----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRANSCRIPT:
Question: What was it like having Evan Wright embedded with you?
Eric Kocher: Oh, with Evan. You know, when he first stepped in... it’s funny. Brad Colbert was my team leader in Afghanistan. He had a very strict policy not to talk to the reporters, not to interact with them or anything because they’re always going to spin shit and plus there’s a lot of stuff that we have that is somewhat confidential that doesn’t need to be going out to the media.

RIP Evan Wright. Thanks for your stories.
Write it as you see it
Hi
read book watched box set and all the extra. way better than anything and what awards won?
.
Police that mustache!!!!!
+ReidC
Hairs hangin' from his face, beyond his mouth areas? He is unsightly, unsanitary, and in violations of Godfather's grooming standards.
Ok Major Sixta
shouldn't that be "POLICE YOUR 'STACHEE!!!!!"? Including Sixtas pulsing neckvein?
ReidC hey turd, scrape that Hippy shit off yer lip
Ya'll look like a bunch of Elvis's
rumor has it that the pic of his girlfriend is still being passed around the recon community to this day.
Picture of a girlfriend?.. Hmmm... does she have a big stain on her face?..
YES!!!!! that's the one!!! someone once said it has more DNA on it then an FBI crime lab.
@@riphaven I traded it for some PEQ-2 batteries this morning.
@@ThisNewHandleSystemSucks yea probably lol
@@ThisNewHandleSystemSucks ray you pimped her out
R.I.P Evan. This hit hard. He wrote a great piece on a GREAT unit. So sad to hear that he has passed. So many people are hurting and there are WAY to few options for people suffering.
stay frosty up there reporter 🤝
I don't care what anyone says.. Evan Wright has balls bigger than probably 90% of America..
Pretty much true when it comes to most people. Most if it is really just a show but when it comes down to it they'll big balls becomes small.
And the other 10% is anyone in the military or a vet with the exeption of Cameron Hanes
That why his balls got smashed in his Chem suit...
The fact he's chill when a bunch of marine dudes cuff him and drive him out to the desert mafia style, yeah.
@@johnsteiner3417he just thought it was a fun ride

The story is so suspenseful... I'm only part way through, and I gotta wonder... Will he ever find that picture of his girlfriend?
"Last time I saw her she was doing all of H&S company"
Rest in peace.
That story about him getting kicked out of Pendleton is fucking disgusting. Shame on those guys!
I was like, they do know he is a reporter right lol?
"[the book] was too hard on the officers."
Its not possible to be too hard on the officers.
Thank God for officers because without them men like Trombley or that racist bastard would be in charge.
@@markbeaudry2469 This comment makes no sense, those guys could still become Officers.
Also, Trombley wasn't bad, everyone just thought he was a Pyscho because war never phased him.
ROTC (I'm talking about the one that actually makes you an officer, not JROTC) isn't hard at all, but the instructors expect you to hold yourself accountable for EVERYTHING by the time you're halfway to commissioning. None of them that I've met, enlisted or officer, would want a writer to hold back on their critique of officers. And these are the guys training most of the officers in the military.
It is of you lie about them.
@@rudrashakti108 Officers lie to cover up one another's DV and DWIs then publicly burn their enlisted men for the same infractions. The average officer wouldn't make it with the same oversite as his enlisted men.
It seems like the critique of “too much officer bashing” comes exclusively from staff&o, which checks out because they’re some of the most fragile mfs I’ve ever met
The incompetence of the junior officers was one of the most realistic parts of the series
Amen
how much competence are you expecting from some of the least experienced members of the team?
Not all the junior officers! We see one very competent 1LT, we also see one very competent Captain in the sister company. We see two incompetent Captains, and one 'off-screen' LT who makes a solid fuckup based on a fuckup by one of his subordinates.
So sketchy. Like just sad how incompetent and egotistical some men are!
Besides Lt. Fick.
Generation kill is one of my most favorite movies of all time. It's not flashy, scary, or action packed, but it's real and genuine and that's what I really love about it. Finding out about Evan Wright's death just sent my system into shock.
Still no intel on JLo’s status?
I just wanna know if he actually ran serpentine during the sniper encounter?
Ray's dialogue in Generation Kill particularly reminded me of my friend who was a crew chief and later warrant officer and pilot for the army in Iraq.
You should write about the Miami Mutilator. That case is waaay more sophisticated.
that's what i was thinking evan wright from hotline miami
PAPA FRANKU im pretty sure this is who evan wright is based off, literally irl evan wright
@@BeefNuggetStew Agreed
that was pretty fucking ninja
He I come to say "nice reference" 7 years later
RIP legend
generation kill is the best series iv seen
His teeth are scary
I was there when they Premeired this on Pendleton. It was a huge deal. didnt end up watching the show until 2009 or 10 after i got out though.
@5:46 Evan Wright, your following answer here is the reason why I will pay attention to your work. You've cut through the bullshit in more ways than one.
i hope evan knows how much we appreciate his work
those SNCO's should have been thrown in the brig honestly, they had no right to handcuff you and try to leave you out in the desert
@8:00 AND this was done in the continental U.S.
