Great to see you two! I'm smoking Sarges favorite Mixture 79 while I watch this lol. My grandfather quit smoking in 93 when a carton of Amphora went to 43 dollars a carton.
I’m glad I found your channel matches I’m sorry I found it too late to get to know you while you were still here but if your looking in from time to time your story’s and thought’s really speak to me! Hope your enjoying a bowl full of haunted bookshop wherever you are!
I'm guessing John is just being polite about the Bayou Morning and is thinking.. I wish this was Haunted Bookshop lol. Great video, chemistry , a joy to watch. Take care!
AWESOME STUFF 👏🏻👏🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻🤣😃😃....HELLO MY FRIENDS 👏🏻 well welcome to the Virginias I love it!John it's definitely great to see you guys today wish I could have been there...well I'm heading over to the Sarges video right now Hope you had a great Thanksgiving 🍗 🦃 😀 take care see you again soon....Sarge definitely has to next year 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
You brave men are doing good work there! Virginia and the VaPers! What a great band they were 😉 Back to the roots! Luv it😊😊😊😊👏👏👏👏 Like that perfect smoke idea, its like the perfect date but much more satisfying...and...easier to remember! 😆
A wonderful tradition. My Thanksgiving would not be complete without out it. One of my favorite lines is one of Sarge's similes: "It goes down like a brushhog". 5:46:. LMAO! Thanks, guys.---Todd
Awesome John great video buddy you guys are amazing i truly enjoy the videos you both do together. I look so forward to it john thanks for sharing. With us. Enjoy the rest of your meet up happy smokes😀😀😀😀😀👋👋👋👋💨💨💨💨💨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 best regards peter. The Smooooove piper.
My first smoke was from an old pack of lucky strikes my granddad had left in his man cave. They were easily over 40 years old, and dried out. Took a sniff of one of them and it still smelled really good so I lit it up. Tasted pretty good too, didn’t inhale though. I get the same smell from higher quality Virginia pipe tobaccos. Right now my favorite is Orlik Dark Strong Kentucky. Smells amazing in the tin as well as tastes amazing. I’ve also taken a likening to sutliffs Maple Street. Really good stuff there.
I'm sitting here enjoying a great evening on a dark porch smoking Haunted Bookshop and what watching a great video by Sarge and Matches860 when all of the sudden I heard a shoutout to Old khackies!... Thanks Sarge and Matches for the shoutout. Keep up the Great video's my friends. Wes
I have learned over the years never say never to any pipe tobacco, The reason is you just never know. I am also glad that you guys are expanding your horizons! 😜
My first packs were 25 cents. Winston or Marlboro. And a big can of Flying Dutchman was nine dollars or less. Of course I’m older than dirt. Btw Flying Dutchman match isn’t even close to the original.
Great video guys! I look forward to these every year. I've been enjoying some Cult Anonymous lately - a straight Virginia with a little bit of vanilla topping (not too much). A nice experience.
I love me some c&d bayou morning. Its definitely my favorite vaper. It also mixes well with burley like haunted bookshop. I loled to mix it 50/50 with either old Joe krantz or star of the east.
Sun Bear was a C&D small batch, limited edition. Penny Farthing is a GL Pease blend, produced by C&D, but not a limited edition. 5100 was good stuff. Nobody did Virginias better than Mike and Mary. Nice to see you two together again.
Worst smokes I have ever had were straight Virginias and VaPers. The absolute best smokes I have ever had were a straight Virginia and a VaPer! So, what was the difference?? Age! 11yo Samuel Gawith FVF, 7yo Samuel Gawith Cabbie's Mixture; they were sublime! My first "ultimate smoke" came from Seattle Pipe Club Plumb Pudding Reserve.
This blend is wonderful, strangely enough I had a perfect smoke with Autumn Evening from Cornell and Diehl. It was in September on a humid night. I sat on a porch, perhaps it was nicotine talking but, damn it tasted like caramel candy and wonderful smoke. It may be beyond the tobacco, transcending smoke, depends on what you ate, what humidity and how you feel in general. Anyhow, Thanksgiving Day is a quality smoke. I give it as gifts. Thanks you guys.
Good to see you guys had a nice time today. Happy Thanksgiving! I have a jarred straight bulk Virginia from Lane...it’s a few years old now. I pull it out every now & then & it seems to get better & better with age.
