Another way of getting the air out of a zip-loc bag is to insert a plastic straw at one end of the zipper as you close it. close it right up to the straw, then suck the last bit of air out through the straw. Quickly pull out the straw and finish sealing the bag. Works great once you get the hang of it.
Strain those juices into an ice cube tray! They make soup, gravy, or just flavor up veggies. Cook veggies - to 195° - same way, and refrigerate. Place chosen souvided veggies in same pot when cooking meat to reheat. They will be serving temp, and not overcooked. That's where gravy from juice cubes shines!
I have the Joule sous vide, and it’s operated through an app on your phone. It asks you meat thickness, and how you want it cooked, and it automatically sets the time and temperature
So it soaks in hot water. Not boiling as it needs to be 212°F for that but same concept. I can cook my steak to a reasonable tenderness and doneness in less than 20min on my cast iron.
Not related to this post, but I recently did therapy with Cheri and OMG! She cured my anxiety! If you have ever experienced panic attacks or anxiety, try it! Cheri is the most caring, patient, amazing practitioner. I wish I could get my whole family to do this therapy. It is LIFE-CHANGING!! 💚💚💚💚💚
Most the bags are just polyethylene which is a single chemical in his highly inert, doesn't seem to end up in your digestive system. I worry about plastic too, but I worry more about stiff plastics that have BPAs in them not lose plastics like polyethylene. I guess that's also the bad thing because probably everything is incredibly stable in the last hundreds of years.
By the way, I'm actually getting more concerned about Browning causes a set of chemicals called A.G.E.s . I think we brown stuff way too much. Everyone likea a good crust their steak or char on the broccoli. Sous vide is a good way to cook that reduces these chemicals if you are willing to brown less or none (I know, not fun). I have actually switched to a steam oven, which I highly recommend. You can sous vide with no bags and cool at low temps to avoid AGEs. Evidence is emerging that AGEs are not good at all.
Most restaurants use this method. That’s how everyone gets their steak delivered to the table at the same time. Take them out then sear on the grill “for looks” and they are done.
😂I’ve had a Sous Vide gadget for over eight years. Nothing better for steaks, for sure. I do use my Blackstone for the sear. Or a cast iron pan. Sous vide also great for chicken breast for chicken salad, ribs, roasts…You’re actually a bit late to the party, but better late than never. 👳👮♂️
Cannot believe most people you speak to have not heard of sous vide cooking. It has been around since 1971 when it was invented by two French chefs, Bruno Goussalt and George Pralus. It hit the restaurant scene in about 1974. I would never stop grilling and Blackstone griddling though. We use our air fryer, Instant Pot, oven, microwave, stovetop and toaster oven. Plus we have a real brick pizza oven as well as a portable pizza oven that we sometimes bring camping when we will be entertaining friends. Sous vide cooked steak does taste delicious though.
My husband & I are both disabled & in our 70s. It is physically difficult to cook tasty meals like we used to do. But we discovered a meal delivery service called RealEats that deliver tasty meals that are prepared using sous vide method or if in a super hurry they can be microwaved. Seasonings, taste, & quality are amazing. We are weekend or 4-day Campers. It is so easy to pitch our RealEats meals in our 12v Iceco refrigerator and hit the road.
Been doing sous vide for years! Browning afterwards is a must, I usually use a cast iron pan or one of my grills - a torch is great (for show) but not necessary…Cheers!
I was curious, a friends' husband had wanted to try one. I tend to look for the quickest method. As a single senior, a small cast iron grill pan gets me out of the kitchen fast. Grilled veggies and a small steak, burger, chicken tender, pork Chop or even a hot dog, all in the same little pan. The sous vide would be fun to play with, but I know I would never use it on a regular basis. Same with my air fryer and Instant Pot. Both stuffed in a cabinet. Maybe if I still cooked for a family of six.
I’ve been cooking my steaks sous vide for about 3 years now. I will never go back to a grill, perfect medium rare every time. I use a Joule and I love it
Love the Sous Vide method, but using that Blackstone, that you gave away, at the end to reverse sear crust for a couple of minutes at the end is ultimate!