Is he offended by it
Now I mean
He should write about the Miami mutilator
Ewan seems like such a sweet, intelligent and caring person. And so talented! I loved both the book and the series
I just finished re-watchibg the show 2nd time seeing it. Love it. So cool. I loved all the radio chatter.. godfather how copy? ECT.. 🙂🙌
That kinda of humor that offends and horrifies other people keeps combat vets sane.
Black comedy helps alleviate the stress for sure.
I'm no vet and the last thing I want to see is live combat but its the best kind of humour bar none
whoa, wait a second....... Marines can read?
Fucking crayon eaters!!! Reeee!!!
Just picture books words scare me
@6:50 Evan talks about Marine culture because that's who he was embedded with. But the reality is, all branches are like this. I was AD USMC, then Army Nat Guard for a year, then AD Navy on submarines for 10 years. The people who insulted you the most, were the ones who cared the most. Those poor bastards who never fit in were treated like spies & traitors. We always thought they would whine to the command about how we had fun.
His death was a shock, but I knew so many post-war suicides that it shouldn't have been a shock.
Wow, this is criminally underviewed.
Evan; That you so much for writing about these men and the reality that is war. Those of us that have been through the fires of hell itself appreciate your showing us as no more or less human than anyone else.
YOURE STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN ELVIS
Not wanting to be involved in the production of the show feels like a very Reporter thing to do
Evan definitely isnt wrong about how some dude can come of as a racist then moments later him and his black friend talk about joining border patrol
What does his girlfriend look like?😊
You're mustache airs are in violation!!!!
So basically this guy did become a marine
Not really.
RIP Rolling Stone.
Rest easy Reporter.
Police that mustache
Love this speech.
It’s what the Marine Corps is all about. It’s true.
Reporter, what the fuck was that?
I love how he mentioned how bad it really is in inner cities at the end. It was proven that you where safer as a solider fighting in the Iraq than you where walking the streets of the ghettos.
Po-lees that moostash!
Merekee is watchin'
GOTTA MAINTAIN THE GROOMIN STANDARDS!
woo i thought it was that guy from aurora movie theater shooting batman-james holmes..
I looked up my name and I’m disappointed
Lol
Thank you Evan Wright.
8:15 Holy Fuck! America bro, America!
He looks nothing like Tobias Beecher!
At 7:37, ANY organization has the 'cheerleader' types who don't want anything negative to make it out into the world, no matter how realistic. Cartoonist Bill Mauldin in WW2 was plagued by those types, and Gen Patton wanted his work removed from the newspapers. The rank and file always love it, but now the ones who want the glossy part only shown. If you suppress THAT, you lose the faith of your people. As an Army LT (and I wasn't any better than any other LT out there, I'm sure), I used to call it as it was without gloss. I often said, "I'm not gonna put powered sugar on a cow pie and tell you it's chocolate cake". That didn't go over well for those over me and the Battalion XO used to tell me all the time he didn't like that I wasn't putting the gloss on everything
EVAN WRIGHT THE MAN!!
Teeth
Those NCO's pissed me off, what did the unit you were with for the invasion think of the men kidnapping it?
A dying breed
Season 2?!?
240p resolution? Really??
This is why I'm going to keep a journal when I'm in the corps
Civilians will never get what it's like to be a Marine. That's Why we could care less about their opinion.
can anyone give me the download link of the book?
It was a good movie. but I still think he had a more liberal/anti type of slant on it. He really REALLY kinda emphasized how we are stupid and racist. Soldiers say some dirty shit but there are alot of sophisticated and smart guys too
And I mean even the title of the Story itself is kind of accusatory
If you read his book there's a lot of variety there in how soldiers act.
That said there are a lot of "unpleasant" remarks in the military.
Think you are quite mistaken, since the sole aim of the book and series was show things as they happened. Others can slap whatever label on it they wish afterwards.
Larry Durocher Shiiitt...one of our favorite past times in Iraq was to sit around, in our downtime, and trade dead baby jokes. The deployed military are some of the nastiest, rude, crude, racist, homophobic people on the planet. But, most are also damn intelligent and would never say such things back in the States, and they certainly don't believe any of it.
Yeah, I think you're missing the point if that's what you got out of it. I'm a veteran, and I'm re-reading the book right now, and am loving it. He's reporting all of it, the good and the bad. And I appreciate he's coming at his war experience with an open mind. When I read it I'm hearing the voice of a guy who is typically anti-war, but is seeing that the reality of things isn't as cut and dried as people back home want to think it is, that there's way more grey than black-and-white.
As far as the "stupid and racist" versus "sophisticated and smart," what Evan is trying to convey is that it's not an either/or. A lot of those Recon Marines ARE sophisticated and smart, AND they say racist things, but the racist things are a result of them being in an environment where they're all vying for dominance. It's part of the culture, and like the reality of wartime observations, are not as cut and dried.
He is a badass takes out gangs in his spare time.
Doesnt shed blood unless needed
