Philips PVB-HGS 101 Malaga with 125W mercury vapour lamp
Переглядів 59514 днів тому
This Malaga is a romanian-built lamp at Timisoara by a former company named Elba & Philips. It wasn't used altough it was made back in 2001. Elba & Philips company also modernised some old romanian street lamps like Elba PVB 12B (turned into 12BM) and Elba PVB 9C (turned into 9CM).

This contraption I got from a local fair for cheap. I have no ideea what company is that because on the box we're written contradictory informations. For example, on the top of the box it says that it's a normal mercury lamp but on the side it says that it's a self-ballasted one. Also the burner inside the lamp was not straight as you can see. Nevertheless, I'm not planning to use this lamp again.

I got this lamp from an abandoned Elba PVT street lamp. This lamp was produced in April 2003 but was in use until 2006 when new street lamps and poles were installed. The old lamp remained abandoned on the pole for 18 years until it was taken down a month ago.

Hot restrikes usually happens when there is a temporary power cut. In this video I want to show you how much time a street would be in the dark based on the lamp type that is used to illuminate it.

I saved this lamp from scrap in Iasi. It's not in a good shape but I'll do my best to restore it. The original lamp was broken but the company that owns street light gave me a brand new Osram to replace the broken lamp.

I have an Osram vialox nav-e HPS which has a built in ignitor and I run it with an external starter, could this damage the bulb?
@@johnjunior5421 as far as I know, yes
Then how come the bulb didn't burn out when I worked on it like that? but what i noticed is that the second time i put the bulb in it seemed to turn off the lamp ignitor automatically, i.e. it didn't do that red flash on the lamp ignitor at first, how is that explained?
I want it, what brand is it?

I have philips master Son-t apia plus Hg Free 70w = 6300Lumen, 2100K, 38000 lifetime it's very good and cool hps bulb, but without mercury it has a very peculiar yellow color.
good lamp
Where to buy if want that 70 watt
You can find it on-line easily. Just search for Philips Master SON-T 70w lamp and I'm sure you can find it.

Im gonna try this on my home this is so Childhood and Beautiful
I have seen some forgotten LPS but they had a weird monochrome light!!! I wish I had LPS, what a shame they disappeared even in my country they don't change them here because they don't care what makes sense since they work, only in the main streets they changed them to LED how boring😥
Very good lamp!! in Greece it was quite popular with HPS and the lamp is popular, in my neighborhood there is a church and it has three more MV and one is osram hql mbf-u 250W, I also have this lamp in my collection 125W, very good and typical lamp MV
I love this old light this is my childhood on 2010❤❤
Mine, too, that's why I begun collecting them.
I saw this light in 2011 outside on the street when i was 1 year old and Im also Care about those light and u know i ordered it yesterday so i Can make video out of this lamp keep up man!😁😁😁👍👍👍
Thanks, great to hear that you started just like me
@@hpsnerd-ow6rcYup and you know i only love old street lights but New street lights sucks!
This is so Childhood in 2010 this lamp i love How this start lighting warm❤❤❤
Those wires look tiny
I was using them only for the short test period, but now I replaced them.
Toute la voix
What are your favorite light sources? I love HPS, fluorescent, LPS and mercury lamps and not LED only for their economy, but there are still many HPS lamps here in Greece, I have seen some LPS but very few, and several forgotten mercury lamps

isn't it bad to touch these lamps without gloves? because I read that you shouldn't...
@@johnjunior5421 It's bad when they are hot. They can burn your skin. You should let it cool for 5 minutes,in the socket
@@johnjunior5421 also it's bad to touch the glass with greasy hands. But with clean hands it's ok, they are not like halogen lamps.
I also want to ask you, are the HPS bulbs dangerous, is there a chance that the outer glass will break as well? I've seen so many videos of HPS where only the inner glass breaks, but is there any chance of this happening?
Yes, if the glass is already cracked, it can break due to the heat expansion. This can happening with all HID lamps. I have a mercury vapour lamp that was cracked durting the shipping and almost exploded after the second use.
Be careful with these experiments! the problem is not the mercury since it is in a small amount of about 12mg but the glass because they can injure you if it is new the lamp should I not worry?
Make a video with the sylvania shp-t basic plus 70w i have it and it's a very good lamp the philips mst son-t apia plus xtra will be interested
in general, HPS is much more preferred than LPS, because of monochromatic light, HPS and LED are the best
Yeah...so sad to see that even the HPS lamps are dissapearing nowadays...
neither can I believe that for so many years the roads were with sodium lamps, now they are these stupid LEDs with the tiring white light that disturbs the night, while the yellow was comfortable!
What a strange brand this lamp is, now I learned from you another brand I didn't know, you have saved precious and rare lamps from the past where they no longer exist!
As far as I know is a chinese lamp from wich the romanian company bought the license.
Nice
Very good vídeo I like so much this kind of lamps, LED won't never have this magic! haha here from Brazil nice videos bro ❤
Do you have a Hg Free PIA lamp? I've heard they have a more lemon colored light and a bit different arc tube
I don't have one but I'm planning to get one because I'm also curious about the light colour

