- BMW Brake Caliper Rebuild & Painting | Project E30 5 Stud Brakes [E36 & E46/Z4] | 005
In this video, I take the set of new BMW calipers (E36 front and E46/Z4 rear) for my E30 project’s 5-lug swap brake upgrade and get them painted in gold and fully rebuilt with pads ready to go on the car.
If you missed part one where I strip, de-rust and get these calipers in primer, you can go back and watch that here: • Rusty Brake Caliper Re...
This has been a challenging job and taken a lot longer than I expected, however, I’m absolutely over the moon with the result and can’t wait to get that swap done and fit them on the car.
Follow along and discover the various techniques I use to complete this task including how to fit those BMW pad retaining clips or spring clips that are notoriously fiddly, how to avoid pad squeal and rattle with the correct grease, and how these calipers and carriers are reassembled.
Here are the parts I use in the video:

Here are the tools I used:

Next time you see the calipers I will be getting all the parts together for the E30’s 5-lug swap. As I know this is a topic of particular interest to E30 lovers, I’ll be sure to cover in detail exactly what brake calipers and parts you need and why to get the best E30 5 stud swap possible.
So please make sure you subscribe for that, it’s coming soon.

Love the gold color!!
Thanks! I think it was a Honda colour we had left over from a previous project. 😃
@@SPANNERRASH looks great. I know this was from 3 yes ago but better late than never 😂
Great job. Nice to have a bit of bling! That's what dads are for, to show you how to do things😀👍
Thanks Alan, yeah I think they should be a nice touch on the car when it's all built up in its new form.
You're too right, I'm lucky in that respect.
Well done man! Good content and good edit! I feel like iam watching "Restore it" keep up!
Cheers man! That's very kind of you, that guys videos are top notch.
Great job!! They look fantastic!! I'm suspecting that's a bit of tea in the mugs. Here in the states I always have my mug of coffee! : )
Cheers! Haha, we bloody love a cuppa tea round here. :D
Make sure the boot sits in the upper groove of the piston. Otherwise it will just leak and let dust in.
Cheers Jezus, I'll double check that before they're mounted on the car.
@@SPANNERRASH good work nonetheless 👍🏼
Any reason why you didn’t just sandblast the callipers?
Hi Boris, to be honest if I'd have had access to a blasting cabinet and compressor as good as we now now, i'd have gone straight to that. However, this seemed like a better option than what we had at the time. I think the result was still great despite using less than ideal methods. There are a few ways to skin a cat with these things. :)
Hi
Great job. Do I hace a paint code for that gold?
Cheers Luke! It's actually a Honda colour - Blaze Gold YR-531M. Hope that helps :)
Sweet🤪
I was pleased with the results, cheers!
