He looks like an old Ed Helms
omfg xD
Juan Esteban Dude, don’t steal from YMS.
spittin' image
He looks like a guy who looks like Ed Helms who hasn’t slept in 12 years. 😁😁😁😁
Lol I clicked on this video thinking it was Ed Helms
Also one of the best visits yet. Really spoke about the films and what he loved about them. Great choices too
I agree, more than stuff like, "This is such a good movie, this is such a good movie." He seemed very comfortable and insightful.
more guests like this who have actually something to say about the films they choose, great video
This guy a genius though thats not fair to other people
Advance congrats for Oscar

@@davidparker7216 Glad to have helped.
Good job.
Gotta get Richard Linklater in the closet.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssss!!
That could take 12 years.
That is borderline experimental!
That's right Jay.
Sounds forceful, but I agree
We need more animation in the Criterion collection!
Suggestions?
The Boss Baby
paprika, perfect blue.
The Illusionist, Allegro Non Troppo, Anomalisa, King and the Mockingbird, Persepolis, Metamorphoses/Winds of Change, Triplets of Belleville...
Jaime Lopez The Plague Dogs, When The Wind Blows (Already have a new BFI Bluray restoration, but US needs a release), Yellow Submarine and The Rabbi’s Cat
Only a minor quibble. Angel at my Table is a New Zealand film and Jane Campion a New Zealand filmmaker. Please don't take this as pedantry or criticism. It did have Australian and British backers. We're a tiny nation and frequently overlooked.
Love listening to him talk about these films, seems like a likeable person too. Favorite coset picks video so far.
"Also very 70s, but that's not a bad thing" 100% agreed.
I watched the film because I read it was one of a few films inspired by 8 1/2. Wasn't sure what to expect, but had low expectations since I'm not a big fan of Musicals. Was blown away by how amazing this film is and was very pleased when it got added to the collection.
I read this as he said it
One of the best episodes imo, great to see the man behind Coco having such an intresting taste, especially Punch Drunk Love, I haven’t heard a single person saying that it’s their favorite PTA movie before.
It looks like he hasn't slept since 1995.
lyricsfromsweden most video game developers and animators look like death. It’s like being a film director working 16 hour days but instead of a few months it’s four to five years of hell.
Who could blame him what makes you think why pixar has been very successful
I genuinely don’t think he has slept since toy story
Little known fact = the bags under his eyes have their own zip codes.
Probably hasn’t since working with Pixar.
Pixar don’t let this dude sleep
I watched Coco just last night and today i get a video of the director's criterion closet picks !!! Must be fate
I love the variety in film industry professionals Criterion brings to these videos! One minute you've got mainstream actors like Cera and a Disney/Pixar animator discussing classic films, and another there's directors who produce films in the actual collection like del Toro, to critics and philosophers like Zizek, to TV comedians like Bill Hader. It's fascinating to see how the same passion for great cinema is felt among people from all kinds of creative industries.
Absolutely especially now that videogame auteur Hideo Kojima has been in the closet now too :O
My top 5 most wanted guests to be on
1: David Lynch
2: Martin Scorsese
3: David Fincher
4: Tarantino
5: Terence Malick (even tough that would never happen)
“Yes, yes, YES” to David Lynch!
I would love to see what Finchy would pick
Malick made an appearance at a Q&A for the SXSW premier of Song To Song. Might see a lot more of him come Radegund.
Ya I saw that, was cool seeing him but I doubt he would have any interest doing something like this
Nothing's impossible. They recently made to invite Denis ,Huppert & Varda. So .. yeah lets keep hopin 🤗
Punch drunk love also a top 5 for me.
Really? I love PTA, but if doesn’t rank in my Top 4 of his.
@@neworleansguy10 Me neither. Not sure what they see that we don't.
neworleansguy10 it’s hard to explain. There’s just nothing else quite like it.
"... and I 'm here in Mekka", he nailed it!
More PTA please and of course Kubrick and Bergman
George Papageorgiou yes there needs to be more PTA
I bet 2001 will be Spine 950 or 1000. And I would like to see Hard Eight in the Collection, due to lack of availability. Haven’t they released all of Bergman’s films?
Star Fucker Eh? No, far from all. Bergman made over 60 films.
For Kubrick, I don't think any more Criterions are coming. Major studios are still holding onto the rights for those films and since all of those are considered their decade defining classics, they already make a priority out of, and do a pretty good job restoring them.
Magnolia!!!
Not an Unkrich film, but good lord WALL•E is in the collection now! Who could've predicted that?
Punch Drunk Love 👌🏼💗
Coco is a masterpiece!
The Bicycle Thief, All That Jazz, 8 1/2 and Repo Man have the be the most often-picked films by the visitors of the closet. Also Salo, the Dekalog and the Cassavetes collection.
Please have Jane Campion as a guest!
Lee Unkrick is awesome!
"Seconds" is an underrated film. Far better than I had anticipated. Recommended.
Get Miyazaki in there
Punch drunk love is so underrated, My third favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film behind There will be blood and magnolia.