from what is seen the high pressure sodium can open faster in relation to the mercury and metal halide lamps, in general it seems that the high pressure sodium wins in everything except the LED and except the color!
Yes, as I expected, it had the fastest restrike. Unfortunately, HPS can't beat LED in only one characteristic and that's power consumption...
You have saved a piece of history of the Romanian-made street lamps. btw I love the sound of the ballast
Yes I also liked it very nostalgic 😢
It was so loud because wasn't screwed to the fixture because of the old Romlux ballast that you can see behind.
What HPS lamp is it, Philips;
No, it's a Tesla SHC 250W from 1990. I was to lazy to take a SON-T lamp that was at the bottom of my lamp box :))
I think you have seen a Tesla 250w, is this is? It's such an old lamp, I wonder how you keep it and it hasn't burned out because HPS lamps usually live for 10-15 years rarely 20 years or more, only the mercury lamps are the ones that lasted many years but then they're useless! I've seen old mercury lamps that have a greenish color and very little light! It looks like you have antique type lamps :) I love them especially the HPS
Yes, is the same lamp from my early video. The only explication for the long life of the lamp is that it came from a new old stock. I remember that I got this lamp from a early 2000's street light that didn't existed in 1990 (Luxten Mira). And as far as I know, that lamp model came with Luxten LVST 250W hps lamps, not Tesla, so I think that the Tesla lamp was installed recently and wasn't in use for long.
Was Elba a state run company in Romania, just like Polam-Gostynin, Elgo, Polam-Farel in Poland?
Yes, every company was state-own util the fallen of the communism in December 1989. Now as far as I know it's a private company that is still making light fixtures. They provided the LED lamps in my hometown that were installed in the last year.
@hpsnerd-ow6rc Elgo had a really similar history. It was founded in the 50s i believe, then it was Polam-Gostynin until 1989, then it was Elgo owned by the state. In about 2006 it got bought out by a company named Brilium, they started doing shady businesses, tax evasion and the company went out of business in 2016. They used to make amazing fixtures like Elgo Strada, Elgo Acron, Elgo Leda
I have the 400W version and using it absolutely requires proper eye protection. Not only from the UV but also from the visible purple light as well. What about the 125W one ? Did you wear eye protection ?
I didn't wear eye protection, I just did not look at it. But I used it only for the video, I never used it after.
@@hpsnerd-ow6rc Yeah, I see. Thank's for the reply. Maybe my eyes are sensitive or it is because of its power, anyways I can't be in the same room as my 400 watt bulb without tinted eyewear as the purple light alone hurts even if the UV is filtered out. And I also get the itchy feeling on the skin if I stay close to it for too long. It's the long wave UV that is breaking down the skin and accelerating its aging as well as increasing the chance of a melanoma happening later on. No sunburn though.
@@psirvent8 I got the same itchy feeling of the skin when I put my finger close to it. That's why I decided to keep it only for the collection and never use it again.
@@hpsnerd-ow6rc You can use it if you're far enough from it and protect your skin by wearing long sleeves and gloves. It's no worse than being outside on a sunny day.
used but still in a good shape. EOL or nearby Eol will flicker like mad in a warming up mode. also EOL will change colour more than twice. and will warm up twice faster than healthy one.

I wish but I don't have any LPS lamps or ballasts. And here are very expensive.
I know that one costs 50 euros, unfortunately I don't have LPS either it's cool but I only have HPS Philips Son, son-t and Sylvania shp-t basic plus 70w and a mercury Poland. This is the epic lamp! Lol
Yes, I love it !
Does it get hot like those incandescent ones? My 75 watt Philips incandescent is already over 500 degrees Fahrenheit in just a few seconds.
Yes, it as hot as a normal MV lamp. Also if I hold my hand at about 3 meters from it, I'll get an itchy feeling from the UV radiation. It puts out a lot of UV.