Tom and Cheri, congratulations on being on the cover of the magazine!! I just watched your new episode and when Cheri was going through the list of which way of cooking it wasn't, I said Sous Vide!! I am a Pampered Chef consultant and our new Deluxe Multi Cooker has a Sous Vide setting along with being a Pressure Cooker/Quick Cooker (instant pot), crock pot, yogurt maker, and sterilizer all in 1 unit!! I had not heard of Sous Vide cooking prior to this unit coming out. If anyone is interested, please let me know (can get at 60% off this month by hosting an online party!!).
My son kept the gas grill. He likes how meat finishes on the grill. But he's in a house. He does a lamb with pomegranate marinade. Yum. Sous vide is awesome.
Great video. We are not FULL TIME campers, so what we do is smoke steaks burgers pork and chicken, than vacuum seal the bags. Than when we camp, we just simply boil a bag. For full time camping, love your method
I can see it , since the black stone is just a griddle. I like the sous vide for tough cuts of meat, but it doesn’t come close to a charcoal grilled steak. Glad you are enjoying it.
We’ve been doing this for years in the RV and it is one of the best ways to cook just about any protein. But you still need a way to finish it and a Blackstone, grill, or cast iron pan are all great solutions. Propane or butane torch can also be used but I prefer the other solutions. Personally, I like to finish sous vide proteins off on the Blackstone.
Sous vide is an incredible method for cooking proteins. I don't cook steak any other way. Personally, I wouldn't use those ingredients for a marinade, especially liquid smoke. I put a sprig of rosemary and some smashed garlic cloves in with the steak after seasoning with salt and pepper. For those who haven't used an immersion circulator, you're missing out. Always finish with a sear on a super hot grill or pan.
Hi- can you use the sous vide while rolling? I drive a semi and this would be awesome if it could operate rolling without water leaking out. Thanks for your response in advance.
😁We have the same one! I love it...try taking a chuck roast at 130 for 44 hours. It's amazing! I place mine in a pan for 1-2 minutes per side. Not sure I can do a torch. 😐Enjoy.
Excellent video - Sous-Vide is a "natural" for RVers! - It's small, lightweight, and very portable - healthy too! I've been doing it for several years now in my sticks-n-bricks, and always pack it into my RV. With the proper instructions, it's impossible to screw up a cook. - lol - Cheers!
Not doing it not gonna get rid of my grills. Just got a Blackstone and I like cooking my steaks with Pappys on a barbecue. That’s the way it’s gonna be
Thanks for this video! Congratulations on the magazine!! I've been hiding my sous vide in the cupboard for a few years now (forgot about it actually). I got it out this morning to sous vide four frozen pork chops. The timer is set for 1 hr 30 min. I'll put in fridge after cooking and will sear for supper after I run errands. I have a Joule and it does make everything tender and taste amazing. I'll sous vide my Thanksgiving turkey breast as well!
I have been cooking my steaks this way for the last two years. My husband started this. When I buy my steaks I spice them up right away, then I vacuum pack them so when I am ready I just pull out of the freezer and they are ready to go!
My Blackstone grill was a real disappointment. I sous vide by using a crock pot, and I buy bags specifically designed to take the heat. Then finish with a super hot grill or cast iron pan. Check internal temp before serving though It’s awesome!
What would Corey at #FOS think of this? Doesn’t do it for me folks! Where is your 5’er? I really enjoy your tour videos of new rigs and other rv’ers mods. Keep them coming!
I do love change & trying out new gadgets, like my new Ninja Foodie air frier. Absolutely love it! However I have been to a friends dinner party & they had 2 Sous Vide's & the dinner was divine (roast beast was so tender). I was intrigued with this French invention but I still preferred the conventional ways of cooking food. To be fair I don't want to wait 2 to 4 hrs to cook a steak. I would not want to give up my grill. It makes meat & meals marvellous! I'm sure many viewers will be surprised to see Sous Vide in action. It does cook meat perfectly & tasty too.
I would still have to search the outside to get some of the maillard reaction flavors to come out (browning and searing generates this) so I would still have a grill. Not a fan of non seared meats.
"SOUS VIDE" has been around for years in restaurants. It takes some meal planning but when done right (low temp, long time) can be a great fit when boondocking. You can prep all your meals ahead (with sauces & spices) freeze them and pull as needed. Works great for veggies as well. As for the steaks, I prefer to sear them in a cast iron pan on the campfire for 1 min a side.
