Thanks Kevin, it's a good spot. Plenty happening there. I fished Moonta the other week in the wind, just the 1 larger squid. Seems to be pretty much action around sun down. Those kingies were pretty bloody smart.
Hey matt if your after a rat king sometimes they take 60 to 80 gram jigs . Keep one handy and give it a try in under the jetties are where the rats sit
There is always plenty to learn... editing, angles, algorithms... I feel like I live on YT now. 2nd gopro arrived today, and DJI mics are arriving this week. My grandfather always said, "Do it once, do it properly!"
Cheers, Jimmy! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have another GoPro arrive today, so I'll be getting some more angles, and I have a set of DJI wireless microphones arriving too, so sound should get better, too. I'm always looking to improve and am glad it's noticeable. 🎣🙂
I have always used long shanked hooks for gar. Even so - every once in a while they get swallowed which is a pain. Would circle hooks work for gar and reduce the swallowing problem?
For Tommies and Garfish try a floating rig with gents and plenty of burley... I've see Mackeral and King George Whiting off of there. I have a few other vids at Port Hughes that might give you some more ideas. 😊
Port Hughes the kingfish have a very bad habit of swimming around the poles. the best way I have found to get the them is using pilchards, just burley and burley more using the pilchards to the point that the kingfish are wait for the burley.
Yes I had heard that even if you hook them they are hard to land. The Port Hughes general store do an awesome 2kg pilchard burley block for about $10 from memory. So I will need to try that next summer... To be honest, I'd love to just hook up... let alone land 'em... Just to hear that reel squeal! ;)
I am not sure. I know Screwpile Jetty down there is more known for squid and shark fishing. I haven't fished there for decades. Maybe search Screwpile Jetty for relevant vids. Good Luck!
Your useing for kings yes ,but your not useing the right part of the squid , your work it out lol i can give you all the details or everyone will be catching em
Hey Robert, thanks for the comment. Was really my first attempt. Always willing to learn. Shoot me a message on Facebook or Instagram. That would be great. Thanks again!
You realise you are breaking the rules, as you are only allowed to have 2 rods, or 2 handlines, or 1 of each out at any one time! You had handline, live bait, and float rig for Tommies and I think at one time a squid rod too!!
@@ME-qq2dc you're allowed to have 2 rods and a teaser. All good. pir.sa.gov.au/recreational_fishing/rules/gear_bait_and_berley/permitted_fishing_gear/rod_and_handline#:~:text=as%201%20hook).-,Number%20permitted,1%20rod%20and%201%20handline.
Very enjoyable Matt. We've been thinking about trying Port Hughes.

Great stuff m8 keep hunting those kingies it's a challenge but we'll worth it 👌 😀 👍
All good things are worth persisting with! See you out there.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a go sometime!
Yeh I get rats off port augusta wharf and they take live baits but they do take jigs just as aggressively sometimes u just don't need to live bait
@@andyo9310 awesome!
Awesome video mate so happy to see more vids like this going round 🙌🏽
Cheers Jordan. Love what you do too. Would love to do a colab one time!
@@MattsFishingEscapes definitely mate! Rate the editing too, I know how much effort and time goes into releasing a 10 minute vid, so credit to ya 🙌🏽

It was a bit slow those days at Hughes but still love the place. It's a pity you didn't hook a king but they are quiet hit or miss there.
Thanks for introducing yourself, mate. Yeah, I'm glad not to go home empty-handed, but a kingy would have been fun. 🤙

I have heard that circle hooks are better for hook up... I think it comes down to a personal preference.
Great Video, i fish at port hughes regularly but can only catch squid lol, any tips on what type of rig/bait i should be using?

Hey matt! Can you catch snapper landbased at granite island jetty?

Um is the screw pile inside or outside the snapper ban zone
