    I just wanted to say thank you to Tom Davis for this wonderful experience. That’s my dog Kody in the video!!! It’s really nice to finally meet someone that absolutely cares about dogs and animals so much. And even though one hour of training is never going to fix the star completely, you at least gave me the steps in the foundations to start training to make this dog a better dog. Your knowledge is unbelievable and the way you describe things is just what a true dog trainer should be. It was definitely worth a 3 Hour Dr. And everyone saying that you should not use a prong collar, get one. I’ve been using it for the past week and it has change the way he walks, change the way he reacts to dogs, it’s been a lifesaver. Not saying he’s fixed but it’s a definite improvement. Thank you to Tom Davis and everyone at upstate canine Academy

      Kody is lucky to have you for his human!! To care enough to make that drive to get awesome training says a lot!! I had a negative attitude toward the prong collar when it was recommended to me by a local trainer. But when I saw one of Tom’s videos, I completely changed my attitude, gave it a try, and never looked back!! Best thing I did for my girl. I learned a lot from this video, so thanks for allowing it to be shared!!🐾❤️

    Your commentary in real time is very helpful. That's really the reason I've been binge-watching your vids. Lots of times I think it is the things you might normally say to yourself (in your own head) that might be just what one of us (or many) needs to hear.

    I have a Golden Doodle myself! Love my dog so much!
    I just wanted to say that I seriously love how you train and the thought process behind it. Towards the end, it clicked that your philosophy can really apply to humans as well. I used to teach and a lot of what you explained is also taught during student teaching. It's just amazing how it all fits and that you can apply this same training to such a variety of aspects! I continue to be beyond impressed by your videos!

    Hey, could you do some kind of a "check list" for fresh owners of adopted dogs (adults and seniors)? They often come with issues so what would be first things to do in order to establish the rules? How to bring them home, what to teach them first etc.

    • @regenindergosse
      @regenindergosse 4 роки тому +5

      Well that's pretty hard I guess. Different dogs have different issues.
      Personal I would give you the advice to work on a loose leash, recall and a good sit (automatically staying, command just breaking with a okay or break), maybe driving calm in a car and somewhen heel.
      That's what I would recommand at first, because I didn't know either when I got my girl.
      Little thing for the beginning: go for a walk before you let the dog in, so the dog is calmer.

    • @8732dg
      @8732dg 4 роки тому +6

      Hi JoanTheBee! Tom actually has a whole video on introducing an adopted dog to a new home. It’s really great if you haven’t already checked it out I highly recommend doing so.
      I rescued a 4 yr old pit bull about 2 months ago and after watching that video I was able to recognize all of things I did good and not so good right off the back.
      That video (and all they others that Tom has provided) actually helped me go back correct some things and has made for a better relationship with myself and buddie.

    I read a really good book in the 1990s about parenting that told parents that it's all right to be the boss in the family. (Not to the point of abuse) They have the right to be the leader because they have the responsibility to feed and house everybody. A family is not a democracy.
    The dog-human bond is not a democracy, either. You get to be the boss. In a kind way, of course.

      Yep, its the only rule I have with my dogs..."do as I ask" and in return, you'll be loved, safe, fed and be treated like a king or queen. But you must do as I ask! and dogs are not stupid, they want to please, so if they understand what you want, they will follow.

    Great job! I will try this with my puppy, because this is exactly what she does when we're with my mother. I train, feed, walk, play with the puppy, but she's still incredibly fixated on my mother. Don't know the reason. She screams and pulls when we go for a walk together and my mum goes to the store for example and we wait outside. Great video!

I would leave and stay outside in my car and watch the camera as soon as he tried to escape or tamper with the gate he got shocked... only took one more time after that and he never did it again.... try it on a routine bases and it will work ....my dog never destroys things in the house other than trying to escape to be with me

      Start working on place with them. My German Shepherd has separation anxiety and working with her on place and keeping her there while I move just out of her eye sight for various lengths of time and then come back. When I come back I ignore her until I’m right by her and then I “free” her and give her food or her toy and a ton of praise. It’s taking all my patience because our teddy didn’t have that issue at all.

    Oh gosh, have two like this, and I’m going to get one especially a prong collar, he pulled me down apartment stairs, it could have ended worse. Saved the other one jumping over a fence from a busy street, I was literally stopping traffic so he wouldn’t be hit. Absolutely getting all the pups the safety collar straps, I’d absolutely die ( well I could have honestly protecting them.) trained horses, and these pups , I set my mind , had a deep conversation with myself, I wouldn’t allow a colt w/o safety, just needed to know how the prongs help, because, I’ve seen training collars used so wrong with pups, now, I’m so convinced it’s absolutely believe, it’s in the safety and love for them, and us. Not one video I haven’t seen that a pup looks stressed, harmed, with proper collars, etc. NOT ONE! That’s love for beautiful creatures and saving their lives also.

    Hi Tom,
    I absolutely love your videos and it’s helping me a lot. We recently ( less than 2 weeks). Adopted Daisy after fostering her and what made us almost give up on her was her reactive behavior towards strangers and other dogs . As mentioned in the previous comment some times rescue dogs have attitudes and is hard to get to a comfortable level where the dog is fully happy and listens. If you can give us tips on what we should do to make foster / rescue dogs more “calm” and obedient that would be awesome.

    Great video Tom!! It’s so neat to see this guy calm down within minutes. Thanks for doing a video about dog anxiety. I hope you can do more videos on this topic. Any tips for dogs with car anxiety?

    That buckle is brilliant, I worked at a boarding/daycare and had to take these off of dogs ....sometimes on very friendly, tolerant dogs and other times on dogs that are obviously stressed about staying at the facility and are like “why are you fiddling with my neck..😡” 😂

    I have a really fearful GSD, he's terrified of people but really good with other dogs, I really needed a video talking about how to deal with fearful dogs. Could you do a video talking about how to build confidence in a dog??

      I'm not a dog trainer but something that helped my dog a lot was running him through agility type courses and working on new commands and leash work:)
      Also here's a link to a previous video about this ua-cam.com/video/KFtJkrRFp7U/v-deo.html

    I ordered a prong collar. Still waiting for it. My dog also has separation anxiety. I found that when i leave her in my room when I leave she doesn't cry or bark. I'm watching your videos to learn how to train her. I love your videos, I think you are a really great trainer!!
