As George Carlin once said "You must be a sleep to believe in the American Dream"
Seems you can even get better rich in these "evil socialist country" than in the "Land of the Free" :
Where in the world is it easiest to get rich? | Harald Eia | TEDxOslo
ua-cam.com/video/A9UmdY0E8hU/v-deo.html
thats really the last nail in the coffin of the "American Dream" for me.
And George was right😂😂 rip George Carlin, 🙏
George Carlin had a whole of a lot more to say about Americans and America and he made a lot of valid points with his intellect and usual flawless logic! ..
By reputation the Dutch are very direct so i don't think he was bigging himself up, just being direct and honest.
The 'direct' thing here has become a tiresome self-fulfilling prophecy stereotype. Everyone can give it, but no-one can take it. I see it as a social handicap, most other places have a developed sense of tact.
@@baronmeduse I don't fully agree with that,
There is a difference between being direct and being plain rude. We don't like to beat around the bush. That's just a social thing here.
And yes.... we have a lot of a-holes as well.... 🤷🏻♂ Guess what. We're not living on some isolated island.
@@dutchladylover Ja, er is wel een verschil tussen direct zijn en onbeleeft zijn, maar veel nederlanders kennen het niet.
@@baronmeduse En dat noemen we dus gewoon: onbeschofte horken! 🤪
@@baronmeduseveel?😂
There are no Dutch Europeans, we are not all from the same poul. Europe is a geographical continent and not a federal state like the US. We Dutch stand our own ground, with our own customs, language, laws, culture and morals. We are not Europeans like Americans are Americans, referring to the continent.
Europe is not a identity of its own.
Racism does exist everywhere, thats true but there is a big difference between people being racist and systemic racism.
We have that here too. Both of it.
The problem with just having 2 parties is it almost becomes like a football game. You cheer for your own team but hate the opposing team. Most european countries have more than 2 political parties. Which makes politics less divided
In the Netherlands we have 15 different parties in the parliament at this moment.
The downside to having many political parties and candidates is that you can have someone win an election with like 20% of the total vote. Can 20% of the electorate represent the will of the whole country?
@@BryanWhite77 The thing with democracy is that the majority rules. Doesn't matter if 2nd place has 19% of the votes. I still think that is a better system than "Do you like applies, yes or no?"
@@oneandzero6251 The USA is not a democracy because the Founders knew that "majority rules" can be a dangerous thing. We are a Constitutional Republic.
@@BryanWhite77 GL and HF in your country :-)
I think cheerleaders are a bit more frowned upon in general because the highest goal for high school girls is to be pretty and as such be a side dish to a men's event. Not that we are all hardcore feminists here but that's a bit too sexist for the middle ground here.
There are beauty standards here too but they are bit more diverse I guess, thin, curvacious, tall, short, dark, red, I think there is deeper cultural idea that it's good that not everybody has the same taste in beauty so they are not all chasing the same girl/boy and therefore everybody can find someone to love. Culturally there is also a deep sense that nature and the body will sort things out and medical procedures are great, but only in case of trouble, so cosmetic surgery doesn't fit in as well as in the much more medicalized USA. Dutch doctors for example will state that "pregnancy is not a medical condition" and we have a lot of, well assisted, home births. So putting a knife in a healthy body is not as self-evident.
15 minuets in before the first YAWN ! is that a record ?
I generally have that around the 60 second mark, but then my heart says, give them a chance maybe they've got better, but at the 90 second mark the brain says ... Nahhh
Yeah, Football in Europe is war sometimes. Depending on who is playing; When 2 rival teams have a game (we call it a Derby), its going crazy. There is always so much police involved to keep the city safe...
The Netherlands is founder of New Amsterdam (New York). So our connection is very strong.
Female body image is a thing in Europe but probably not as extreme as in the US. But there is a Heidi Klum in Germany and afaik she is rather successful with her show "Germany's Next Top Model".
The thing is, those who don't travel or never been to the US get a very disturbed image of it due to all the shit they see in the news and other media. Good things or joyful events aren't covered so much by media as negative news, other then perhaps your local TV station. And if people do visit the US it's either Florida.... (exactly!) or the cities and highlights of the west and east coast. Europeans hardly ever meet Americans from let's say Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska or Montana and vice versa. I've met Americans from almost every state and can't say I found the people from a certain area of the US more friendly as in a different area, all are very friendly (certainly compared to European standards) and very helpful. They remind me of our neighbours to the east actualy, the equally very polite, friendly and helpful Germans.
I have not experienced any racism when I moved to the Netherlands about a year ago compared to my experience in Belgium. I am not saying there is not racism here because of course it is everywhere but compared to the US it seems to be two different worlds
Keep in mind this is filmed in a rather (sub)urban area, ask these questions in a more rural area or a city in the south, east or north of the country and you'll get quite different feedback. Europe and the Netherlands are as divided as the US.
