I love that you added the raid comment and music to this. When my fireteam (after about 3.5 hours and doing everything without help, plus one of my first times on PC) literally said it felt like a 3 man raid. It was pretty awesome to beat.
@@9ballciety which boss? We got stuck on the third boss couldn’t even get to the first damage phase lol. Then we found out some people did 6 phases and we quit then and there. Need a third
Side note for the second encounter: The area where you go to kill the Standard-Bearer will also have some sort of thing that references which symbol will drop from it. Sun has a sun thing above where the Colossus and Standard-Bearer spawns, dog has a dog statue, chalice has a bunch of large chalices around a brazier, and axes have crossed axes on every pillar.
Datto mentioned it already but I cannot stress this enough: solar titans with max resilience and lorely is absolutely incredible with survivability. I like to run calus mini tool with incandescent, since it can also spawn sunspots if an enemy is scorched enough
Absolutely this. Whilst I am a Warlock main, I had decided this season to play my other characters a little more to change it up a little, and I ran this dungeon the first time on my Titan. Oh boy, the max resilience damage resist did so much work, and I only really noticed how much it was doing to keep me alive when I ran the dungeon a second time on my Hunter with something like 30 resilience. Titan survivability right now in PVE is goated.
Will highly recommend Xenophage for everything in here, it one-shots bellkeepers, wrecks colossus in 2 shots, and is no slouch for boss damage. I've been running Sniper, SMG, Xeno in every encounter and it feels great especially in the 3rd encounter where you need to kill keepers quickly
Xeno puts in some work. Its great for ads, yellow bars, and of course it hits solid boss DPS. Plus there's plenty of solar shields throughout the dungeon. Xeno was my go to for sure, plus a good wave frame GL preferably with chain reaction (Forbearance) is great for ad clear. Especially the phalanx, cuz it shoots right through their shields
I started playing in season 15 and I didn’t get to do Vow day 1, but I am glad I got to do a blind run of this on day 1 at least. It felt good figuring out the mechanics and completing the raid without any guides
2 things I recommend for this dungeon: Vault section- whoever you have in charge of doing the bells and killing ads in the center, risk runner is the best thing I can possibly recommend, the overworld has literally nothing but arc shotguns. It felt better to help clear the enemies while my team focused on damage (since theres no time limit anyway). Final fight- on my last 2 runs we had 1 person get BOTH standards, while 1 person did bells and the other either helped with bells or helps keep the colossus busy. Obviously this tip only works if you're teammates are comfortable handling all the enemies alone while the other is fast enough to grab the standards. This does pose a risk however if they die because that means both standards will need collecting again if they had them.
I ran my titan with void, crest of alpha lupi, and witherhoard and it did wonders for me. Also resilience is very important in this. My hunter friend only had tier 2 and was struggling the entire time.
i did this dungeon blind last night and my god.... this is the challenge i want in destiny make me feel overwhelmed with ads i ended up using striga in the last room to keep ads off me and my group and finding out how to do things was perfect probably my favorite dungeon in the game so far
some additional notes: -killing a correct standard bearer gives you 10 additional seconds in the nightmare realm. This applies to killing all of the shades on either side on the first boss too -the centurions spawn when you dunk your standards on the final fight, 2 from each door (4 total) -forbearance with the artifact mod that improves its origin trait is incredible for both slaying everything and staying alive, it kills anything aside from bosses in 1-2 shots and hitting 3-4 enemies is a full heal
Void titan is also VERY strong with add clearing for the whole dungeon. I went with funnelweb w a void well build and hot swapping witherhoard and autoloading/explosive light rocket for dps and I basically had an over shield the whole time w 10 resilience
Definitely the best of the 5 dungeons. I love the combat challenge, though I do wish the final encounter would chill out with the snipers. The mechanics were cool, the bosses felt like mini raid encounters and it was hard. The weapons are super cool as well, there isn't a single one I don't like
First encounter tip- each of the rooms in the nightmare realm has a statue or symbol in it (war beast, chalice, sun, axes) and the standard bearers will spawn in the two rooms corresponding to the symbols you need to bring, which are highlighted in the normal realm
I can't really pin it down, but the change in dattos tone of voice, when talking about enemy density here vs. His first impressions of s17, is so nice. You can hear a spark of excitement, talking about all the "off-meta" guns you can bust out here
although this video is a year old, ive solo flawlessed this dungeon, have around 30 full clears and have the god roll of every weapon from this dungeon i am still gonna watch this cuz i like listening to datto talk
For the 2nd encounter, you can also tell which symbol is which location in the Nightmare side by the statues in the middle of the section where you would kill adds to spawn the Standard Bearer.
