    This is the best video on Nagasaki I’ve seen so far! I’m going to be in Japan for a good part of winter and have been thinking about spending Christmas in Nagasaki because of its Christian and European history. This is so helpful!

    Lime green suitcases are perfect when traveling through developing countries or dense urban centers since they stand out and thus are more immune to luggage theft. Next time go check out Huis Ten Bosch about an hour away where they have fiets that allow you to rent 2-person bikes to explore the Disney-fied version of a Dutch landscape complete with a Miffy store. Great job with the editing and b roll footage BTW.

    Thank you for introducing me to the wonderful Nagasaki. I think there is nothing more beautiful than a city rich in history😀
    And please take care of yourself. Kyushu has wonderful hot springs, perfect for soothing your body and mind♨️
    In addition, Kyushu has convenient highways that start from Fukuoka and make it convenient to travel to various regional cities. However, the roads in Japan are narrow, so be careful when driving a camper van in urban areas. please. I sincerely hope that you continue good your journey. God bless you.

    If I'm able to work Nagasaki into our trip this spring, what are the top 3 things you would recommend we see if we can only stay for a half of a day?
    We plan to drive from Fukuoka to Kumamoto and I hope to work Nagasaki into our day.

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  Місяць тому

      Nagasaki in a half day would be so hard to decide on! I would focus on what your priority is. The Atomic bomb area is set back from the water and would maybe take a half day itself, if you take time and see the museum and nearby sights. Or you could do Dejima, Glover Garden, and the Dutch slope in one ambitious day. I'd try to do a full day if you can. Nagasaki remains one of our top favorite cities in Japan!

    It's a good idea to rent a car to travel around Kyushu. It's just what I did a several years ago. I first left Fukuoka by train to visit Hita City and then to Yufuin, where I rented a car to visit many places in Miyazaki Prefecture and Kagoshima. Many sightseeing spots worth visiting in Miyazaki and Kagoshima are quite distant from each other, so it's much quicker to go around by driving a car.

    Kasutera is a Western Style cake brought by the Portuguese to Japan through Nagasaki, and it's widely sold in Japan. The name of the cake originally comes from the name of the country in Portuguese which the cake came from, which is the present-day Spain.

    The Portuguese were the first Europeans in Japan, they were in Japan in the 1500's, they brought technologies such as firearms, the Catholic religion and the word "Arigato" comes from the Portuguese "OBRIGADO".

    The place I want you to visit the most in Nagasaki is the "26 Martyrs of Japan Memorial". People in Europe and the Americas hated Japan because of this incident, and have repeatedly waged war against it as an evil country. This is also connected to the dropping of the atomic bomb. I hope you will study about the 26 Martyrs. You will understand the cruelty of the Japanese, but I also want you to know that there were other religions and people in power who were giving instructions behind the scenes.

    How did Clover Gardens survive the atomic bomb?

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  2 місяці тому +1

      Great question! Glover Garden has a view over the water. The Atomic Bomb in Nagasaki missed its original target, or Glover Garden wouldn't have survived. It detonated a little further inland, so Glover Garden and other buildings in the area weren't damaged by the atomic bomb.

    I heard that Westerners eat hamburgers, fries, fried chicken, Coke, sandwiches, coffee, pasta, pizza, hotdog, steak cereal, bread, and milk for three meals a day. Is this true? Or do Americans and Europeans eat differently?

    • @TalesFromOurPocket
      @TalesFromOurPocket  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi! I would say that the typical American and European do eat differently. And many Americans do have a diet similar to what you describe, but not us! I (Heather) really hate hamburgers, tolerate sandwiches and hot dogs, only drink Coke or eat fried chicken while traveling, and only eat steak a few times a year. I do drink coffee every day and have cereal for breakfast (Bill enjoys oatmeal every day). We prefer to grill or roast things instead of frying them, and enjoy cooking international flavors when at home, even if they're not "authentic".
      Hot take - Japan and Korea have exponentially better fried chicken than the US! 😊

    Opinion - I think it's weird you start talking about a building and then show nothing about that building only the views from the building....how about we show the building you just spoke about? Very confusing video editing....pretty sure it's GLOVER like GLOVE not GLOW-VER.
    I sit here and think I am way too far from my home in Nagasaki. Thanks for the video. Should have named the bag Matcha!

    なぜ長崎は西洋文明の影響を受けたのでしょうか。この二人はあまり知識人ではないようです。長崎の「出島」のことを知らないのでしょう。手づかみが失礼なことで恥ずかしいというけれど、人が行きかう公共の道端に座り込んで食品を食べることには恥ずかしい意識はないようです。😅
