When multiplied by 19 for the entire squadron you’re looking at $550,000 per hour not including support aircraft or other vehicles needed.
The individual flight cost is STILL about 1/3rd less than the F-35’s hourly flight costs which range around $40,000 per.
Is that why the federal government is handing them to the state? They pay the upfront airframe cost but don't have the burden of the maintenance/operating costs?

Ah, so they fly low, but at a slower speed. Makes sense, usually hitting mach 1 requires using the after burner, which is pretty fuel inefficient.

@@tringuyen7519 The 142nd Wing based in Portland is the air defense unit for the entire Pacific Northwest. There are similar units throughout the country. The F-15Cs they have had for the last 30 years are no longer relevant to be deployed overseas, as well as proving difficult to even keep flying due to age. And Russia has and does fly bomber aircraft off the coast of Oregon.

Glad to see new Air Frames for Air Defense. In most cases the F-15 will be the best platform for defending the Air Space. The F-35 is great but the F-15 will be better for Air Sovereignty Alert or running down Cessnas, Pipers and the occasional DH-8.
They also shoot down very high flying balloons, AND spy satellites that are still in outer space.

The National Guard are lucky I certainly didn't expect them to get the first iterations of the new aircraft. The F15-EX is the best aircraft Boeing has built for a while and is extremely fast and capable with all the updates integrated seamlessly.

No. The F-16 has a higher turn rate than the F-15.
Fighters carry bombs, missiles targeting pods and extra fuel. That all adds drag and the more that is put on the more drag there is. The F-15 has the potential to outperform the F-16 with a standard load out.

Stealth is good to attack an enemy's ground or to be able to sneak up on a bogie but our AWACS have been updated too and once a bogie fires they are a target and like the reporter said, the F-15 goes Mach 2.5 with dope maneuverability.. Not so much everyone else! lol

It's Really Great, living near the Portland Airbase at PDX. With any luck, the new jets' higher performance, comes with an increase in sound levels! I love the thunderous sound of the engines during takeoffs. It really makes my day when they practice 'Touch and Go" exercises, with 30 or 40 landing/takeoffs before Noon! You don't know what you're missing!

After 40 touch and goes there, they come down to Eugene and do another 30 there! I used to live under the flight path for Mahlon Sweet field in Eugene. It could get noisy but practice keeps these guys and gals in top form to protect us if the crap hits the fan. 🇺🇸

Portland is a city and does not have a national guard. States have national guard units. Oregon is the state that Portland is located in, hence even though the airfield is located in Portland it is in fact part of the Oregon Air National Guard. Someone who claims to give news to people should be able to get simple facts straight. News agencies should really endeavor to hire competent employees.
How did we become the first to get it?
No idea. My understanding up to just a couple months ago is that Klamath falls national guard base was actually going to get them first, I think we won some form of a lottery though plus the fact that our newest airframe is literally 40 years old. I think it was a really good decision to put them in Portland, with us being the nearest Contiguous US Base to Russia and China

1. Stealth isn't necessary for this aircraft. We already have the F22, B2 and the F35 for those missions.
2. Fighter Aircraft don't fly with armor. It's not a tank.
3. It's the fastest fighter jet in our inventory. It's designed to intercept other aircraft.
