NINGEN ISU (which translates to "The Human Chair") is a Japanese three-piece hard rock band. In 1987, the band was formed by Shinji Wajima (Guitar & Vocals) and Kenichi Suzuki (Bass & Vocals), who were classmates in the same high school in Aomori Prefecture in the northern area of Japan.
In 1989, they made their first appearance on the popular audition TV show “Heisei Meibutsu TV Ikasu Band Tengoku”. They attracted everybody’s attention for their weird hard rock music and Suzuki’s attire of a popular manga character, “Nezumi Otoko (Rat-man)” from the famous manga “GeGeGe no Kitaro.”
After some replacement of the drummers, Nobu Nakajima（Drum & Vocals） joined the band in 2004 and then NINGEN ISU has kept going with the current 3 members.
Throughout their career since their debut, they have stuck to their one and only expression/view of the world featuring a mixture of their lyrics based on Japanese classical literature, their musical style influenced and inspired by classic hard rock and progressive rock, and folk culture of their place of birth, Aomori. Without abandoning their belief in themselves, they have continued to constantly release their unique original albums.

Actually there is a story here...The song is a prayer for success. This video went viral and made their first oversea tour. They did 2 gigs in Germany and one in London UK, was heading for the States but then Covid came along, so they must head home to Japan. By the way. Guitarist and Bassplayer is born 1965 and the drummer is a couple years younger. Ningen Isu is sort of Japans Black Sabbath.. if You go to Spotify You have hours and hours of insane good music from Ningen Isu. Perfect to paint the house or doing stuff like that
The lead singer is supposed to be dressed as a 17th century scholar. Uncle Fester is a monk. The drummer is a 1980s yakuza (Gangster).
They're in their late 50s. They've been around since the late 80s.
They are grandfathers of Japanese metal and rock music now there are a lot of bands world class in this country for example Band Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila, Baby Metal, Unlucky Morpheus, Hannabie, Aldious, Galneryus, Maximum the Hormone, Dir En Grey, Crystal Lake, Lonesome Blue etc.

Ningen Isu (The Human Chair) has been around since 1987. If you dig into their history you can find video of them in 1980's. They were just as wild in those days. The bass player seems to always dress as a Buddhist monk and he likes make faces as he plays. Their drummer dresses as an "Old School" Yakuza, while the lead guitar is in the costume of a 19th century literary master. They do metal, they do prog, and they do King Crimson covers, too! You will not believe how many records this band has produced.
Like so many Japanese metal bands, Ningen Isu mixes Japanese culture with Western rock and comes up with music that is refreshing and unique.
They are known to be the Black Sabbath of Japan.
