    Wow, you are amazing! I can't wait to be at this point in my riding journey! I am volunteering at a rescue for OTTBs in my area, and I am about to start riding some of the off the track horses!! I can't wait to work with amazing horses like this one. I know that with helping them grow I will also get to as a rider. You have inspired me to work with OTTBs and now I think my first horse will end up being an OTTB.

    Geez why are there so many critical comments? Like guys, YOU try having perfect eq all the time on a super green ottb that’s only just learning. Literally even if you are the best rider in the world, you’re still not going to be perfect all the time. I think she’s been doing amazing with him especially when he’s not the quickest learner🥰🥰keep it up steph love you sm

    Such an awesome job with this guy! He looks amazing at the end, such a relaxed, brave jumper! And when he started getting into frame for you about 5 minutes in, he realllyyy looked so much better, like a different horse! Very cool seeing his transformation!
    So fast too to do this much with him!

    Omg you did such a great job!! One of the things I found that really helped my ottb was having him watch some of the veteran jumpers at his stables. He was a little insecure when we first started but then one week I showed up and he started flying over the jumps out of nowhere and when I asked the owner if anything was done differently she said “other than switching his stall, no.” Then I realized his new stall had a clear view of the bigger practice jumping ring as to where before it overlooked the pasture and I’m positive that with his competitive personality he saw those big jumpers and probably thought “I wanna do that!” Lol

      Something good you can use to get you horse to stretch and bend around is draw reins. There is also different amounts of pressure you can use with you hands to get them to stretch. Usually with getting my horse to accept the big and teaching horses to accept the bit I just use treats lol but I know there are other ways to do it.

      Try to focus on your seat more and make sure the saddle fits well that helps them engage their back more and makes them want to stretch down

    I have to laugh because I just love how people internet train. If you could train horses from a computer there would be no reason to leave the house.
    Stephanie I am sure you know what your doing. You know your horses. People need to stop being internet trainers. Uuugh

    You did an amazing job! Not hate at all, but is there any reason why you look as though your shoulders are hunched and are leaning forward? I used to lean forward but only when someone corrected me did I realise, it’ll help you become more secure in the saddle unless there is any reason why you would be in pain? Xx

      Montythetbequine 13 She’s riding in a position called half seat :) it keeps her more off the horse and allows the horse to lift up more easily and some horses prefer that lighter seat👍

    I'm asking this out of genuine curiosity, please dont feel like I'm being mean!! But why do you lean forward over the trot poles like you did when you first took him over? Is there any particular reason? I'm considering leasing a young horse so im looking at OTTB videos for training ideas!! I loved seeing his transformation x

      it was likely to get off his back so he could figure out his legs :) it also introduced him to the feeling of a two point over fences.

    do you ever do hacks with them to let them naturally lift their feet and walk up and downhill etc?

    • @StephaniePrince
      @StephaniePrince  6 років тому +7

      Tilda Josefsson what do you mean naturally lift their feet? their feet always move naturally as i do not force them into any position. all of my horses carry and use themselves correctly so i am not sure what that part of your question is supposed to mean. as to the other part, i don’t have a great place to do hill work anymore but if i still has it then i would still use it.

    how much do you change to train horses like this?

  • @rhea5170
    @rhea5170 6 років тому +1

    I’m not trying to criticize but my trainer shouts at me for it so I was just wondering why don’t you go in sitting trot before the canter. Is it because he’s really bouncy in the extended trot or....?

    • @StephaniePrince
      @StephaniePrince  6 років тому +5

      Equestrian Rhea if you watched the video the whole way through, you can see the difference in how i ride him as he becomes stronger and more balanced. but i assume you have only seen the beginning part of the video and are referring to the times i first started cantering him. ottb’s coming just off the track have trouble picking up their canter because they’re learning a whole new way of going being a riding horse and not a race horse. when they are so green you just have to get the job done. it will not be pretty when they are just learning but it has to start somewhere. when they understand your aids and what you are wanting then you can start polishing and go to a more “correct” ride.

    • @equinejamielynn7552
      @equinejamielynn7552 5 років тому

      DLYNN she probably was just having trouble relaxing because the horse is probably a really bunny ride cause of how he’s built if she rode him longer then she would find her position on him. But since she’s new she is still trying to figure him out , I do think she sits way forward and doesn’t put enough weight in her heals to make her sit the canter more

    • @saracastro5416
      @saracastro5416 5 років тому +2

      You don’t need to point out what she did wrong. She did what she did for a reason. Don’t judge people based on just a video. Have you watch her other videos? She looks better in those videos because she isn’t riding a horse that in unfamiliar to her. So, you don’t need to judge her based on what she looks like riding a unfamiliar horse.
