It lets your enemies know your health status. Just like in a boss fight.😂
It is not your enemies, despite we don't know what the true use and meaning pf the display is, the given information is most likley for your comrades when for example in a battle to identify your status in case your are not able to tell. Maybe it is to visualize if the armor is functional or has malfunction, maybe it is to display the communcation and data transmission of the armor is functional.
Even in real life, all our electronics have external and internal digital, visual and optical status displays so the one's in charge or need to know, understand whats going on.

I always thought it was a chain code of some sort, incase he bumped into imperial stormtroopers or anyone involved with the empire they’d see the code and know he was working with them.
The logic is sound, but why would the armor's status be displayed on his chest where others but not himself could read it? Helmet display makes sense.
The same reason your blood type is displayed on dog tags. Its for a medic to see.To assist you if you're unconscious and cant communicate your status verbally. His helmet displays information he needs to know.
When you put it like that, it seems sort of dangerous to put it there.

@@michaeld2440 He explains in "TheTragedy" The amor was gifted to his father for his service in the Mandalorian civil war, so his armor would have indeed been designed for Mandalorians organized into large Armies with squads and Medics.
@@michaeld2440 Idk, not many people can take down boba fett. Even with a visual que for enemies to strike, he could still possibly use it as bait. I think what greg said made a lot of sense. He got his armour from jango who at one point fought along side other mandalorians. It wouldn't make much sense to cover it up, as much as you could use it as bait for anyone that understood. If someone was close enough to him to read what it said, I doubt they'd be alive anyway.
I've watched the old movies a bunch, played a fat amount of games. And some how I never even noticed that was an actual display until I watched that episode of mando 😂

I always thought they were the same 2 red lines as Bo-Katans armor. Never paid that close attention. Note those "red" lines are yellow for her and visable only on season 7 clone wars and rebels series...seems Mando tv-series neglected them.

It reminds me of a suit status display, similar to the oxygen bottle gauges a firefighter wears in the same place. For Boba's suit it would be to let other Mandalorian's know of his condition if he's unconscious or dead.
I actually saw the real Boba Fett suit in 1989 at the Marin County Fair with a lot of other Star Wars props and costumes George Lucas provided that weekend. From what I can remember, Boba's wrist armor also has data screens he can control his suit with and check suit diagnostics and such.

Status readout doesnt make sense. Not all Mando armor has it. It has to be specific to bounty hunting.
His gauntlets would be different. HUD's weren't around in the 80's.

Why would a bounty hunter display his life support system with LED lights towards his enemies?
thought the same thing, but the fett armor is old, from a time when mando's wouldn't show themselves for anything. Could be a lifesupport function to make sure the armor isn't removed unless very necessary.

Exactly, could be an external health status for other mandalorians to know if the individual wearer is alive and condition but also could be data/status transmission if the armor is functional and working. It even could be a registration display so Mandalorians or people that know what the digits mean who he is or where he belongs to.
I've seen external health/armor status similar to this in various variations in many movies their soldiers had this some sort of lighting display, digits or alike on their protective gear/armor/suit.

Wouldn't that be displayed in his helmet ? So that way the user could see the condition of the armour instead of having to look at the chest ?
I do think it's the user health display, it makes sense having it displayed over the heart as well
@@pirimoretukariri6256 The same could be said about the health status, but since helmet and armor can have a malfunction it isn't off to have a optical digital display that shows the status independent from each other in case one is damaged.
It doesn't mean that the wearer has to look at the chest, a generel external status bar can be there for his comrades to see and for himself when he doesn't wear the armor.
Like in the real world, we have all our devices wich serveral security checks to exclude malfunction and to point out the source of malfunction.
Maybe it is a multi display showing all informations, health, armor status etc scanning everything.

That would make Beskar an amalgam, So the suit is actually reading out the health of the armour

I feel like the version displayed on Jango's armor had a cover over the displays. It would make since that he doesn't want to display all the information that display can to his enemies, so he would have a cover over the display. Boba on the other hand clearly had the armor take damage and maybe lost the covers along the way, and just like he never/rarely restored the armor in any way before now just didn't get new covers for the displays.
I think it reads H=Human G=Green as in status is green. 28C= outside temperature is 28 degrees Celsius.

Every time we see the eights his helmet is taken off and I believe that without it it does not make a complete calculation. I also think if Bobba dies, we'il see how the red light stops shining.

Why would one put his body\armor status visible to the enemy but not himself? This in-universe explanation doesn't satisfy me. 100% health is especially unconvincing.
One would think it would be a HUD inside his helmet
So a medic doesn't have to look at his face to know if he's dead or just unconscious.
Bounty Hunter's Code says life support. In the book it read something along the lines of letting them take a quick glance to see if they're alive or dead, efficiency on the battlefield or in the line of fire
HG = mmHg (unit measure of atmospheric pressure). 28C = Temperature in Celsius. HG28C means at absolute pressure the armor temp is 28 degrees Celsius. As you noticed, the more blaster fire the armor receives, the pressure and temperature of the armor increases. The digital readout is an indicator as to the integrity of the armor. The all "88888" display is a P.O.S.T. (power on self test) in order to reset the sensor reading (self calibrate) of the integrity of the suit armor to the different environments. The red segmented bars above the digital readout display is a visual BAR pressure indicator. As the red segment bars increases across, the more BAR or HG pressure the armor suit...never before information shared from the original technical advisors to honor Jeremy Bulloch... RIP Jeremy Bulloch
Finally someone who agrees w me. 28 C is 82.4 F, not an unexpected temperature between armor and skin if you are stuck inside a metal suit. Hg might indicate that the suit is pressurized if necessary in case he ends up in a hostile environment, be it low gravity, high g, or a vacuum.
why would you project that on your armor and not have it in your heads up display? how can you see it on your armor?

