Coming soon! The film documentary ‘Jaji’ was created at the initiative of filmmaker Jeffrey Salimin, a Dutch national of Suriname Javanese descent. Jaji, literally meaning ‘companions / shipmates’, seeks to find out what remained of the strong sense of solidarity which was typical among the Javanese who traveled in the same boat from Dutch Indies to Suriname. The so-called Jaji feeling was reflected in many aspects of everyday life. Does the feeling still exist in Suriname and the Netherlands, and if so, how do we notice this? And did other forms of solidarity similar to Jaji, arise? A must see for all interested in Suriname and especially Javanese all over the world.
