      @@SchumanizedNot uncommon in jazz. Good jazz guitarists are very careful not to step on other harmony instruments. It’s not like rock ‘n’ roll where the harmonies are simple enough that chords on different instruments won’t clash and the rhythms are fairly straightforward. In jazz - as an example - if you play a major 7th that’s a half step away from the 1 someone else is playing, you’re going to get a clash .
      Often a guitarist and pianist will take turns comping, and it is common to see a guitarist rest his/her hands on top of the guitar when a keyboardist or another guitarist are comping. It’s just good etiquette.

      And Stevie was "discovered" as "Little Stevie Wonder" playing his harmonica on his song "Fingertips". I have played harmonica 48 years and was full-time player by age 20 so do pay added attention when Stevie pulls out his harp!

      Bless genius Stevie Wonder's heart! He is so supportive and really gets around. Years ago he attended a basketball game and gave the great Darryl Dawkins the nickname: CHOCOLATE THUNDER.

    I love how Chick is the only guy other than Stevie who actually knows the tune well enough to play it from memory, the bass player is literally learning the tune on the spot & under pressure! 😀

      @@pete3816 I have played harmonica 48 years and was full-time pro by age 20. Most of my friends who are pro harp players can usually tell it's Stevie on the first note......or at the first 2 or 3. His tone, attack, note shape, etc. are distinctly his own.

    Awesome! I used to jam at a local jazz bar on Tuesday nights with Chick many years ago, when I was a guitarist living near him in Florida. He was a monster musician, and wonderful human being....RIP Chick....

      Nah, nothing like seeing a great up close and personal in a small setting. This is as close to having them over to the house for coffee and jam as one is gonna get. I don't go to large concerts anymore - too many phones to look through:)

      Me too! His tone, phrasing and tasty melodic expressions keep my interest. As a 48 year harp player I of course have recordings by the others you mention but Stevie is so cool on harp.

    How wonderful was that? That just made my day. Thanks so much for sharing that.I have loved the music of Stevie Wonder and Chick Corea for decades. I expected Stevie to sing but it was way cool to hear him just play. And kudos to Chick for remembering the bass line in the bridge as well as the ending.

    Sensational. It's videos like these that make me go buy jazz piano books to learn, like this one called The Jazz Piano Book, but I'm just not cut out for it. Gosh I was so immersed in this performance. Really magnificent. Wonderful Stevie and his great musical ear.

      @@jhgust "One Night Only! Corea and Wonder: Live!" And what's on the set list? A one-phrase, one -lyric bath fart from the slip-slop genre. Remember when Wonder and McCartney finally got together and "Ebony & Ivory" was all they could come up with? This underwhelms, too, but at a depth that cannot be measured. Cover Coolio? You can do it with a cocktail napkin. I have to wonder (Ha!) if Corea tried for a way out of this dead end.
