The fact that your whole goal is to get your dad retired is awesome. And don't apologize about it being a slow process. Even if it's just one step forward it's still progress. Plus, you're learning as you go and getting an opportunity to spend quality time with your dad and have fun doing it. Also just think what you will have accomplished when the truck is done.

8 bolts and the gas tank connection and y’all can take the bed right off. Paint everything you can with rust encapsulator. It will look like new underneath and make working on everything a lot neater and cleaner!

Dont cheap out on the HVAC! Trust me. In the summer youll be thanking yourself. I would recommend a 5.0 ton package unit and run metal or flexible ducts hanging from the ceiling of the shop.