Quick tip for anyone doing the first encounter: When doing the ‘gauntlet’ killing visions, if you have a special grenade launcher with Vorpal (for example Pardon Our Dust), it will make the visions ‘one-shot’, meaning just a little damage from any source will kill it. Using this in combination with grenades and explosive wellmaker will clean out your rooms and hallways very fast and give you wells for regenerating abilities and extra weapon damage. Very good for a little boost in damage when going for boss dps as well as giving you more time to do so as you’ll be very wuickly done with your rooms. I have personally been done with my visions before I’ve even gotten close to the exiting door without even trying to lmao
I was able to go through it completely blind with my OG D1 fireteam, and it was some of the most fun I have had in Destiny in a long time. (And I have been having fun the last couple seasons).
I played Revenant Hunter with Ager's for the boss room and ended the raid with double the kills my teammates had. Freezing is phenomenal for ad clear, I had the uptime to use S&S every time we entered the Bell realm, and Ager's super mode is a solid backup dps option for when your heavy runs out.
This dungeon is absolute insanity yet so good, my third clear trying to help my clanmates took 1 1/2 hours on Caiatl alone only because my team kept dying to the ads ALSO: Xenophage is THE BEST in the last encounter to take out the colossus and bellkeepers with ease.
Struggled last night with only two of us trying to duo it. The combat intensity of the final fight was more than we had expected and we didn't figure out the damage buff mechanic for the bells.
Yeah falling guillotine is really good for this. Lament will do more damage and can one phase but I recommend the guillotine just because it is easier to use
For weapons, I have been running Polaris Lance with Catalyst and it has been fantastic. Better range than Sunshot for the Psion Snipers, and Perfect Fifth means you almost never have to reload if you can hit headshots.
I gave this a go as a solo player, ran blind and figured out Galran, but god damn the combat is tough. I'm at the point where I can get one damage phase before succumbing to a mistake. I also gave Lament a try, and it didn't feel like he was running from me, but he absolutely runs and hides when you get close to a bell. I guess that's Bungie's way of ensuring the bell isn't the camping spot during a damage phase.
It should be noted, once you have the damage buff on caiatl, you don't have to stand next to the bell anymore, so if you are using rockets (ghorn takes out both bell keepers in one shot) simply get the buff then jump away and fire at the boss from a safer distance.
Not sure if this was mentioned but explosive damage runs the risk of accidently ringing the bells. In my experience it was really easy during first encounter especially because of how claustrophobic the room is. Wave frames, sunshot, grenades, firefly, even the bellkeepers exploding from a precision kill can deal damage to the bell resulting in an accidental ring. Protip, don't crit the bellkeepers, land a final blow to their foot or something if they are anywhere near the bell.
My personal loadout (which worked greatly) was Chill Clip Deliverance for the first 2 encounters, for add clear (you hit the biggest target twice or thrice and suddenly everything is dead) and Sleeper for DPS, while for Caitl I switched to Izanagi + Rocket Launcher.
Ya know I just completed the dungeon for the first time about 3 hours ago. I gotta say it was a lot of fun. It wasn't hard and the mechanic was easy to get almost immediately. Definitely gonna run it at least once a day.