Everyone seems to mention Bicycle Thieves or The Bicycle Thief as I knew it. Truly intimate personal film for me.
I could’ve watched this for like 2 hours!
Saw a damp patch in the ceiling at 4:12 top left corner
Coco is a good Pixar film. A well worth watching fairy tale.
Finally someone else who adores Punch-Drunk Love!!!
Nice unpretentious picks.
I saw Seconds for the first time late last year. Great film. Didn't feel like an American film at all.
European, perhaps?
Carl Rees haven't seen it but it's on my list to buy
James Wong Howe! Woho!!
mcleat Everythting you say is exactly true! More people need to speak of Howe. Howe fans unite!
Big fan of his movies
Excellent choices and really nice explanations.
When people discuss what their favorite Adam Sandler movie, they usually settle on either, "Blilly Madison" or "Happy Gilmore".
In my eyes, without a doubt, it would be, "Punch Drunk Love". Likely due in large part to PTA, but still;)
E: FOrMatTIng
Punch-Drunk Love or Meyerowitz Stories
Him saying Punch-Drunk Love is in his top 5 of all time made me so goddamn happy.
So glad so many people recommend "Seconds." It just blew my mind. Can't stop thinking about it.
Ju Dou (1990) needs Criterion treatment. It's a stunning film.
Great choices and nice for An Angel at my Table to get a mention, it gets mentioned far too little and it's a phenomenal film.
He really loves his job. Inspiring.
I just love how he introduced himself. Some of these I need to look up first. And those who remember to say thank you are great. I don't think I would remember.
Get Vincent Gallo to do this
Lee seems like such a sweet and nice man. I guess you kind of have to be if you make family friendly films for a living.
You are an awesome person Mr. Unkrich! Thank you for making one of my favorite films of last year!
Toy Story 3 is my favorite pixar film .
Please get Linklater or Lynch in there!
Please invite Sogo Ishii, Takashi Miike and Shinya Tsukamoto
Great choices
Get Chloe Sevigny in here. Plz
Get JORDAN PEELE THERE. Or Greta, or Guillermo.
Christopher Jones I think they already got Guillermo. Right?
Yes they did
Christopher Jones there is already a guiellermo vid : )
Greta would be awesome
Did GDT already he just took a bunch of stuff and didn't say much
3:15 ok, so they DO own a microphone?
Not a lot of UA-cam video essays about editing for animation btw
Punch drunk love es una increible película.
Muy infravalorada
Ed helms?
thanks , great films, I gotta see seconds
Do they charge you for those carry on's?? Jesus. Coco was awesome by the way.
Damn Lee... you never did buy that Kaleidescape System we talked about???
is that ed helm's father????
When is Wes anderson getting in the closet?
Brilliant episode!
Have to gat Marty in the closet
He would flip out if The Shining got a spine number
wait, he is not mexican? that's rude
His work is magnificent!
Good picks
All That Jazz is picked a lot. I get it.
What happened to Ed Helms?
People who like "Seconds" should check out the Japanese film "The Face of Another". Similar and - in my view - even better.
Unkrich WTF... you gotta see Three Colors... Kieslowski!!!
this guy gives me lesson on how to not forget your love ones even if they die BTW thanks for sharing COCO film so amazing
Me patiently waiting for Ed Helms’s dad to pick Antichrist. Lmao
Why does he look like Andy from the office in that thumbnail? That’s all I think every time I see this video in my feed. Lol
great story about punch drunk and excellent campion rec because sounds like good to watch with your spouse
Bicycle Thieves (Ladri di biciclette) is a great Vittorio De Sica movie
Man get some sleep
i feel like they keep putting Seconds higher and higher to stop people talking about it.
There is a picture of Luca Gudagnino e Jim Jarmusch in your closet guys, where is the video?
hope he gets some sleep soon
An Angel at my Table is a New Zealand movie not Australian.
Look it’s Ed Helms’ dad
Does nobody in Hollywood own a blu-ray player?
PLease bring alberto fuguet
Lee: “I’m in Mecca”
Me: “I knew it”
I found Dekalog through this series and it blew me away
An angel at my table is from New Zealand.
Shocked he didn’t mention the Shining and how it should be in the collection
A man of fine tastes
This guy reminds me of Ed Helms. He should play him in a movie.
Hes the man! Toy story 3 and Coco are the best pixar films
I really do love Punch Drunk Love, but it isn’t a top 5 all timer for me. But, it seems to be in a lot of famous people’s top 5 and top 10 lists. Why is that? Could somebody explain it to me? Could somebody help me love the movie more?
Here are some appreciations

How to Write a Romance

You would have to write an essay. But it's such an odd, offbeat film, taking the unexpected path every scene while still being hopelessly romantic. It's like an introverted, anxious, depressed person's fantasy of love. I also think of it as having a slingshot structure, where the main character is stretched beyond his limits to a near panic attack, then suddenly released (during the magnificent Hawaii montage) into bliss. Adam Sandler transcends anything you could ever imagine coming out of him.
I had a feeling he was gay. Guess I was wrong.
I would love to see the uncut video!!
The great Leon Krich.
Oh, well we can't all be ed helms!
Coco is the shit
I thought it was Ed Helms
