Thank's for the previous reply. I didn't directly watch the lamp, only the light on the walls and ceiling but even that gave me eyestrain. I tested the UV with glowing things and a detector card from eBay and it appears that it doesn't put nearly as much UV as a metal halide for example. Now to your 70W HPS lamp indoors I guess it's fine even without eye protection then ? Also what about low pressure sodium lamps ? I'd like to get one as well as I prefer the color of the light they produce over HPS but can they cause eyestrain or permanent damage as well or not compared to HPS ? (Only to reasonably illuminate a room, not to directly look at).
Hello, I just got a pair of 400W HPS bulbs, however trying them indoors made my eyes hurt despite having had sunglasses and the lamp shielded from direct view, however do you know if can cause permanent damage or not ? (Never got issues with public lighting on the other hand but that might be beacuse of how tall light poles are I guess).
Hello! 400W is a little bit too much for a HID lamp to be used indoors. I usually use 125W mercury vapour and 70W HPS lamps indoor. If you watch directly to the lamp when it is at full brighteness, it can cause permanent damage to your eyes.

I have no idea how LPS light feels in real life, I didn't saw one before and I don't know anything about them.