The Netherlands isn't that divided, i think. At least not just 2 sided like the US in general.
@@jasper46985 Yes we are! Haven't seen the outcry when the PVV won the election? And no not two sided, we are even divided more due to the insane amount of political parties, at least in the US you're either 'blue' or 'red' or independent.
@@laziojohnny79 ofcourse i saw the outcry. That was but a subsection. The most political parties are so alike that we are not that divided. We still have the 'poldermodel' and have to work together. The Tweede Kamer is still the main source of law making. That tells me that they all still work together in groups depending on the subject they discuss.
@@jasper46985 Republicans and democrats do exactly the same in US. I was refering to the dividment among the people. Furthermore; right wing, left wing; same bird.
@@laziojohnny79 That's true, although i still think we are less divided overall.
Wow, half of the time I didn't need the subtitles to understand.
Body image ? yes it is also pushed here... Thx Murica XD
Jullie kijken verder dan je neus lang is. Goed zo!❤
About the astrology bit; the ages are aligned so that the Aries age is found from 2000 BC to AD 1(hence the rams horn in jewish culture), Pisces age AD 1 to AD 2000 (hence the fish symbols of christain culture), the Aquarian Age AD 2000 - AD 4000, and so on. And thus we've entered a new age around the changing of the millennium 23 years ago.
Of course it's pretty much all horse sh*t, but ifff of influence then surely that would be of greater impact.
What are Dutch Europeans and what should I think about someone writing such a thing?
Representative democracy is tricky at the best of times. A congress member is supposed to represent the best interests of the people in their district, regardless of political affiliation. But what happens when the people they represent want mutually exclusive things? One side or the other on a divisive issue is going to be let down. Since a politicians job depends on getting elected they tend to prioritize their actions to appease the groups who contribute the most to them and their re-election campaigns. The cost of campaigning ensures that politicians are forever looking to fill their coffers. So they pay attention to the wants and needs of those who fill them, and threaten to fund your opponents if you don't. That's largely why they bother with the "culture war" nonesence it's something they can use to rally the emotions of some voting blocks, but not something that will meaningfully impact the interests of their corporate contributors. Without it the voters might find their leaders' actions and inactions more conspicuous. If you want to know what an incumbent politician is about, look at their voting record; what they say openly to the public can be misleading.
I hear that you never reacted to the European footbal fan culture ? Do it.
🦶⚽... There are 14 teams in MLS(Major League Soccer) with FC (Football Club) in their name, and you still call it Soccer.. we call that hypocrite😂😂😂
David Clayton Thomas from Blood Sweat and Tears has a song called The Circus, you should watch the video.
Calling us "Dutch Europeans" is like we should call you "American North-Americans".
Nice video though!
What are "Dutch Europeans"? Are there "Dutch Asians", "Dutch Africans", "Dutch Americans", "Dutch Australians", ...?
i recommend switching the amount of breakfast serial choices with the amount of political party choices, but thats just me....and im a communist
So you chinese..😅
When the first comment was they live under a rock I had to laugh as I've been watching a lot of reactions to a very recent duet of a young pop singer and Placido Domingo, one of the world's most famous operatic Tenors.
European reactors regardless of age have all at least heard of Domingo but overwhelmingly American reactors don't have a clue who he is despite the fact that he's had a 60 year career and almost seem proud of the fact they don't know.
There are plenty of American artists that we in Europe haven't heard of either though. Also, you're talking about Opera. Not exactly the most popular music genre.
Nice to view ! 🇳🇱 4K NEMO Science Museum. The Netherlands, Amsterdam Walking Tour.
interactive, so (kids) can explore a lot themselves ! Warning ! some of the things they won't see in the USA ! 🤣😂😇
Your question concerning the Cheerleaders and the body image. If you walk through a city like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague you will prob notice that women are not dressed up and full of make-up. We are more into healthy way of living, good work life balance, family/friends and do sports you like. It is not normal here to have advertisements where you only see skinny woman. Or the cheerleaders, well we find it a bit sexualizing. Just to think about young woman dressing up with short skirts smiling , dancing before old and young men.... For us, it is weird. And yes, in the USA it is a sport, but here....nope. I know there are some cheerleader clubs/teams, but still not a big thing. And half naked girls on billboards, no we dont have it like in the US.
try and put rival teams supporters together and they will kill each other over here... hooligans are a big thing in the netherlands.... you 2 should react on a vid like that? :)
In England at football matches, you're seperated in the stadium. Then when leaving, the police will keep you seperated and direct you to different train stations.
They do that in the Netherlands too...in case they kill each other..
Happens pretty much everywhere in Europe, certainly at high-risk-mathes, however the 'problem' hasn't been eliminated, just replaced.
