Imagine walking into a guitar store to drool over the goods and there sits Tommy Emmanuel and Kenny Vaughn putting a couple of Gibsons through their paces.
Don’t even think to touch a guitar there.
I walked into a guitar store in morabbin In melbourne and asked him why he had so many signed pictures of Tommy. He told me he was his manager. He asked me if I was a fan. I said I was and asked me if I wanted to meet him and I said wow for sure and I had a personal one on one guitar lesson with Tommy. One of the best highlights of my life.
Amazing story.
Imagine going into a guitar shop, being asked if you were a fan and saying “no”
@@magicelliotth A "fan" of what?
thats funny- EXACXKTLY what i was thinking.,.... :)
Thank you Tommy for doing the honor of playing my vintage 1960 Les Paul "Blessing" in this video and helping us with our efforts to promote the sale of this guitar for the benefit of Homes For Our Troops. All proceeds will go to Homes For Our Troops when the guitar is sold. Follow the link in the description under this video to learn more about this effort. To have Kenny right there that day to help was true musical magic. Tommy never ceases to amaze and the first time I met and heard Tommy was over thirty years ago ...and he played a Les Paul that night and brought the house down like he always does.
Tommy, and acoustic virtuoso, picks up a Les Paul and plays it like Les Paul. Incredible
Wow perfect analogy I was thinking the same thing Tommy is the closest we have to Les Paul
Was just thinking: he's playing that LP just like Les Paul.
That's exactly what I thought hearing it too @@YaoEspirito
Every Guitar in that room is saying, "Play me next"!
Tommy is the humble humbler.
There are two guitarists that I click whenever I see their names: Tommy and Kenny. This is SO good!
That's the same reason I clicked.
that's bonkers... the phrasing, the reparte, these two are a genius combo
Two maestros 🎸
It would be a serious crime if more of the two of you did not record and release more of this.
A full album please!!!!!
Just saw Kenny with Marty Stuart last night. What an incredible show it was. Got my surf fix to last me awhile. Tommy brought the sweetest tone out of that LP. I’ve never heard one sound so sweet! ❤
Fantastic!
Marty Stuart's band is just a great
❤ I just saw them in Napa a few weeks ago
Tommy Definitely need an electric guitar album, Kenny’s amazing as always
Tommy literally has six or more electric albums
Lol he needs a new one then, I’ll look for his catalog
@@ZIGSVIDS He's even got one with Larry Carlton on it...
@@jvbluesville3426 oh man the stuff I’ve heard of his electric work is amazing you’re missing out! I love songs like soul search
@@GenerationGap69 - With all the respect, and without contesting Phil's great virtuosity, I would say Tommy is a more complete guitarist/musician than his brother was. RIP Phil.
Tommy's triad soloing repertoire is unparalleled...
it's mind-boggling how he builds around them so quickly and then runs off down another direction then comes back to them, he is absolutely next level
I can't think as fast as he cycles through brilliant ideas
I play guitar, but I'm not a jazz player by any stretch. I understood what you're talking about though, and you nailed it. Amazing stuff. You articulated exactly what I was thinking as I was watching him play.
Not knowing the musical words, I get a strong sense of TE getting lost and coming back in his playing. Is it partly to do with his being a drummer - they don't loose the beat.
I agree. Total mastery, similar to that demonstrated by a Les Paul or a Chet Atkins. As you say, just one brilliant idea after another all linked together in a seamless, extremely musical and delightful way. Can't get enough of this kind of playing.
It's just Les Paul and Brian Setzer licks, done better than Les Paul or Brian Setzer ever could. 😮
Because he is not thinking - When you are playing there is no room for thinking...
Not just these two geniuses but aren't we living in the golden age of guitar playing?
Totally!
Hardly
These guys are both almost 70 years old. They still look and play so good!
These are two gentlemen are both players who can be tossed together with absolutely anyone, and within moments can sound like they’ve played together for decades.
Absolute virtuosos.
Tommy's vibrato should be in the vibrato Hall of Fame
Big
fan of cousin Kenny
This is mind blowing…I love that Kenny’s guitar has the price tag hanging off the headstock!…thanks to everyone involved with this !!
Looks like a Barney Kessel. Whatever's on that price tag, it's gonna be a big number!
Never witnessed Tommy plays electric guitar so well. Both Tommy and Kenny deliver a very amazing musical talent. Such a sweet and beautiful jazzy theme...God bless you two...
He had a great teacher on the electric, his late brother Phil!
he was lead guitarist in Air Supply wasn't he?
As an old guitar player and all around music geek . . . this is top notch playing. I love Kenny, particularly with Marty Stuart. I had the pleasure of seeing TE play a show in Key West, Florida a couple years ago. While I normally hate the GOAT debate, in basketball or music, IMO, Tommy is the greatest guitarist, acoustic and electric, in the history of guitar because he plays at the top level in so many different genres. Yeah, I said it!