I’m so glad you did this video! We immediately bought the one you recommended and have cooked 2 meals with it. It’s fantastic! We’re hooked. We hated the Blackstone, didn’t like messing with charcoal, gas grills, huge ínstapots, or any indoor cooking method that would smell up the camper. Not to mention cleanup! We always ended up eating out or getting take out-no more-the sous vide is terrific! We never would have thought of it if we hadn’t seen your video. (PS- you also sold us on Lectric bikes, another GREAT recommendation.)😊
Boiled steak on plastic? No thanks. Waiting 1 or 2 or 4 hours? No thanks. Container, water, sous vide, torche... How's it more convenient? I love you guys but i don't agree on this one. Glad it works for you.
Love your videos! Only problem with this one is there is no way your "SOUS VIDE" only used 3-4 watts, maybe when recirculating water but not heating or maintaining it. I think the one you linked is rated at around 1,000 watts.
Sous Vide is alright, but no it is not a replacement for a good griddle or grill. I would never get rid of our blackstone in replacement for one of them. As for the propane comments, there are many ways to connect one to a griddle or a grill, you just have to decide if you want its own tank or connect it to the existing RV propane system safely.
Sorry, but this will not be replacing my Camp chef griddle. I can do so much more on a griddle. Hot sandwiches, pancakes, french toast, baccon, breakfast scramble, hash browns, stir fry, fried rice, grilled onions, tacos... and do it all much faster.
I am not in denial, I cook just for myself, (boil water or warm cans of food) with very little effort only to keep from starving. For me, a grill isn’t worth the footprint space, maintenance, nor required attention while cooking. I can recognize the ease (little if any food prep and next to zero cleanup) that this technique can contribute to my zero effort cooking requirements. The small footprint, including the container that would pull double duty when not ‘cooking’, is impressive. And without the aroma of cooking entrees, an hours long period of time cooking would not be a hindrance. I’d give it a try to add more fresh foods into my regular diet if it really works as easy as it seems in this video. I’d appreciate a couple more videos, including doing some side dishes and an entree, while giving more information on actual wattage necessary to bring the water to temperature along with maintaining temperature wattage requirements while ‘cooking’.
You need to pat the meat dry before searing. Also, MUCH better seared on a HOT HOT grill. Chicken breasts are crazy delicious! Another must-try is carrots and green beans! You won't believe the flavor and texture! I also use my sous vide to low-temp pasteurize my fresh goat milk.
OMG Inkbird makes the sprinkler system that irrigates my yard! That device highly resembles my BrewJacket Immersion Pro Fermentation Control System (Carboy/Bucket Jacket) that allows me to control temperatures +/- 0.5° F of my set temperature. Looks like a par boil system like what's used in the pasta industry. Your singing with the torch reminds me of carbonara style steaks. Just wish I could eat medium rare, but my oncologist said well done *only* :-/ I would think that you'd want to cook at 145° F. in order to Pasteurize the meat properly. At any rate, safe and hoppy travels from The Boondocking Brewer™!
Sous Vide has its place, and steaks are one of them. But you still need the grill to get the nice crust. The blow torch just doesn't give the same results. I made friend chicken in our sous vide. Solved the problem of the thighs taking longer to cook than the breast. Once they were cooked in the Sous Vide, lightly coated them and pan fried in cast iron just enough to get the crust. You probably should have kept the griddle too. I remember when the food processor first came out. Everyone tried to use it for everything--absolutely destroying mushrooms. there is cooking vessel panacea--everything has its place. Hash browns aren't the same in a sous vide.--Ex chef...
Tom,and CHEERE, HELLO, I have been using SOUV VEE, for many years, But some things I still so in a CASR IRON PAN, , I also use an INSTANT POT for years, as so a different air fryer, just use a remote immersion thermometer to keep track on internal temp , SO tell me, you went from your GRAND DESIGH MOMENTIOM, TO A CLASS C, What the hell am I missing ?, thus is lower than your 5th wheel,, easier to flood !, Until next time. Stay well,,,,🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Congratulations on being on the cover guys!!! So awesome!!! On another note... who is this gal and what have you done with Cheri!!! 🤪 Looks like you're mixing things up a bit! 😁 Congrats again guys & hope to see you both soon!!!
