LGB G Scale Track - Used, Abused and Resurrected; Save big when buying track!

After blowing too much cash on a limited edition Stainz three Car passenger set, I thought I'd better look at ways of saving money. After a few days searching around, I bought old battered tracks and switches from an outdoor layout in Germany.

For cleaning track, I find soaking track in cheap white vinegar for an hour or two, then pull out and take a used toothbrush and barkeepers friend and this cleans off the rails, including deeply weathered [almost black] track sections. Once you get the shine rinse off with water. Just watch out the barkeepers friend rinses off completely and doesn't cake up on the rails.
