Great to know my dude! Unfortunately here in the Philippines we only get the i7 13650HX and either the RXT4050 or the RTX4060 variants. Did you get a G16 for yourself? How is it?

@@KevinEvangelista I mean the G16 is not yet available, however the scar series had launched and they have good specs like RTX 4080, Mini LED, i9 13980HX etc. We receive the products with the same specs from Asus just like America except for a hefty charge of maybe $300 more. Also we don't receive the mouse and the 100W charger you got. Btw I'm going to buy the G18 since I think it has more cooling capability and I don't mind carrying a 3kg brick with me. Also I think you made a mistake by ramping up the fans and telling coil whine started. It is so subtle and is noticeable only when silent. Also I hope we receive every single GPU for the Strix G16 and G18 like the RTX 4050, 4060, 4070 and ofc 4080

    • @KevinEvangelista
      @KevinEvangelista  Рік тому

@@allstargaming2500 Hope I could test out the G18 too, but alas, I think the next model that ROG is going to send to me for review is the Zephyrus G16.
Unfortunately yes, I do need to ramp up the fans-- it is part of stress testing after all, and it wasn't outside of a normal scenario that an end-user might experience. I actually got worse coil whine when I run 3DMark Time Spy on it-- but I understood that very few users would be running a stress test like that, so I went back at it again with just the standard Cyberpunk 2022 test, and I still experienced intermittent coil whine. It was good to know it has it though, as I was able to relay to the ROG representatives that it did in fact experience coil whine, and they can look into that for future revisions or next-model updates.
Hope your country gets the entire lineup of GPUs for both G16 and G18 models! I find it best to give the people choices, instead of pigeonholing them into 2-3 models that are stuck in just one price point.

Where I am from we got it with the same CPU and the rtx4060 and the nebula display(the same you describe) for around 1800 usd. I dont know what were they thinking when they combined the 4060 with such a nice display. The 4060 cannot run games in this resolution without the help of the software and the CPU is a beast but it is an overkill for the rtx 4060. I would much prefer what they got in the Philipines, it should be cheaper and would've made more sense since the 4060 is more than capable of 1200p gaming not so much for 1600p....

@@Smart_boy2001 may you could try to replace them with other laptop fans. But i think this is the problem with nearly every new gaming laptop. I tried several laptops , the Alienware m15 r7 , m16 , the x 15, the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, Laptops from Asus and each of them had high pitched fans sounding like a jet engine. I think it is the design of the laptop, the fans have a lot of blades and they have to spin very fast up to 6000 rpm to achieve god cooling in laptops thin cases. So i would say, even though this is far from perfect its normal.

To be perfectly honest, the coil whine is not bad at all. It's just there, but it's not intrusive enough to worry you.

A (hopefully constructive) critique on the Gaming Benchmarks section. It would help an ignoramus like myself if you mentioned (or perhaps put on screen?) the settings you tried with each game.
E.g. You mentioned testing Cyberpunk 2077 on Ultra + RT w/DLSS on _balanced,_ but I don't recall hearing or seeing the settings you used on Battlefield 5.
While that obviously doesn't affect your conclusions regarding the performance using the 100W USB-C or 230W barrel-connector charger, mentioning the specs you used makes is easier to estimate how far you'd have to drop setting to, for example, get a consistent >60FPS Average/ >30FPS 1% Low.
I appreciate the effort you've put into this.

If I were recording vocals or live instruments, definitely not at that fan speed-- although it must be said that I've never experienced my DAW of choice to tax the system that bad to warrant the fans to run at full speed. Depends on your needs, the tuf probably would look “cheaper” but more portable I think, the battery would last longer bc of the ryzen processor, the rog looks cooler (in my opinion), better cooling system
In overall, probably i would pick the rog because of the aesthetics and between the 4060 and 4070 isn’t that big of a difference
Edit: i’ve made a mistake, the difference is bigger than i thought, if the same price or less than 300 USD difference, go for the 4070 without hesitation

Oh this came at a good time! I was just at the unveiling of the new Legion laptops yesterday, and I got to take a close look at the 13th gen Intel Legion 5i Pro model. Since it's running a stronger graphics card while keeping all of the specs the same, I'd say you're better served by the Legion 5i Pro RTX4060. The 4050 and the 4060 are made for 1080p gaming, and both these laptops are WQXGA (1200p) so you're already kind of pushing the limits there. But the 4060 has the benefit of having better DLSS 3.0 performance, so I would always recommend that.
Plus the Legion 5i Pro is running both the CPU and the GPU at a higher max TDP (240W vs 300W) so the performance ceiling on the 5i Pro is raised a bit higher.
I'd say go for the 5i Pro if budget permits. Hope this helps!

Well, the RTX4060 can easily drive a 2K monitor, but what kind of games do you play? Are they CPU-heavy titles? If so, go for the i9 G16. If they're not really CPU-heavy (and you don't see yourself playing CPU-heavy games in the future) go for the MSI Pulse 17, because the 4070 is way more future-proof than a 4060. Hope this helps!