No such thing as GOAT guitarist, but if there was it would be Tommy 😉
Tommy Emmanuel plays in nearly all genres with great technical and emotive ability. An all time great, but there are many others, modest men but equally as skilled with huge repertoires: Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, Grady Martin, Roy Clark, Atkins, Jerry Reed, and so on….
What is apparent, is the naivete of particular sources reflexively naming Jimi Hendrix the “greatest guitarist of all time.”
There is no such thing (and it certainly wasn’t Jimi Hendrix).
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 . Along with TE,..Reed, Clark, & Atkins came with a great sense of humor ..and loved to use it..
@@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426 Hi Commander! As I said. I hate the GOAT debate, because the many different genres of music are not usually considered, which Is why I think TE is a cut above all of the players you mentioned because he is phenomenal in all genres. BTW, I am very familiar with all of the players you mentioned which I notice are mostly "Country" players. So many great players . . . Joe Pass, Martin Taylor, Chet Atkins, Django, Segovia, Brad Paisley, Johnny Hiland, Glen Campbell etc. All are great players, but mostly in their own genre which is what, IMO, separates TE from everyone. It's funny, I have probably commented on a dozen guitar websites that Jimi, unique, influential guitarist that he was, is NOT the GOAT, although I am sure he could outrock Segovia! Anyway, I am aware of the internal contradictions of my comment, (I don't think the GOAT debate is legit, but TE is the GOAT???), but it did encourage some interesting discussion. Regards.
@@joebikeguy6669 The guitarists I mentioned were included because they play similar style and type of music to Tommy Emmanuel, and several of them are cited by Tommy himself as his inspiration that he strives towards.
I have seen most of the greats play live, in numerous genres, and in bands myself since the 60s. There is no single “greatest” or “best” guitarist. Too many genres, too many metrics to employ. And, really great musicians, don’t view it as a competition.
Certainly Shawn Lane, Jason Becker, Alan Holdsworth, would be included by many. Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Al DiMeola, Paco DeLucia, Lenny Breau. And if one enjoys Hendrix’ style they would have to include the great-under-recognized talent of Terry Kath.
As an acronymous term, and even more so as a concept, GOAT seems over-applied nowadays.
I knew something was wrong. I've never seen Tommy play a LP before. Tele, yes, but not a gold top LP. Never disappoints no matter what he's playing. Kenny doesn't get enough recognition, that's for sure. He's always solid.
Being a 1960 guitar I'm confident it's a really faded sunburst Standard.
Lemon Burst I'm guessing.@@ivanjulian2532
Breathtaking ...wow! That's it,my guitars are going in the fireplace TO IGHT!
Don't do it!
No !!!! Just keep practicing or enjoy what you can do .
Tommy Emmanuel and Cousin Kenny Vaughn? C'mon man! More songs from this pair! Please!
Listened to Tommy for awhile on acoustic and it never registered. This is the best I’ve ever heard him. Kenny is always crazy good… This is really great combinations…
Delightful.
WOW!!! I'm totally amazed by such talented musicians.
Amazing guys , more , more and more again. It reminded me of the two greats: Jerry Reid and Chet Atkins jamming away - having a conversation on guitar.😃
That's why I love the Gibson hum bucker !
Fun to hear Tommy on electric.
Thanks so much for this! I needed to smile today.
Fantastic! Nothing like Tommy & Kenny nailing it on those Gibson's! 👍👍🎸🎸
Just
Perfect 3
Oh wow! Simply outstanding! ❤️
I could listen to this all day, wonderful post!
The Dynamic Duo -- thanks for the aural treat -- playing through the multiple chord changes with grace & creativity!
I didn’t know Emmanuel could improvise so well in these styles, masterful and reminiscent of Les Paul and Chat Atkins.
Tommy and late brother Phil, started playing when they were around 4 and 6 years old respectively. They grew up in Australia and were regarded as world class guitarists as they entered their 20s. Please check them out . They will blow your mind. Phil was incredible and Tommy as we know became one of the world's best and i would humbly claim , most versatile guitarists. And such great guys. Phil eschewed the limelight.
Kenny you always seem to enjoy playing more than anyone!!
The vintage vibe almost smells through the screen! 😍
Oh my goodness, this is amazing! Two of my favorite guitarists on a couple of beautiful vintage Gibsons. Thanks for making my day guys!
Me to
Not wanting to overstate anything, but this is just one of the most enjoyable things I have seen. Thank you.
Tommy, so happy to see you and Kenny doing a tune together! It was wonderful. Thanks so much.
Two of the best😊
You know your doing something right when cousin Kenny grins. Both are legends!
That grin on Kenny's face @3:28 says it all!
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both of these gentlemen. This is golden.
Unfortunately, their talent didn’t rub off on me.☹️🎸
Ah, the absolute power of playing quietly!
