Welcome Back To The PA28| Falling Leaf Stall

  • Gareth has spent a long time trying to sort out the situation with his medical certificate and finally the end to that battle is in sight. He has been flying a Cessna 172 a lot with myself and our friend Otto recently, but doesn't like it as he is much more familiar with a PA28. We took a flight to see how he felt about continuing his training in N32042, a PA28 regularly seen on my channel. What better way to get comfortable than to do a falling leaf stall!
Enjoy the falling out of the sky

I stumbled across this video and almost instantly recognized the tail number. I had been doing flight training in a PA 140 but that needed extended maintenance and I had to switch to this plane only days before my checkride! I only managed to scrape 6 hours in 32042 before my checkride, but didn't manage to get familiar enough with a Warrior to do my preflight and short fields down. I made a bad decision to fly midday along the beach with 15+ kt crosswinds. Failed the first round, needless to say. 2nd time around, I was a lot more proficient in the plane, and it's a legend. Brought back memories to see the Warrior. Good video!

We have been treated with yet another top quality LewDix production. Some jolly good flying from Gaz and I'm also pleased no one was killed. Good stuff.

Great demo on positive static stability!
In these stable trainers, all one has to do is relax and stop over compensating with pilot induced inputs.

I was lucky enough to be a passenger with someone who was licenced to do aerobatics, we did this one, it was an exhilarating sensation, falling out of the sky, the engine silent!! We did many different manoeuvres, going upside down several times. Loop-the-loop was interesting, the G force made me go blind momentarily. My legs felt like jelly for a while when we were back on the ground. Good stuff!!

I am a filmmaker and flying enthusiast (Only simulation so far) but I really enjoy your videos. They are full of life and humour and contain great tips for flying whether real or simulated. Personally though I would refrain from adding many external short clips that are supposed to comment or add humour. Too many people are already doing that and really your videos are great without them. Your own cracks with your students are hilarious. You don’t need anything else. Camera wise I would add a front looking view sometimes if you have the budget :-)

PPL update lesson 3: After slow flight and stalls during the previous lesson, I practiced the four fundamentals, steep turns, and looked for a good place for ground reference maneuvers for the next lesson. Landing was better this time, even though there was a slight cross wind - I did flair a bit high but held it off and allowed the plane to touch down gently on centerline. Will focus on looking halfway down the runway next-time instead of the very end or as I did in my first landing right in-front of the plane.

Kevin watched your video this morning before I did....Guess what he had us practice today??? Falling Leaf!!! lol Talk about a leg workout. It's definitely a bit scary at first but you are so worried about keeping it level going back and forth you don't even have time to think about anything else! Can't wait to see the full video of us together in the sky!!!

Kind of like me trying to do any stall when solo with half tanks. Just pulling full-back forever waiting for a gust to push the AoA over that last 2 degrees.

Asked my instructor today if we could try the "falling leaf" stall. He hadn't heard it called that, but he knew what was meant by it. Wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Good practice. Love the PA28, just don't love the 42 year old seat cushion.
