That yamaha looks like it's been heavily customized. Is it really still a great sounding guitar if you have to change the pick up and add a couple thousand dollars of hardware, mics and PA etc to get that sound.
@@youtubeblogger3088 how is it customized? Because it has a pickup in the soundhole? Lol. No need to add any money to get a great tone. Japanese made guitars punch above their weight class. I'd take this Yamaha over a regular stock Martin 000-18 standard.
I just found this and it is already one of my favoite pieces of solo guitar music. Beautiful song. That bridge part with the all the little bends just causes chills! Would you mind sharing what tuning you are in? Understand if not! Thank you for this performance.
@@DonAlderOfficial Thank you so much for sharing. I actually discovered your music because I purchased an FSX5 and was looking for examples online. New fan here. Also love the guitar. I am enjoying it more than some of the more expensive guitars I have owned. I have always been focused on the big three guitar brands in America, but am pleasantly surprised by the higher end Yamaha's.
Curious what preamp you would recommend for the FSX5? Just need to control EQ and only have the one pickup. I want the added sound of a acoustic amp like a fishman or AER but just going through a PA without the amp. I've heard modeled acoustic amps on the Quad Cortex and similar modelers, and they really do add to the sound.
you dont need a preamp, running into an AER or small amp has all that then you can take DI out of the amp. If you dont have an amp you can just run into a DI and it works fine but if you really need the extra control then get a small analog mixer with low mid and high bands any small mixer will work just fine, just make sure its analog. Int this video im using the atmos pickup system in the yamaha and a seymour duncan magmic with two outputs going to a mixer, I then run mono out to the mai mboard. Youre hearing mostly the yamaha pickup system. In other songs I bring in the magmic for percussive stuff as it has a built in mic with a dial. Im also running a big sky though the aux sends which allows me to have control over effects on each channel. My tone settings on the mixer are pretty much flat. I then have the control room left going to a small aer amp and also the control going out to a small aer amp on the right and these act as my monitors.
Good evening Don,whilst cruising UA-cam for FSX5 info of which I am possibly going to buy I ran across your video.Glad I did! Just a wonderful performance. Very tasteful playing and just a great sound. What accesories did you use on this performance if you don't mind me asking. Thank you for being on my way to checking out those Yamahas!
thanks for the kind words for this live venue I actually added a seymour duncan magmic and blended the two pickups in a mixer then ran into and amp and was using a strymon big sky with and expression pedal. However if you search for don alder precious moments theres a video of just the guitar and its atmos pickup and blended with an external mic theres also a version with the ACR3 which is great but the FSX5 atmos pickup is killer for recording and for live you dont need anything else. I only added the magmic for intense percussion stuff
I found this channel as I search for the Yamaha FSX5 but stayed for the playing. I just bought this guitar but he plays it much better. Subscribed. Is he using a sound hole magnetic blended with the Atmosfeel? It sounds great with lots of definition.
I do use the magmic for percussion stuff as it has a mic in it as well but for this song the mag is turned down and its mostly the atmos but i am going to a small mixer with a bit of eq cheers
Sounds incredible! What kind of pickup did you install and is the reverb coming from board or individual guitar pedal? If so, what reverb pedal are you using? It sounds beautiful!
HI thanks for asking. I use the pickup of the FsX5 to one channel in a mixer the soundhole pickup ot another channel which is a seymour duncan magmic. I can then eq each channel. I then use the aux send on mixer to a big sky strymon pedal connected to and expression pedal. Then i can reverb to either channel. The swells from reverb are from using the expression pedal. Hope that helps
@@blackmax222 awesome.. its my main stage guitar but i do add the seymour duncan magmic and have a 2nd output blend the two channels in a mixer. thanks for the kind words cheers
for more complex sounds, two pickups, each runs to a separate input in the mixer so. reverb is on magnetic which also has an internal mic for more elab percussive stuff The yami on its own is stellar but the added mic provides more variety of body percussive sounds. In this song there is about 20 percent mag for the verb
Such a peaceful song
Love it!
thankyou
Nice! It's amazing how great that Yamaha sounds. I just bought one and it's on the way to me.

@cosmonaut9942 If it ain't sold as stock then I guess maybe it's customized or I don't know what the word means.
Beautiful song, Don. For me a highlight when you played for us in Kolham in september! Regards, Coos.
Thanks Coos was so great to hang with you and your friends and had a lot of fun
