- The entire household is fighting or running from back-to-back colds but I figured I'd pop on real quick before bed and play some stuff. Did you know this is the first time I've actually played through Metal Slug 6? I mean I know I look like an expert MS6 player in this footage, but hey, it just comes natural to some people.

The most interesting thing about the Master System/Mark III is the FM sound unit. What an amazing piece of tech.

Fucking around in retro video games is my favorite thing. Recently got one of them retroid pockets and I love shuffling my rom list on random and seeing what adventures I'll find!
Been having an awful night and morning with massive RA flaring.
All i wanted and was planning to do was play some of my back log today. Been rather sour that i cant function walk or hold a controler rather than play one. I can type with a pointy finger and listen to videos on my phone.
Jeff thank you for doing this today. Your NES journey has been RX for me and today this will do. Know that even though you are also ill.

Hey I also have pain in my hands after playing video games, not fun, but heres what I do when that happens:
-joycons are probably the most comfortable and most versatile controller because you can hold them in any position, have you tried that? Or maybe one of those 8bitdo controllers
-recently got a handheld Gameboy that can emulate many retro systems called a miyoo mini plus, easy to hold even with one hand
-if you can type with a pointy finger you can probably touch virtual buttons on a phone and emulate that way. Alternatively! There are apps where your phone can become a controller for anything and connects via wifi/Bluetooth. Latency might be an issue here, but better than nothing?

@Explicitnice Hey! So I have on Xbox the elite controller and the under neath flippers and remapping has been a godsend. On my Ps5 ( became my predominant platform I habe backlog on) I don't have anything fancy. Haven't checked out the options such as their first party elite level controller. Ya know I'll check out in the world
8 bit so IA great idea. This past weekend my right trigger finger and thumb was most flaring so that did me in.

100% sympathy for you Jeff! My daughter caught a cold at a play group recovered and then I got it and 3 weeks later here I still up, utterly in the pits worn out and still have a cold.
Side note watching gb dudes fuck around on retro games also happens to be my favorite as well, imagine that!
I had the Playstation version of Metal Slug X, It had a mode where you had to complete the game on a single life. Furthest I ever made it was level 5. Other than the loading screens between levels, I remember it being a pretty solid version of the game.
I too, have a cold or something else starting with C. This is cathartic.
i love the sprite work on those metal slug games, but damn are they hard as shit, We cant all be pro gamers like Jeff, but thats why its fun to watch you play very well. Hope you and your family feel better.
Man, the Phantasy Star Online soundtrack is one of my favorites of all time. I nearly get chills anytime I start hearing all the different sound effects and songs from it.
Forest 1 music is maybe the most nostalgic thing in my life.
Hope you feel better soon! Kids definitely bring on the germs. I've been in the ER three times in the last 12 months and two of those times were due to viruses the kids gave me. I'm jealous how resilient the young ones are with illness.

Not surprised you struggled with the brain robot boss in MS6. It's considered one of the most unfair bosses not just in that game but in the series at large.
The genesis kid gave me his SMS back in the day - no Awesome Memories of it, but I used to beat Rocky while waiting for the school bus. Some games being on cards was probably the most interesting thing about it. Plugged it in with the power button in the On position once and that was it, pop and no more SMS.

Hitoshi Sakimoto is my favorite video game composer. I was thinking the soundtrack in this game (the orchestral sections) sounds quite a bit like his style. It turns out the composer of this game, formed basicscape along with hitoshi sakimoto. For reference, Hitoshi Sakimoto has done games like vagrant story and radiant silvergun.

Ah og PSO. I need to check out Blue Burst sometime since it has an entire episode that wasn't on consoles.
I've started a new character in Skyrim on every console imaginable, and never finished any of them. Some day.
JEFF! Please fight the urge to move on to the Master System after you complete the ranking of NES library. Otherwise I will be an old man by the time you get to the good stuff like Genesis and SNES! 😀 Better yet, have a vote/poll on what to do after NES....if the people want SMS, I guess I'll have to live with that.

....and it's a Dig Dug clone of all things
PSO on the Dreamcast was legendary! I used to log on using my local public library ISP credentials on 56k. I would "Dupe" rare items like Heavens Punishment.... good times with friends!

11:37 on the Wii, we could never get past that boss. There were not infinite continues in that version lol
That said, we were able to beat MS 1 2 and 3!

You know if you play PSO on Ephinea you never have to lose your character again! Ironically I think it's the best way to play solo as they have a shared bank system and they made all missions solo-able. No more doors that require multiple people to stand on switches at the same time. There is also a Lutris script for Ephinea and it's smooth as eggs on the Deck at 3-4 watts.
Time to sit back and relax on the rocket lawn chair.
If you don't know NFL Blitz 99 is the game Jeff is the most skilled at, you just haven't been paying attention.

So do we know why Quest: Fantasy Challenge was a Mr. Do ripoff? Everything I've found written about it online says "it's just Mr. Do!" but I can't find an explanation.

Jack Reacher is a decent series. If you can get pass the eye-rolling story contrivance that drives the main plot.
All the post-bankruptcy Metal Slug games feel bootleggy as hell. They lack the same visual cohesion, didn't push the series forward visually or mechanically and feel all-around hacky. The shadows in 6 look fucking weird.
