    Hello I like your work been following for a while.... their's one important note I have to say. Can you please please do a series on Japanese samurai armor complete builds including different style knot works. Thanks hopefully other people like my self would have a huge interest seeing this style come to life sooner than later.... much love for your craft....

      There is a high likelihood of a samurai series on the horizon but it will be with a fantasy flavor like all my work, not historically accurate.

      Oh yes!!!! I'd like to make my own samurai armor but the images on Google aren't what i'm looking for. I'm not that creative to think of it myself so i'm very excited to see how he would do it.

      That's all good to hear.. I've seen versions of star wars as samurai etc. Ass long ass it has plate armor and knot works all good that's what resembles samurai in my opinion

      @@Princearmory And if your original fantasy set was any indication (two style options, one simple, the other with more fantasy flair), I see no reason why a Samurai/fantasy set couldn't be customized by its user to be more historically correct.

    It's highly doubtful I would ever make something like this but it is totally fascinating to see an artist at work.
    Showing tools and techniques but also remembering no-one starts with all the tools is wonderfully refreshing (too many 'experts' seem to think anyone following them will have finances to buy 'everything')

    It would be super helpful if you provided the measurements or sizes of the pieces used in the example. I get different sizes when trying to print the PDF or trying to use the SVG files. I understand the pattern is scalable, but it would help to have a start point.

  • @fabiocosta3830

    By what i learned, leather armor is relatively effective at protecting from slashes and hacking, and can absorve some blunt damage. However, it can't be repaired like bronze or steel armor. Simply stitching and gluing a cut will leave it as a weak point. Creating replacement armor pieces can help, but can be costly.

      @@Princearmory Thank you for the response. When I write functional I should clarify. I mean is it fighting worthy or how much protection would it provide?

    • @rickmurphy4895
      @rickmurphy4895 3 роки тому +1

      @@Wolfedog It's functional, and if you're making it yourself it is obviously completely up to you what you end up with. You can use thicker leather for more protection, as well as harden the leather if you're really wanting it to be solid. If you're actually planning on fighting in it, you should consider padding under the armor to reduce bruising.

      @@Wolfedog That depends on how you build it man. If you use thin leather, not so much, if you use thicker leather and harden it, then quit a bit. There is a balancing act for each person to find their own preference. Some students are adapting the patterns and making them with steel too.

    • @JnJShiffler

      I have seen folks wax dip their pieces, darkhorse armory does this some. Most pieces get a acrylic top sealant , Resoline is the most common it seems. I think any leather shoe waterproofing conditioners work good too. I'm a hobbyist beekeeper so I like to slick and seal my edges with real beeswax. The non grain underside, flesh side is trickier with water proofing. You can glass panel slick it with Tokenole or wax I believe to help with weatherproofing but it makes the leather a bit thinner all that rubbing and compacting. You can probably also "hot stuff" the leather by adding wax and using a heat gun to melt into the leather, adds some weight of course. Black Raven Academy in the UK has their own blend of water based stains he claims has a built in wax for water protection but he also still recommends using sealants. I'm still a noob but this is what I've learned so far from my studies.

    Buyer beware. Unless you have the same software or Adobe + printer settings- your pieces will not scale correctly. I even tried converting to SVG in Inkscape but no luck. After multiple emails, posts and messages he would not do the simple favor of providing the correct dimensions. In the end, you're better off making your own patterns. Suggestion: be more explanatory and take more time to show what you are doing.