Interesting. I’ve been using a suitcase size Colman grill runs of propane, big enough for two steaks. It’s alright but what you demonstrated perked my interest.
We also have a mini-gas grill that stores under our bed and a 17 inch Blackstone. They take up very little space. Sous vide cooking is delicious though. We also use an electric fry pan usually for breakfast. Easy peasy. Rarely use our gas burners. I hate the smell of the propane gas in such a small space. Have to keep the window cracked and fan on and it releases moisture into the air of the RV. Just our preference. I even make a quick chili in our electric fry pan.
I'm not a fan of Blackstone, always thought that was a fad, though I do cast iron cooking all the time without the Blackstone clean up chores. But this water boil is a ridiculous fad!! 🤣
Ok, I would give it a try.. I’m a fan of different ways to cook things.. Unfortunately, I’m a grill guy.!! I’m gonna hang on to my blackstone… lol The torch though is a cool manly touch… 🔥😎 NICE‼️ Thanks for sharing guys… Steaks looked GREAT! Safe Travels wherever the road leads… ✌️🫶🙏🇺🇸
That's the only way I cook steak. I only cook 2.5 hrs perfect every time even cheap cuts are delicious. Also pork and chicken YUM! For the heating water I add boiling water to get to temp 135°
I have used this for years. Not sure where y’all have been??? You will also need your Blackstone. It also will make your chicken fantastic. Sorry y’all are so for behind times.
Looks long time *Cookery but, hey, just like a crock pot -- tender, delish & moist😋. P.S. did I miss something?! Your in a "Compass" for time being (trial & see) .... Ok, travels onward 🚐

Do you realize that the thirteen dollars you spent on that small chunk of MURDERED cow, could feed a small family in India for an entire month?

No thanks! The idea of cooking plastic scares me and 4 hours seems like to long to wait.

Interesting. The only difference for me is… I like the ritual the process that comes with grilling. To each his own love your channel.
You should try a pellet grill, much better flavor! And the blackstone has so many other uses! I hope it found a good home!

Exactly…you still need to sear the surface for the maillard effect.
I think you could. Just don't fill the water container all the way up and/or use a cover. amzn.to/3heyIaD
Never heard of this. Wow! That is pretty cool!
That no secret that's how they make prime rib in restaurants but congrats you did a wonderful job.
I love my Anova and always sous vide my steaks. Perfect steaks every time.
I do my ribeyes at 135F for 2.5 hours then sear on a 500F grill
My instapot has a this option. I've tried it and like the way it cooked. It was nice and easy to clean. Didn't think about reusing the sack.
Not doing it not gonna get rid of my grills. Just got a Blackstone and I like cooking my steaks with Pappys on a barbecue. That’s the way it’s gonna be
Too much heat on that plastic to be seeping chemicals into my meat.
Totally agree
Also, a vac sealer is ideal vs zip locks... Zips work ok though if you don't have one but they are handy
Just a quick thought when it comes to releasing the air from the baggie. Get a Food Saver, Stay well, stay safe.
You should use Food Saver bags or Stasher bags that are BPA free.
I have been using the souVid for years. Love it. Cooks halibut in garlic butter. Cooks really fast. Tastes great.
My Blackstone grill was a real disappointment. I sous vide by using a crock pot, and I buy bags specifically designed to take the heat. Then finish with a super hot grill or cast iron pan. Check internal temp before serving though It’s awesome!
Thanks for sharing
What would Corey at #FOS think of this? Doesn’t do it for me folks! Where is your 5’er? I really enjoy your tour videos of new rigs and other rv’ers mods. Keep them coming!
I've been wondering when other RV'ers would discover the sous vide! You can get insulating jackets for the plastic tub on Amazon.
When did you guys get a C class RV? What happened to your 5th wheel?
Not gonna buy that but we tossed our black stone as well. It’s basically a big frying pan. It’s not a grill and I like bbq meat not fried meat
SousVides are great but you still need something that will sear your protein.
Keep the grill.
Blackstones are much more versatile. For those who cook for their family and/or friends it is fun and you can cook all kinds of great food on it
I do love change & trying out new gadgets, like my new Ninja Foodie air frier.