Me and a buddy tried a duo blind run and took us 4 hours to get to the final boss. We tried for an hour and stopped, looked up a guide and went back the next day when our third buddy could play. The difference in difficulty and enjoyment between 2 player and 3 is like night and day. Hated duos, but 3 team was fun
Agreed. I was getting shredded w my last build and couldn't stay up for long. Once i got 80+ Res w Assassins cowl for my hunter. Its a joke now lol. Dps and Survivability are key in the boss room(s)
Good tip for the master, if you are a solar titan run armamentarium with healing nades and if any of your other allies are running solar have them run the fragment of solace. this increases the duration of the restoration effect. You should also set yourself up for grenade generation. Best tip for that is if you have it run melee well maker and use well of ordanace so whenever you grab a solar well you generate grenade energy. you can also combine this with bountiful wells with even more melee well makers. This not only helps you but your teammates drastically. And you don't have to worry about a melee recharging either with the throwing hammer.
I've found on the Caiatl fight that the centurions only spawn when you plant a standard, not after a set amount of time, so you can control the pace of the fight by killing the psion adds THEN plant a standard, then the centurions spawn, so you don't get overwhelmed.
I spent 8 hours (with breaks, likely about 5-6 real hours) trying to solo this dungeon on day 1. I failed, but I at least reached Caitl (where i gave up after several, several tries). Called in clanmates, done the boss first try in 15 minutes.
9:40 Most fusions will either one-shot them or get them very, very low. Sweep your shots a little to get more than one with each and you'll do fine clearing them out. Couple of more things about the Caiatl encounter - going through the middle bell spawns two Bellkeepers on either side. Don't use the middle bell if you can help it. On top of this, I didn't actually have this happen in our runs, but using a bell causes it to despawn in the normal realm. We ended up having an instance where we had to go back twice in between dunking any standards and used that last bell, but I don't know what will happen if you end up running out of them. Not sure if this is a bug or intended as a mechanic, but you should consider that you're limited to three trips into the nightmare realm per set of standards.
Thought I would give some clarification about the S17 seasonal mod: Glaive of Dreams. There are some weird caveats to using it. A) It's more of a +15sec timer rather than a 2x timer, and B) it only applies while your glaive is currently out. This means if you have a non-glaive out when picking up an essence, it doesn't apply. If you switch weapons from a glaive to say your DPS weapon, it will subtract 15 seconds from your current unstable essence timer. You will immediately lose unstable essence if it is less than 15 seconds remaining.
Found this issue on my solo run. Do you think losing buff timer permanently when switching weapons is intended? I also lost time from instant supercastung
Thats actually not how it works. You can pick it up with your other weapons but you cant swap to the glaive or it will cut the time -15 like you didnt get it at all. Picking it up with the glaive also make you not able to switch as you say.
Be aware of major bugs in the last encounter: not being teleported into nightmare realm for damage phase, being teleported it not working then being teleported again, dying randomly from shooting the bells to enter the nightmare realm, emoting after beating caitl and not being teleported back to collect final chest, etc.
It is also worth noting that the last encounter is at 1570 light on normal mode, so keep that in mind when doing buildcrafting. Overall this is definitely the most intense and densest dungeon we have had so far, so survivability and general add clear is far more important than DPS. All the bosses also have pretty low health to make up for it, so even if you're not bringing meta DPS loadout you will still clear it fine. IMO build priority is survivability >>> add clear > dps
Lament worked wonders for Gahlran especially as a solo blade barrage hunter. I could basically just hack at his groin with reckless abandon and then drop a healing nade on my way back to the bell
Consecration and sol invictus was doing WORK. Huge add clear and could one hit the bell keepers. I ran elemental wells and HoIL and used my melee more than I care to admit
Stormchaser with firing line is my bread and butter for Caiatl. My group is consistently able to pull off one-phases with it and everyone else using legendary linears. I expect Whisper would be good as well, but proccing Whispered Breathing might take too long for the 10 second window you have
Me and my brother duo completed the last fight in 2 phases (techinically) she was left with a sliver of health so we had todo another rotation, galahhorn and red herring with last impression. melted.
