specs he needed in a pickup.
if Broderick ever leaves megadeth is going to be hard to find someone that can play the endgame solos
Kiko hasn’t played a single one to this day.. you may be right.
That ibanez is flawlessly good looking
@JAAM013 i`d love to know where you found that out, he still uses that ibanez, live and everywhere, he could have a jackson guitar, but in his guitar review, he has like 4 guitars total, 2 ibanez guitars for live, 1 for dressing room, and 1 for the studio
Either choice should be OK, depending on the specific guitar and amp you play.
Especially with the P style bass

@Guitarstring187
The Pro Track (DP188) is a Strat-sized humbucker that's pretty similar to the PAF Pro. It might be a good choice if you have a Strat.
Thanks! How would D Activators sound in a Les Paul? Good? Bad? What pickup would you suggest. I need low end, warm, yet powerful with great harmonic response. Thanks again DiMarzio
Damn I always thought Lomenzo was a pickstyle player.
this is bad ass ...thanks for another larry
3:56 is like the intro of Public enemy No. 1
@iGuitarGuru
A D Activator bridge model should be good in the bridge position, but you might try a Breed neck model in the neck if you want a warmer tone.
that guy has a muscle the size of my head XD
Google guys, its not hard.
Its a custom guitar but you can get simlar guitars in an ibanez 420z
@Toma4449 - James left? So Dave is back for good and not just for the Killing Road tour?
Well they have one of the best Megadeth albums under their belt. So maybe this lineup was underrated.
Drover and James were a better duo
@@RichardGarcia93 Shawn sucks by megadeth standards
@@RichardGarcia93 dirk is way better
Thank You, now I'm decided, it helped a lot
Lomenzo is so cool!
i want that guitar! plus i lol at how chris is like, "this is hungarian gypsy minor sharp 11 falt" or what ever and James is like, "what the hell???"
What exact Model is this ibanez? looks absolutely beautiful.
lol, broderick sounds like a cook on a talkshow explaining a meal when he explains headcrusher! :D
Lol at 4:14 look at James face ," DAMM he's good... i need to practice " xD
hello there. i currently have a dean, set neck mahogany bodied flying v with two cheap humbucking pickups. the pickups that come with the guitar dont have enough output and clarity for droptuning. i want to put a crunch lab in the bridge and a liquifier in the neck.would these pickups be a good match?
without a doubt, Im an ESP man but those RGAs are fine as hell
Well, my Rig is just a Jackson JS32R and a Line 6 Spider IV with a MXR CUSTOM BADASS '78 Distortion pedal with a slight bit of Reverb.
chris is a beast!!!
Hey Larry,
What are pickups in Chris' Jackson modeled after? Also what are the output levels?
Thanks!
Was James a part of the Nelson duo back in the 80's?
J/K.
An F-spaced D Activator bridge model for the bridge position and an F-spaced LiquiFire for the neck could be good.
man look at chris b's biceps lol. best guitarist ever
@psalvacion
Sorry, but that will not change the sound. Your guitar is not identical in terms of construction to Chris' guitar, and it will make a difference, as will your choice of amplifiers. You should also be aware that Chris's neck pickup has much more similarity to a PAF Pro than to a D Activator neck model.
What tipe of pickup do you recomend for a Jackson JS-1 ? I play metal, by the way
I'm confused, someone explain this to me.
The trans-black ones look a lot like Chris' RGA7, but with a flamed top instead of a quilted top.
the end of the video is when they do the head crusher part
@hetfield2x4
Yeah, in the intro. at the end they break down the Head Crusher solo.
Maestros!!!!
go to 4:26 they have done a head crusher breakdown there.
@ezurcher1 I know right!? I pray that they make that a signature series at some point in the future...and a six string version too.
Why does the title say "Chris broderick and James LoMenzo"? Only thing I see is awesome Ibanez and a huge bicep. That thing is the size of my head!
@LarryDiMarzio its an ibanez prestige, chris broderick model.
the first song is WASHINGTON IS NEXT! isn't "HEAD CRUSHER"
awesome, lol James LoMenzo sounds like Dave Mustaine lol
I am in a bit of conflict of whether a D Activator X neck or a Liquifire neck would go well with a Seymour Duncan Distortion TB6 and will it be balanced? I like to play soaring leads and solos yet still have lots of power to play some Metal, like Testament, Artillery, and Symphony X.
@Novaslaskballz well at the end they do the ending to headcrusher so thats why it says that