Great method for RV travelers, been cooking sous vide for a long time. PRO TIP: start with hot water to shorten the time up to temp.
I am a horrible cook. But a sous vide machine has helped me cook proteins perfectly. I haven't used it in the RV yet. Maybe next trip.
Interesting fact, many restaurants cook steaks with the souvie (sp?). My son uses one at home then sears it on his bbq just before serving.
I dont know any restaurant that sous vide steaks?
Works great for doing ribs. I do like finishing or a grill though. I've never tried the blow tourch method.
A lot of cooking shows in the uk use this system
Boiled steak on plastic? No thanks. Waiting 1 or 2 or 4 hours? No thanks. Container, water, sous vide, torche... How's it more convenient? I love you guys but i don't agree on this one. Glad it works for you.
I’ll keep my grill and smoker.
Love your videos! Only problem with this one is there is no way your "SOUS VIDE" only used 3-4 watts, maybe when recirculating water but not heating or maintaining it. I think the one you linked is rated at around 1,000 watts.
New subscribers. Thanks for the video. This is a great cooking alternative😊.
We use it all the time! Steaks, salmon, pork chops are out favorites
Boiled stake, minus water touching it? I guess no different than if it was in an oven covered with foil. I am going to try that item.
The steak didn't look appetizing when it came out of the bag. I would have to grill it a little bit for sure. I'd try it though. Thank you.
I love my sous vide, but also enjoy my Treager Ranger. Makes low carb easy. Egg bites, steaks, keto cheesecake in jars.
Sorry, but this will not be replacing my Camp chef griddle. I can do so much more on a griddle. Hot sandwiches, pancakes, french toast, baccon, breakfast scramble, hash browns, stir fry, fried rice, grilled onions, tacos... and do it all much faster.
And you use the very best salad dressing. Love me some Briannas. Safe travels.
Looks neat. I’ll have to think it over.
We've cooked individual omelets in zip locks while boy scout camping in a pot of boiling water over the fire! ..so this looks interesting...
Get a Stove top or electric smoker. The best
Nice guys i do mashed potato’s in mine, also try oranges and chicken my god
Still prefer the grill. Must as well call it a boiled steak. My steak cooks through all the way. Medium rear!
I’m gonna hang on to my blackstone… lol
The torch though is a cool manly touch… 🔥😎 NICE‼️
Thanks for sharing guys…
Steaks looked GREAT!
Safe Travels wherever the road leads…
✌️🫶🙏🇺🇸
Thermal cooker👍
Guga from gugafoods and sousvideeverything got me to check out sous vide and I've been hooked ever since. Welcome to the dark side!
Same here. Guga got me hooked
I like my sous vide but not as much as my Blackstone...most versatile cooker by far.
No thank you. Nothing beats our Blackstone! flavor flavor flavor
Interesting way to cook. Have to do a little research then get it by my wife. LOL Thanks
I bought one earlier and gave it away. First of all it takes too much time and secondly, you’re cooking in plastic which I’m not comfortable with.
can I have your old blackstone.?
Sorry, but I have given away an expensive sous vide. I don’t enjoy the gray outside and missed the caramelization.
HI FOLK'S I'M A FAN OF YOUR'S THIS LOOK'S AWESOME THANK YOU TAKE CARE PEACE ✌️
I'll stick with my smoker and a good sear on the blackstone.
Eggs and Seafood are great sousvide.
I do sous vide steaks in my Instant Pot Ultra.
I cooked an 18 hour roast beef. The most tender roast I every had.
I would have taken the black stone off your hands, but you needed that to brown the meats afterwards
Sorry that doesn't work for me.
You said ”to get the rest of the water out”. You meant air, right? There’s no water in the bag, is there?
I heard that too. She meant to say “get the air out”.
Please don't use those bags. Splurge and get food saver bags.
Looks long time *Cookery but, hey, just like a crock pot -- tender, delish & moist😋. P.S. did I miss something?! Your in a "Compass" for time being (trial & see) .... Ok, travels onward 🚐
Okay this felt way too much like a commercial. Was that given to you guys in exchange for the video? Boiling steaks is not my idea of camp cooking
LOL! No, we bought it on Amazon!