i've been looking forward to this... seeing bungie emphasise dungeon every time they say duality makes me think they thought people would confused which is amusing
on my blind run we never figured out the damage buff mechanic for caital and ended up brute forcing her (we probably inadvertently got the buff a few times). reminded me of a lesser version of your day 1 shuro chi clear
I'll say this trying this day one was defiantly interesting figuring out the mecahins was fun if annoying in some places but still an interesting experience to do indeed edit: aslo a helpful tip mind aoe damage when killing things near bells as that will ring them and teleport you so if your using anything with aoe be mindful of where your killing ads cause you can accidents teleport your team and possibly miss out on a damage phase
Really love that we didnt get another puzzle boss mechanic but finally again something about combat skill, if PVE was more like THIS i would play it wayyy more
First chest is in the statue puzzle room. There is a door that is slightly cracked up and to the left of where you enter. The second is in the room with the large pillar underneath it, the one right before the boss encounter. Under the pillar there is a memory and a little grate like opening you cab slide under. Chest is in there.
I may not be a dungeon guy but I want that pulse rifle. looks so damn good! just wish they had an auto rifle or a handcannon that looks like that. love the nightmare theme

I wonder if datto has this music playing in the background when he has to teach Danielle and Jez new dungeons or raids
Belligerent and numerous, thank you Morbo
That raid music. 11/10
Lament actually works very well. Last encounter my fireteam and I when we used lament did 7/8 of his health in one go
*her health, but thats just a nitpick tbh
Lament worked wonders for Gahlran especially as a solo blade barrage hunter. I could basically just hack at his groin with reckless abandon and then drop a healing nade on my way back to the bell
Arbalest / anti-barrier for the phalanxes is incredible for the second encounter.
I expect Whisper would be good as well, but proccing Whispered Breathing might take too long for the 10 second window you have
Me and my brother duo completed the last fight in 2 phases (techinically) she was left with a sliver of health so we had todo another rotation, galahhorn and red herring with last impression. melted.
I enjoyed using a glave for the whole dungeon. The shield helped me a lot and u can one shot psion snipers. :)
The return of the music.
You know shit's getting real when Datto busts out First To Last - Gunnar Olsen
she actually doesn't go to a random bell, she goes to the bells you've been ringing to get the stands in the order you use them.
Considering how close every enemy is, and how the bosses rush towards you, Swords are your play. Top Tier.
I was having a ton of fun with Ruinous Effigy!
i've been looking forward to this... seeing bungie emphasise dungeon every time they say duality makes me think they thought people would confused which is amusing
on my blind run we never figured out the damage buff mechanic for caital and ended up brute forcing her (we probably inadvertently got the buff a few times). reminded me of a lesser version of your day 1 shuro chi clear
I'll say this trying this day one was defiantly interesting figuring out the mecahins was fun if annoying in some places but still an interesting experience to do indeed
edit: aslo a helpful tip mind aoe damage when killing things near bells as that will ring them and teleport you so if your using anything with aoe be mindful of where your killing ads cause you can accidents teleport your team and possibly miss out on a damage phase
dyslexia goes BRRRRR
I'll definitely be needing my friends to squad up for this before i try solo 😱
Really love that we didnt get another puzzle boss mechanic but finally again something about combat skill, if PVE was more like THIS i would play it wayyy more
Impressive, very nice
Completely LOST IT hearing the Futurama reference at 15:39
After 5 hours me and my friends finally did this dungeon without guides, it feels good, but also i came here to find the chests that would be nice
First chest is in the statue puzzle room. There is a door that is slightly cracked up and to the left of where you enter. The second is in the room with the large pillar underneath it, the one right before the boss encounter. Under the pillar there is a memory and a little grate like opening you cab slide under. Chest is in there.
@@musc96 He literally showed these locations, dude.
Hey just wanted to let you know I got an ad for a D2 boosting service on this video. Didn’t think that was something you’d be comfortable endorsing.
I may not be a dungeon guy but I want that pulse rifle. looks so damn good!
just wish they had an auto rifle or a handcannon that looks like that. love the nightmare theme
13:04 This man is not singing Ring my bell lmao 🤣
I'm already grinding for my solo flawless, but I'll watch the video anyway.
Insane dungeon loved every minute 🔥❤
Sun shot with the hammer build is so fun