I could listen to this all day. It is weird seeing Mr. Emmanuel use a pick though. Brilliant playing by both. No showing off, just feeling the music and adding what the progression wants.
Love this! And cool to see Tommy playing a Les Paul.🎸🐦
Two guys with the cool tones.
Man, I wish I could play like you, Tommy! You make it look as easy a breathing. I started way to late, but I’m enjoying the journey.
Love the price tag on the Gibson. 😊
And Kenny’s last lick… priceless. 😊
This is brilliant, but when I see stuff like this I always think of Les Paul and Mary Ford in their hayday. 👍
Superlative and beyond!!
If you close your eyes ..you can hear chet Atkins and les paul .amazing
A nice way to spend 5 and a half minutes. The guitar. Or any instrument that takes you away is the key of Life.
If the wete ever another CGP it would certainly be Kenny Vaughn! The man is amaster playyer and a student of music......I don't know what i can say about Tommy ouher than hes on the MT Rushmore of guitar. Taste, timing, tone and technique!
wow and wow and wow again
Two of my favorite favorite guitar players ! What a treat !!!
I love Kenny's time-keeping with his left foot on the after beat when accompanying Tommy. That's swingin'!
Great work from two of the best. Thank you to Tommy and Kenny!
Insanely killer playing by both. I’ve never seen Tony on a Les Paul before and his command of it is wild…wow
I've seen Tommy live twice in recent years. My Father Russ who is now 94 turned me on to him. I discovered Kenny more recently. Two of the best players on Planet Earth at this time. Their level of playing is soaringly high. Not many can play at this level. And, both are highly versatile. Bravo!
Sounds like you guys have played together for years ! 🙏
Sounds like "There'll be some changes made" by Chet or anything by Les Paul himself. What a feel-good jam!
just what I was thinkin
Exactly. T.E. plays also many Chet licks.
I once heard Tommy say "If there was no Chet there would be no TE". At least not in what he became.
Feeling so blessed to witness your greatness up to this year 2023. Been a fan since Stay Close To Me. Thank you for your music sir a fan from Philippines. 😊🙏
Is there anything Tommy can't play on guitar . He is absolutely amazing. He also does amazing percussion solos on acoustic guitar and mixes in guitar in between. He is humble and very approachable. What a talent . GOD HAS BLESSED HIM MIGHTILY.
two absolute guitar giants.
Two of the most amazing guitarists ever!!!
I'm reminded of the Chester and Lester LPs! Enjoyed this very very much
If they keep practicing they might be pretty good some day.... 🤔 😁 Amazing! 👍👍
Two of the worlds best right there!
Sensational. Might be time for Tommy and Kenny to do an album like Chet and Mark did.
Now thats some fine dancing music. Wonderful!
Absolute gold.
Vintage guitars and a beautiful conversation. 👏👏
Excellent gentlemen
Big fan of Tommy. I remember the first time my uncle showed me him playing and my jaw dropping. Ever since I've been learning as many of his songs as I can find. God bless.
Kenny Vaughn makes everyone he plays with sound better. Even a Grand Master CGP like Tommy Emmanuel. Kenny is like usual, laid back as a reclining lounge chair on Waikiki Beach. Not stressed at all about playing with a CGP.
The best guitar in the world 👍👍👍
I always loved the Gibson Barney Kessel model guitars that Vaughan is playing on here.
That was very cool to see both these guys… I’d like to see more of these 2 giants. Maybe a cd together or album or whatever there called these days. These 2 on collaborated work could really speak volumes
Thanks Boys !

The smile on Kenny’s face when tommy drop that first string lightning thing exactly like django would have.
A combination of technical & whimsical & thoroughly enjoyable.
That was so good. I know nothing of playing tgst style but I love to hear it. I have zero jazz chops…all surf, rockabilly and rootsy blues, Keith Richards and Bo Diddley. 😁
Excellent!!!
After all these years, I had no idea a les paul could be played the way Les Paul played. Amazing.
Tommy throwing in the three octave chromatic run like Django! When you steal a lick, steal from the greats, Kenny even laughed at that one …
Couldn't resist clicking to watch a video with the virtuosos collaborating. Splendid!
That Paul has been loved on.. for sure...
This is really nice stuff
OMG, THIS IS AMAZING! I didn't know he sounded that good on an LP...
A craftsman can make use of borrowed tools.
It's beautiful!) Thank you so much!)❤❤❤
Fantastic!
Priceless!!!!
Always a nice surprise to see you play electric like this. Sounded awesome!
NOTHING can cheer you up like Tommy Emmanuel playing his guitar..
The epitomy of uber cool. Love it!!
Some mighty fine pickin' !
Tommy back to his roots on an electric guitar,, As usual,, he makes it sound gorgeous,, :-)
That was as good as it gets. Bob Wills is smiling that smile.
This is the first time I’m seeing Tommy on an electric! Wow! Just wow!!
