    The SJ style seems to lead to a lot of players running into one another. That's not entirely unusual, but it creates some foul situations better avoided.
    UConn is almost back to full strength and cruised to a 30 pt win over a team which had only lost 1 game. Impressive.
    Stopping the SJ top scorer was very very effective and keeping Lou scoring despite fouls was the other side of the coin. Excellent coaching.
    I've noticed UConn players seem to be quicker and more likely to succeed on sudden moves to get open and drive to the hoop. It creates some very impressive plays. Nika, Dorka, Aubrey, Aaliyah all have shown it. That adds another dimension to the offense most teams don't have.
    On defense though, hoo boy. The players kept getting confused about who they were supposed to be guarding and we often ended up with Lou guarding their center. That needs to be looked at. OTOH, I liked the blocking by Dorka, Amari, and Aaliyah. There were some real bright spots on passing too.

      How bad must those teams be? St John is ranked 31 up from 17 last week. March Madness for both sexes is the only competition worth watching. St. John’s has very little intensity. No boxing out.

    The growth this season in Aaliyah, Nika, Dorka & Azzi (+ the enormous bonus talent that is Lou) is dramatic & unmistakable. If we finally get our long overdue injury-free stretch with at least ten, or so, final regular season games to build our chemistry, we will very likely have morphed into a monstrous team that can beat anybody. Think about it. Aaliyah & Dorka up front flanked with deadly shooters Azzi, Lou & (back to game winning form) Caroline. All turbo facilitated by the nation's assist leader & defensive phenom Nika Muhl. Throw in Aubrey Griffin to torment opposition with stellar defense. Add in rapidly improving and promising Ayanna Patterson....Look out!!

    I have an admission to make. This is a first. In all the games I've watched where I wrote comments, I focus mostly on the offense and then I wait a day and go back to watch the game a second time, focusing on defense. I have to admit that this time when I went back to watch it a second time I was shocked that it was better than I had first thought. First for everything, I suppose.
    They weren't making so many mistakes as I had thought and they were getting to their offense more quickly and executing plays very efficiently. Their defense was really stellar, especially Aubrey (who was guarding SJ's top scorer). It's the first game where my review IMPROVED after the second viewing. The very few times the defense got lost were just flukes. I didn't discern anything special the SJ offense did to make it happen.
    Mea culpa mea culpa.

  • @erics9213
    @erics9213 Рік тому +3

    SJ is not the easiest team to defend as their offense is always moving and switching. Still, UCONN defended very well. I kinda of like where UCONN's offense has evolved to right now. It use to be very stagnant. Now it flows better and creates more opportunities to break down the defense. Nika shows me a little more every game. I like her drives and she has the speed and strength to break through. Defenders don't expect that from her which is another weapon for UCONN. Azzi is her old sharpshooter self.

    • @markhathaway9456
      @markhathaway9456 Рік тому +1

      A couple of the UConn players lose control of the ball too easily when they go up for a layup or bring down a rebound. Hey, turnovers were way down !!!! Woo hoo.

    ESPN has a little piece on Tina Charles visiting UConn practice. She played a lite game of 1-on-1 with Edwards. Size wise, Charles made Edwards look like a child. What a wonderful spirit by Charles to give time to the current UConn team.

    Amazing game by Aaliyah and Dorka! Remember i "critizied" Dorka for not being good when performing a double double on her first game back after injuriy, well tonight she did play on full potential and now you can see why that double double back then wasnt really such a good performance. With her and Aaliyah dominating the paint i can only think of very, very few teams that can contest UCONN at all.
    Rest of the starters are still a mixed bag, with Nika strong on defense and finally having an offensive game but her TO still drive everyone nuts, Aubrey seems to have a lack of confidence when she had a lot of opportunites to shoot but she hesitated and although her defense was really strong her offense has vanished, and Lou is just so inconsistent: one play she does something amazing the next she just does some completely weird nonsense.
    But the bench players all did a really great job! Amari did great on both ends and had some nice assists and a block, Ines had little minutes and i wished she had tried to shoot that 3 in the end but she did good, and last but not least Azzis first game she still is just such an unbelievable scorer from every position, so quick, so fast and deadly and it's great to see her back! She will do 25+ PPG when she is back to her usual minutes for sure.
