    The Benson Delay is the result of a very long journey, involving many pedal designers both in and outside of the Benson team. It all started as a dream to create a high quality BBD delay that filled the gaps between higher definition repeats from the likes of the Maxon AD-900 and a tape echo. After many prototypes, the unexpected answer was to employ the common PT2399 chip with the same surrounding compander and filtering that is normally used to reduce BBD noise.
    Long story short, the Benson Delay goes all the way from 30-1250ms while retaining the midrange warmth of analog in addition to higher headroom sounds that allow repeats to float on much longer.
    The LFO section is equally impressive, with a wide modulation speed and depth range plus 3 waveforms to explore within the delay line: Sine, Square and Random.
    Bonus features include a super accurate Tap tempo section designed in France with Quarter, Dotted Eighth, and Eighth note subdivisions.
    You can also blast into spaceship sound by holding the tap switch and of course, turn the delay knob for a smooth takeoff or landing.
    Like all Benson products, the Delay is a labor of love and is built with high quality components in Portland, OR. Check it out at BensonAmps.com

    First jam could be a built to spill song, like Perfect From Now On meets You in Reverse. Andy you’re such a great player, and you do probably the most underrated thing in playing music - inspire. Really gotta get a new delay now 🥵

    I’ve got the Asheville adg-1, boss dm-101, Strymon Volante, Boss RE-202, UA Starlight, and Chase Bliss Mood Mk II. I don’t need this thing, but I love the concept of something that sits between analog and digital that isn’t a tape echo.

    Sounds great, but for what I use a delay for I can just stick with my Greer Black Tiger Delay, which is also PT2399-based. The degradation of the repeats is very, very similar, and I don’t really need modulation or vibrato. The Benson is a really nice pedal, though.

    This is the first time in a long time I've been tempted by a new delay pedal. A few good tricks and extra controls beyond the basics, but not so much to get bogged down and it sounds really nice (doesn't hurt that Andy is such a pro ;-)).

      Caroline Kilobyte is what I’ve used since about six months after it was released.

      Acabo de probar el benson y tengo el rubberneck. Saben diferente. Rubb es más análogo, muddy, la modulación es más gomosa, como un caramelo; benson es más ambiental, la modulación es más dulce y obscura. Rubberneck tiene más control. Me quedo con el Rubber, pero Benson es genial también.

    I am hearing the same input clipping as I heard on Mark Johnston's video. Is the lack of headroom on this causing that buzzy clipping sound?
    Nice sounds and playing as always and I love the design- shoutout to the jack deville ACV deluxe layout.

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  10 місяців тому

      PT2399 are dirty like BBD. That’s just an inherent quality, especially when dialing in delay slower than 500ms.

    • @bichaels
      @bichaels 5 місяців тому

      The clipping sounds like it's there but it sounds pretty natural? Like you'd get with many analog delays I'd say. The EQD Space Spiral clipped hoooorribly if boosted or with hotter humbuckers. I'm really keen to try the Benson as I love PT2399 based delays (other than the potential for nasty clipping...)

  • @MagicPants647
    @MagicPants647 10 місяців тому

    the delay sounds itself aren’t that exciting or unique but I really like the weird modulated tones you can get with it.

    • @therewasascene
      @therewasascene 10 місяців тому +2

      Not necessarily exciting in and of themselves but they give that not-quite-digital-perfectly-crisp sound but aren’t as muddy as an analog. I like it bc I’m an analog guy but it gets lost in a band setting so PT2399s work great to be heard while still having some character/a little high end roll off.

  • @SergioAureo
    @SergioAureo 10 місяців тому

    Another PT2399 delay that is also great is the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. When not modulated, the Benson Delay shares some similarities with it, to my ear.

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  10 місяців тому +2

      Yea, Deep Blue was probably the first 2399 I heard years ago and it left an impression! Benson certainly takes it to another level with the compander/filtering and nearly triple the delay range👍🏻