He can change the display output between ID Badge, Kill Count, Instagram Likes, UA-cam Subscribers, or Bounty $ on his head.
There was a licensed full-size Fett replica (Don Post I believe) that had the LED readout and was supposed to have the same sequence at in ESB. And the originals were more complex than 8, there were also diagonals so it was an 8 with an X super imposed on top. It looks like they used cheaper 8 segment LEDs (7 plus the decimal) rather than the more flexible 16 segment LEDs.
If bobafet is a clone. The he sould have a expected life exptency. As a clone time left to live.

Alternative explanation: HG28C may be an internal code reference of the armor’s software, not so much about the wearer’s health but the weapons systems configuration. It may reference which systems ammo needs replenishing, power levels for different blasters, etc.

I think the HG28C is more of a reference to an increase is physical activity, as advanced as his armor is it can probably measure changes in not just "health level" but changes in emotion or thought process and any small shift in his overall state of wellbeing
When a system reads 8's it is a test to make sure all lines are functioning properly. Not a reset, but a periodic test of the display.
Also, bit of a stretch, but the element mercury is HG, and at 25degrees is a liquid state. Not sure if it is a text of health function or maybe a read out of chemicals on or near his armor? Mercury is used for many things, so he could have a chemical monitor on his suit.

I just wonder, why a assasin/fighter/bounty hunter like a mandalorian would have his health status visibly, for all opponents, on his chest, where it would be, even without helmet, very difficult to read for himself. I would rather have some display incorporated into the helmet. like the rocket aiming screen or the visual display he uses to track enemies in ep16.

Tbh it’s more likely his bounty hunter license code or something along those lines rathe than health readout, nobody would want their enemies to know their condition while being unable to see it themselves
Though I love and will always cherish the original armour look, I much prefer the new, crisp looking armour set up with the dark robes

My conclusion is that it is a health readout but maybe more to do with the wearers heat & basic comfortability readout. The button on the front to the side could be a setting up and down to adjust the setting for the armour to heat up or chill down? or maybe even a setting to allow the spaces inbetween the plates to cause a kind of sheild adjustment to assist in protecting the wearer from blaster bullets?
Could be the fuel guage for his jetpack, or a specific setting code for his armor 🤔
Funny, this was the first video on my play list, an I found out a few hours ago that the actor who played him, passed away at the age of 75.
Perhaps, it has more to do with the environment than it does his health...or it's short for, Helmet, Gauntlets, Chest, Backpack and then a Z, for the missile. That would make more sense than putting out your health to your enemies.
There are other potential things about what it might mean, something like different things being listed with it.
Something like direction indicators for things or various authorization codes.
If you consider Jango's version of the armor, it also looks like there are panel coverings that close off the LEDs, which might be damaged or Boba might have viewed it as intimidation...and people taking aim would be aiming for the beskar plate rather than vulnerable points.

I wanted to see behind his armor for years because at first I thought it was just armour he was wearing till I noticed the readout in Empire.I didnt notice it in New Hope.I forgot for almost 40 years until after Mando gets into it with that beast and his chest plate is messed up and you see all the wiring.Until that I didnt know it was that much technology.Another thing The Mandolorion has answered
Taking photos of 7 segment LED panels is a bit difficult since not the lights are not always constantly on. The segments are often pulsed (quite fast) one after the other. The effect is similar to propellers or wheels turning backwards on video.
Still trying to make his gear myself the led's are a challenge

Try finding old 1970s LED calculators.
The movie/prop crew used repurposed electronic components; it is how the cost was kept down. These calculators were common at yard sales, flea markets, and thrift stores for years from the late 70s through the early 80s.
They came in different styles and sizes, but the LED display was very durable.

With regards to the LED it says ready in season 2 episode 1 and is on the right side at one point in the older movies

HG 28C (or more accurately HP28C) was my calculator designation back in the 70s .... (Hewlett-Packard 28C calculator) !!! It was the most advanced calculator in its day. And it cost a pretty penny too. But it was the calculator for serious geeks!! I still have it.
Not sure it's a health status readout. Not sure what else it would be, but any Boba costumer could've told you that readout changes constantly. It actually needs to change in a specific pattern at a specific interval for entry to the 501st afaik.

It is part of the LS that's all I have a hunch about without references to other costume. I still wonder if Fortuna had a ballistic vest on, maybe the LS runs a status check like tunes his stims to calm down in battle. Rancor's like live prey so maybe there's some things Bounty Hunters overlook when trying to mingle in the Twi's
If beskar is armor plating basically, how do you fit a life support system into it? Makes more sense to me that the chest plate has the equivalent of dog tags for soldiers, showing a very condensed set of vital statistics that only mando medics and others would understand like blood type, something something along those lines.

It could be a a readout of a few different information streams, I do a bit of work with programmable logic controllers and they will scroll the display through preset settings when in idle.
The LED is there to confuse his enemies.
If we want to go with it being a health monitor. HG hemoglobin and 28C being temperature.

I think Jango’s is just closed. Like it slides open and the readout is underneath. However Boba is missing the covering.
28C could be in reference to body temperature. The HG portion could be referencing the Mercury (Hg) being used to gauge the temperature. So it could quite literally be saying "Mercury thermometer reads 28° Celsius"
In which case he'd be dead or dying, not in perfect health.

In a 7-segment display, sometimes it's only possible to use the lowercase of the letter.
