    I'm not saying BAND-MAID are for everyone. But if you like technical, occasionally progressive, hard rock with inescapable catchy choruses, you just can't get any better.

    Almost all of their songs are in a mix of Japanese and English to varying degrees. Two songs are totally in English 'Don't Let Me Down' (very saucy lyrics) and 'The Dragon Cries'. Can't wait to see what you choose next!

    • @markdzima
      @markdzima Рік тому

      All the lyrics written by Miku combine the use of both English and Japanese. The lyrics of "Don't Let Me Down" and "The Dragon Cries" were written by somebody not in the band, not Miku. Sometimes it is difficult to recognize that the English lyrics are in there, however, because Saiki sometimes pronounces the English poorly (she sometimes pronounces the English words with Japanese vowel-sounds instead of English vowel-sounds--Japanese vowels are more like Spanish vowels), which is my only criticism (and it's a small one, in my opinion) of Saiki as a singer.

    You've seen some relatively fast paced Band Maid, and they can up it a good bit more but they can also slow it down. A lot of my very favourite BM songs are the slow to mid tempo stuff like Page, Wonderland, Daydreaming, Anemone, Awkward, Endless story etc, they are no less technical and in my opinion it's those songs in which they also excel vocally.

  • @michaelpalmer3717

    There are many really good Japanese rock bands, male and female, and some brilliant guitarists, male and female. Where Band Maid stands out is the quality of composer/lead Kanami's songs.
    They have their own genre and contrast hard rock Rinne with soft acoustic Puzzle. Kanami is a genius and her bandmate's are mega talented and bring out the best in any composition.

Then try the video "Sence" or the live version of "Black Hole" before you go hard core with the instrumental "From Now On", "Hate?", "Balance" or "I'll". Unfortunately, there are no video for the last 3.

    This is one of Miku Kobato's recurring lyric themes. Miku's lyrics often allude to the obstacles she and the band have had to overcome and are still facing. Dice confronts this theme on several levels. The feeling that they need to please, to be subservient, but also that they're not being given a fair chance and being taken advantage of, and then coming to the realization that they can say "NO!", free themselves, take their own chances, and go their own way. Miku's lyrics when juxtaposed within the video of the little girl blindfolded and tied to a chair, who then frees herself and takes those first steps by herself are powerful. When you look at the band's history, you'll see a repeated pattern of Band-Maid realizing that they have to steer their course.

    Akane is pronounced Ah-kah-nay. Japanese vowels are always pronounced the same way; once I figured that out, I could pretty much sound out anything written in Romanized Japanese.
    Japan has been such a rich treasure chest of new-to-me music, and BAND-MAID was the first gem that I found. If you'd like to see another Japanese rock band, probably the most unique band I've heard since Pink Floyd, then I suggest a reaction to "Homura + Akatsuki no Ito" by Wagakki Band. I think you'll like their two drummers.

    • @Killermcknight
      @Killermcknight  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you for the pronunciation! The way you describe Japanese music as a rich treasure chest is exactly how I feel as well! You get used to almost to hearing the same styles of music being in America that when something new hits you like Band Maid you almost don't know what to do lol or at least for me. I'm over here trying to learn Japanese as a second language just to enjoy the music more! I don't understand it but the sounds I'm hearing is just awesome. I've always had an inclination towards anime so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me about the language barrier. Either way thank you for the recommendation of the wagakki band I will definitely check them out!