Ralph McCulley I’m fairly certain it’s unflavored. It was one of the first tobaccos that I purchased after about a 20-year hiatus (my friends & I had pipes in college but really didn’t know what we were doing).
Making that OT plus holiday pay plus equal time off later. Cops...what can you say. Been there done that. By the way, C&D Exclusive is a pretty good Virginia blend. It needs to be stuck in a jar for a few years though. Good to see you guys smoking in again.
I like Virginias and especially VAPers simply because I don’t smoke them all the time but as a break from my normal goto English and Burley blends. It’s always a pleasure to return to Virginias after a while 👍
Happy Thanksgiving guys: I have been a Virginia smoker for at least 30 years. Top of the list is Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake, Best Brown Flake and one with a little perique involved Louisiana Flake. Also John, if you want a little Burley hit with your Virginia flake try Gawith and Hoggarth Best Brown #2 (not to be confused with Samuel Gawiths Best Brown Flake) and of course as I am sure you know Macbaren HH Old Dark Fired will give you a nice Burley buzz.. On the lighter side try Capstan blue label and Capstan Gold label, Orlik Golden Slices, Peterson Flake (the former Dunhill Flake) and Dan Tobaccos Hamborger Veermaster. I still smoke the occasional Latakia mixtures but Virginias have always been my first choice. Keep puffin.
I have been doing this thing where I take one jar at a time of stuff I have open and smoke it till it's gone. Oddly enough, the one I'm working on right now is Orlik Golden Sliced. So I know exactly what you guys are talking about. I just got a bunch of the sutliff codger blends, including revelation. Good stuff! Great video Fellas! Oh by the way, was just curious if Sarge's freezer has an ice maker? I had one that did, and that sound is the ice maker part trying to draw in water, and there's a switch you can shut that off... Anyhow, Shalom :)
As a reminder, I just begun piping/smoking at age 49. I'm 50, so about a year and a half into it. I don't drink, but I'm a big fruit guy, so I've been pairing my tobacco with various fruits. I'm grateful to live down the street from a Farmer's Market. I haven't found my niche yet. Virginia's, Burley's, Periques, etc... But I appreciate all the information you guys give. Keep making them, I'll keep watching...
Sarge, after watching this video, my curiosity got the best of me. I had to order some of that Sutliff Virginia Slices. I just received it in the mail today from Smoking pipes. After 45+ years of smoking mostly aero's, I have to agree with you this tobacco is fantastic. I also received some of their match "Revelation" can't wait to try that one also. I'm glad I caught this video and thank you for peeking my interest in trying it. Keep'em lit and stay safe out there brother. John
In my humble opinion Sutliff got two really nice tinned tobaccos ;Crumble Cake/Red Virginia and Red Virginia with Perique also Crumble Cake ,the rest is forgetful.
Great to see you together again! And what a coincidence that you two are smoking the same blends I just got today!!! I recommend Bayou Morning.., I always imagined this blend would somehow match your tastes. And thanks to John I ordered some John Patton blends and now they are my basic daily smokes... Dark Horse and Storm Front.... Delicious....Did Sarge have any turkey leftovers floating around? Enjoy!
Gentalmen I do believe Sarge's Freezer has learned a few new notes in its attempt to provide background music. War Horse plug , Grabow Free hand. happy smoking.
If you like the perique try the Bayou Night it has some burley in it. Its got some bite too. More earthy than sweet, but it pretty interesting. I've never tried the Bayou Morning yet. Somebody sent me a 1.5 ounce pouch of Sutliffs Match Evening which is a match to Dunhill Nightcap. Never had the original, but their match is pretty decent. Not a big English lover, but its pretty good. Happy Thanksgiving guys.
I’m going to have to get some haunted bookshop, And have a matches remembered session. RIP Matches. I know I’ll see you oboe day when I come through the pearly gates; and I know you’ll be the reason the clouds are so dense that day, you and your Friday savinelli.

Bayou Morning was very good, those Sutliff Virginia Slices were well worth today's drive!
When I started smoking a pack was 30 cents in the machine, pull the knob and you got a book of matches with them
Perique only comes from one farm? Who knew? Nice pipe from the stinker. Looks like you guys had a good time. 👍🏼

As I said, I will & do smoke Virginias, even straight Virginias, but I gotta have my Burley.
never knew that was how perique was produced
Somewhere there is a video about the modern day process.
