  • When I was changing new guitar pickups, accidentally I messed up my Duncan Stratocaster's 5 way switch. So I needed this new 5 way switch. Now I installed it to my guitar and I am so happy! Thank you StewMac!!

    I picked up guitar with the covid pandemic like apparently half the planet and youtube gave me a recommendation for your how to play "Plastic Love" by ear--not the ones you recorded at work but the one at home. The lesson really landed with me especially when you stressed the importance of ear training and how you could end up stagnating for decades without it, along with a tutorial and an explanation of how to song was put together and I constantly went back to that video from time to time until it was removed. I really miss that video.
    I really appreciate anything you put out but the benefit of your experience and knowledge is why I keep coming back.

    I love the video where Dan fixes your Mustang's neck. Amazing! Then, you talk about the neck needing new frets. I can't wait to see this new video.
    Always a pleasure!

    Thank you so much for sharing Tomo! Learning to solder and removing solder and working on guitars as a whole! is very important! or at least how they function anyway. I love working on musical instruments it's very relaxing and rewarding $$$ now that a lot of music stores have closed who do we turn to? Stew Mac of course and do it yourself. Thanks again.

      You're very welcome! I am learning this and it's fun! So great to hear that! I enjoy working on my guitars. I have't bring any guitars to local guitar repair for over 25 years or more.Thank you!

    A solder "wick" or also buy a "solder sucker" Desoldering Pump. Very handy. Either way before using the wick or pump always "tin" (pre-solder) the tip of the iron and then go to the connection. The "fresh" solder helps melt the old solder more quickly. Less time, less heat, less damage. Hope this helps.

    Soldering is a skill. Take it to a Tech who can do this in minutes. Just as your amazing guitar playing is a skill! Respect

    You need lots of heat, so you can get on and off the terminal quickly. Use clip on heat sinks, ( like a hemostat) near the plastic so that it does not soften. Also blow on the solder joint to accelerate its cooling. Do not make a cold solder joint, use lots of heat to get good flow, just be quick and then blow,

      I was unsolder from the switch then I applied too much heat inside of the original switch! Thank you for sharing! I have learned something!

    lol consistency just like learning guitar. I knew you could do it. I was going to comment when you said you weren’t experienced. But who am I to tell you? The first time I switched out everything I melted the back plate with the soldering iron so I moved it then melted the binding on the les Paul. What can you do? Now my guitar is unique. Just did my first push pull yesterday and I have stew mac sending me a new nut bridge and tail piece. They have a decent luthier kit. The right files make all the difference when putting a new nut in.

    your soldering iron is quite big for small work and using a desoldering pump is better too imao , so sometimes mistakes happen ;))

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  Місяць тому

      Yes! True! A desoldering pump! I have one! Great mistake on cheap 5 way switch! So I haver learned from this.

    E flat major7 that you showed as a video short, are you kidding me Fujita San? As a novice, little finger is not very obedient. Good luck with 5 way switch. Don't run the solder down the switch it will block it. Bon courage.
