      That awning has been my favorite mod for a while. absolutely a life saver during rain and super hot sun. so quick to setup and get some relief.

    Would be helpful to slow that video down a bit and maybe show how you have the awning attached. Is it attached to the roof racks? Or is it mounted to the channel on the nest??

      Great point and thanks for the feedback. I have been MIA on the channel pretty much for two years and need to get back on it :-) I am planning a full walk around of everything on the truck soon. The awning uses mounts specifically designed for the frontrunner rack.

    Thats such a clean looking combo on the hundred. I'm holding off getting a cheap awning after watching you and a couple of aussie youtubers get the shadow-awn. Poles and dog leashes don't mix too well...

      thanks man, i really love it. i debated on the shadow awn forever. i watched plenty of people take forever to set up a straight awning with poles and knew it would end up driving me nuts. first summer with the awning we camped like 15 days. it rained every single day not all day everday but still. we would have been hiding in the tent or truck. the shadow awn has so much room we could all sit under it and relax. i also love pulling off in truck stops or rest areas for a snack and to relax. its just a minute to set it up and we're chilling. i knew after one weekend it was money well spent.

    You think it’s possible to rig the Alu cab awning on the roofnest falcon with the roofnest awning brackets?

    • @BradyAdventures
      @BradyAdventures  4 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't try it. It might work for a while but the shadow awn is heavy and puts a lot of torque at the rear of the awning. I worry that the amount of force would be more than the roofnest channel could handle. Might work for a while but eventually cause impacts to the tent.

    Thank you for your video but do have a question hopefully you could answer. We are thinking about buying a Roofnest Falcon Pro tent but would like a awning system to put on Falcon Pro side to create another room. This would be our first tent. The awning your showing is like the batwing awning type and could make a big room. So I am wondering what you would recommend for a awning system to put on the side of the Falcon Pro. Appreciate your time and help.

      Hi Jessica, I apologize for taking so long to get back with you. It's been a bit of a disaster out my way with snow and power outages. We are finally getting back to normal. The shadow awn awning is the awning on my truck and it is an incredible piece of kit that is probably my favorite part of my truck. It is so easy to setup and take down that is has become something that we use for even the quickest of pit stops. It is pretty expensive but I would buy it again in a second. The awning fabric has heavy duty velcro built in around the edge for the addition of a room you can purchase. That addition is also very expensive. I have considered making something my self or just biting the bullet and purchasing there's since the alu-cab gear is really top notch. It's ability to be setup without poles is due to it's very heavy frame/arms. Those arms all mount at the rear of the awning and when open a significant amount of torque occurs at the point. I have the awning mounted with mounts designed to mount directly to the frontrunner rack and they are very heavy duty. I wouldn't recommend a free standing 270 awning like mine mounted directly to a falcon. I feel like the torque might be too much for the falcons rail and might fail at some point if not fairly quickly. I think any non freestanding awning would likely be just fine. They are much lighter in general but more importantly don't have that large amount of continuous torque at the rear pivot point. I think something like the ARB deluxe awning and room would be a good fit for the falcon rails. These do not setup as quick or as easily and do not offer as much room as a 270 but I think would work well directly attached to a falcon. If you want to go all in I would say look at a frontrunner rack, add a shadow awn, and get the alucab room to go with it. That will be a pretty decent chunk of change but it will be very nice and very sturdy. Man I didn't think I was going to ramble that long. I hope that is helpful. Let me know if you have any follow up questions and good luck on your build!

      @@BradyAdventures Hi Brady. Thank you for getting back to me and no worries about the delay. I completely understand, we are in western NY area and just had bad snow etc here. So the last few days have been clean up from the snow and people getting power back too. Hope you and your family are doing better now. Guess you never know what the weather will do.
      Appreciate the info about the awning / screen room. Will take all in consideration for when we buy. Can I ask you one more question. Like I said , we are interested in the Falcon Pro but yours is a different Falcon but wondering how you like your Falcon Roofnest. Have seen a few more on the other Falcons but not so much for the Pro's. Just like to get good feedback from owners before diving in. Again appreciate your time!
      Jess 🙂

      I really love the falcon. I have been meaning to do a video with my impressions after almost 2 years now but my youtube production has really suffered the last year+ due to life, work, etc. :-) I haven't looked at the pros closely but I think they are pretty similar in a lot of ways. My kids are getting pretty big so it's really best for solo trips, me and one of my kids or my girlfriend and I. The ease of setup and teardown is key for me just like the awning. I like moving around a lot and being able to be mobile in a few minutes or ready to relax at a new site in minutes. There really aren't very many RTTs that have the ease of setup that these tents have. I have a few critical items. First the tent get's very very hot in the sun. I did a video on putting a white vinyl wrap on the roof and it made a huge difference. It is absolutely essential to do something to the top to reduce the heat. I have a solar panel attached directly to the tent on top at the front and that area still gets pretty hot from the panel. I may attach ridged panels at some point with an air gap to help more. I had some moisture issues, I really need to do a video on them all. My rubber seal had a defect and a couple other trouble spots. They surprised me at first and it caused trouble. Roofnest worked with me and sent me replacement materials as we worked through the issues. It seems pretty tight now but I do occasionally find some condensation so I keep the mattress out when I am not using it regularly and try to open it up every few weeks if I haven't camped in a while to air it out. I have posted a video on condensation in the summer, it can be pretty bad at times but that just comes with the territory. My only other thing is getting in and out in the rain. It can be difficult to execute with out getting your stuff wet. I copied a guy on youtube and built a triangle awning for the side and it really helps. I am going to drop a video on that one of these days too. I think that is a necessary mod also. That is really the most critical stuff I can come up with. I really love it, it's comfortable and I am pumped that I am going to be taking a bunch of trips this spring and summer with it. I hope that helps. Your questions are motivation me to get back to production on some of the videos I have waiting on me. Please feel free to ask any other questions. Sometimes it takes me a few days to get back but I am happy to help you out in any way I can.

    What a shame the tailgate door hits

      thanks man, yeah the door hitting isn't too bad there's a protective foam strip on the awning to keep the tailgate from getting banged up.