Here in the Netherlands we are required by law to have Health insurance if we want to work. And it used to be supervised by the goverment. But then some years ago, they decided to let the HC providers govern themselves. What a great idea that was. NOT !! Those providers are looking ar their American counterparts as their rolemodels. And that sucks. Also, those people describing Dutch character traits weren't bragging. That's how we are.
Our motto is "Doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg." Which sorta means: "Just act normally, that's crazy enough." We're direct yeah, but also down to earth. And Not obsessed with money and status.
is that so? maybe they are less busy with status, but everything in the netherlands is about money, you cant go a day in the 365 days, without hearing something about money, complaints about money, or in the government.
there is a reason why the Dutch been called cheapskates.
I have nothing with astrology, but your theory surrounding the change coming next 16 years does somewhat coincide with the idea of Strauss-Howe, where history repeats itself after 4 generations, relating to 80 years. We are currently in the crisis generation (the last one) and in the next 5 years or so, a new cycle is about to start. According to that theory it is ...
Nathaniel Drew has a nice take on this in his video about living in a bad time.
Just some food for thought.
What I am always very surprised about is how uninformed you Americans are about what is going on in your own country...I mean I am from Germany and even I know that Ron DeSantis is giving up and is out of the race as a candidate for the next election
We also have some Astrologist lvl 100 , in third eye mode here ,thats absolutly not an American thing. In germany its leagle to write any effectiveness on Globolie or other homeopathy bulshi... . But independent of that there are more behavior Changes in Bigger Cycles like 10, 15 or more Years than in 3 to 6 .An other thing is that People prefer in 30 Year cycles to live inside and than outside of Citys.
I liked your reaction. Weird video though. imho
Indigo child...
Good video but screen too small , thank you.
And screen tooo small 🤓
Racism is a human nature thing. Like you said, it's everywhere.
I think it has to do with oxytocine. It helps you identify with certain groups who are like you, both fysical and political or cultural and automatically you try to protect your group (wether it's a clan, tribe or chiefdom or whatever).
The perfect body syndrome is also a general thing, especially among young girls/women. And let's face it, if you want to sell a product and you can choose between a slender beautifull girl or some obese plain woman... Sex sells. 🤷🏻♂
No, racism is about making the most superficial of traits defining of being the other. That is a cultural thing that always has been and still is exceptionally strong in the USA.
@@DenUitvreter That may be true. don't know, but that doesn't mean it's a cultural thing only in North America.
It happens all over the world, in every country.
I've been to the US several times. Interacting with US people has mostly been positive. Nowadays the news about the USA in the global media is dominated by all the negative things. Politics, mass shootings, opiod crisis, Trump, inequality etc.. And above all: that things only get worse, also because a lot of people vote for politicians that simply don't care. The majority of Europeans do not understand. Indeed, probably the US empire needs a revolution, indifferent what Pluto tells us 😉.
Not a revolution, but education.
Football is in Europe more then a sport. It is also political. Some people will kill each other. Terrible. It happend more then once.
I'm dutch and will show some directness here. Your title is horrendous. In Europe we don't do that barbaric american tribalistic nonsense of saying "italian american" "irish american" "african american" or any of that nonsense. You're all americans. Same with Dutch Europeans.... we're dutch. it is that simple. same with Spain European or Italian European not being a thing. it is just Spain and Italian and nothing more. Start there and you'll reduce that childish nonsensical segregation that is plaguing the USA.
we have our own division over here, but it isn't remotely close to that extremist tribal childish "us vs them", you're either with us or against us mentality, as in the USA.
I am Dutch, but not European. Think before you write something. Did you not learn about the oversea territories?
Dutch "Europeans"😂😂😂😂😂
Florida Americans
California Americans
Illinois Americans
😂😂😂😂
The Netherlands is in Europe so yes Dutch people live in Europe...
Only USA people say Dutch "Europeans"
Even people in Africa with no education knows Dutch people are Europeans😂😂😂😂
React to ( american civil war simppyd 😂 )
Since the screen is so small i cannt read the subtitles, not good
Please care. And please vote. That the orange one won't have a chance. If you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for the rest of the world. 🙁
Why should I care?
please guys, get a visa and move around europe, or fck it , thailand, uk, south africa, australia, anywhere, just get out of the hell that is the usa, i cant spend more than 5 days in america, even in new york let alone indiana or texas .
Don't come to Australia unless you want to be homeless, no homes here...
as a dutchy i love trump. try to tell me biden or any democrate is better
America is a beautiful country, very nice people, but i dont want to live there, instead of the American Dream, we think it is a American Hell, the Health care system is bad, bad infrastructure, Less paid vacation day's, poorly regulated number of sick day's, to much homeless people. Even for a holiday i dont want to go to the USA, because i can't enjoy nature, when so many people are homeless and have no future. And i can't help them.
