David, decades ago I bought your encyclopaedia on modifying BL's ''A' series engine, and with load of careful thought and planning, I spent a small fortune modfying my 1275cc Allegro estate. it went like shit off a shovel yet was still capable of 50mpg on a long run, because maximising efficiency was my key objective. One of my favourite memories was out-accelerating a 2-litre Ford Capri that was trying to overtake me, with his look of confused frustration on his face in my side mirror.

I truly wish you had a plus plus like button I would wear it out. You took me back to an age when my mother raced a Sunbeam Alpine. 😮. Much to the chagrine of her mother. She eventually got faster than the car and had purchased a lotus 13 just before my father passed.

David it's been a while since you were in the UK. I`m KENT england based. I read all your books I tuned my 4 cylinder Xflows. From your books, all the suspension mods ETC Then Dropped an essex V6 into a MK2 Cortina used a V4 Corsair flywheel some silly triumph center plate to mate the fly wheel and cover plate to the corsair 3 rail box. Beat the hell out of that fancy new 2.8i Capri back in the late 80's. BUT my best laugh was a 1,000 cc mini beating the hell out of the same around the chicanes and roundabouts. Bashing the hell out of fords fast capri. Driver skills left foot braking and just not tail wagging. Your a legend along with Geoffe Howe .

I cannot believe I am just discovering you now, most people keep their tuning secrets...well, secret.
Your knowledge needs to be passed down.
( I have been into every aspect of tuning ( motorcycles) since I first rode in the late seventies, straight away I wanted to go faster, without having to pay out ( money I didn't have being a kid). This set me on the path of improving what I already had, even if this meant stripping as much weight off as possible. And on it went.........
Thanks for all your work and I hope you live a long, happy and healthy life 👍

Nice seat covers on that mini!
Any intro that's very interesting as well. I woke up they had a couple of times that's how I call it. Clinically dead. Some of my point. A doctor who said you must be a believer. I told him no. He was astounded. He was obviously a believer. I simply said nothing wrong with being a believer but when you seen it you don't have to believe you know it exists and it's true. I don't know about the light at the end of tunnel but I do know about the light being all around me. Very calm and most peace I've ever felt. What made me think about it and why I came back. I couldn't do that to my mom. Die that is. There's a lot more to that story of mine but it's not my channel and I basically want to thank you for sharing.

Me Vizard, Finally the correct term for torque.”ft pounds” not pound ft as the T-shirt tech crowd states in their videos. Also finally observed a fellow using speed handle for engine assembly not a open end wrench or a ratchet and socket combo.Very much enjoy you presentations..Thank you for the good information.

Hello Mr Visard, nice to see you again, you sir are a living legend 🙌 I have followed you all my life, I remember a statement you made years ago "torque is what accelerates a car, and horse power is what we talk about" I never forgot that, I have read pages of your brilliant books, thank you for all the inspiration you have given. Keep doing what you do.

    Mr. Vizard,
Having recently discovered your UA-cam channel, I am truly blown away by the amount of knowledge and data that you are willing to give to others for free. In a world where experience like yours is almost always well-guarded, individuals such as yourself truly make a difference to me. I am an 18-year-old student in the process of earning a degree in mechanical engineering, and I have always had a passion for automobiles, internal combustion engines, and learning about new things. Please know that your willingness to share information that you have collected over your lifetime is truly appreciated, as it is allowing me to increase my understanding of the finer details of internal combustion.
As for your cylinder head book competition, I believe that your bet that no one will beat your Silverstone record is very safe. Passing all other competitors during a race is no easy feat to accomplish in and of itself, but passing almost the entire 31 car field on the first lap before even entering the first corner is, in my opinion, likely to never happen again at a Silverstone race (or a race happening anywhere else, for that matter). The main reason why I believe this to be the case is as follows: considering how information regarding car performance is so much more accessible these days than it was back then, I doubt that another individual with a "knowledge delta" (relative to the other competitors) as great as yours seemed to be at that time exists today. Thus, It is very unlikely that someone will create a car that has the advantage required to pass 30 cars before entering the first corner of a race in the modern era, even in “unlimited” class racing. On top of that, the odds of your record being beaten are decreased drastically by the fact that you yourself were then passed by the entire field, all still on the first lap of the race.
    An additional note:
I believe that you are implying that your record is simply the fact that you passed almost everyone and were subsequently passed by them before the first lap of the race was over, so I suppose that including the fact that your spin/off caused every single car behind you at that point to go off track as well in the consideration of the unlikeliness that such a thing will ever happen again is not what you intended. Even so, that aspect of the race is likely another Silverstone record of yours that will never be beaten.

Was really glad to hear this story David and am sorry i can't add more than one 'like' to this and no I haven't seen any of your previous channel videos but I am loving every single thing in every video you do, my favourite videos you do is on lightening rotating parts cause it free acceleration with out having more power. I drive rally cars and dirt bikes and lightening something helps, acceleration, braking and turning, horsepower doesn't do that 😅 good to hear your life experiences again and hope you keep it up as long as you can, thanks for all the knowledge cause it keeps my mind off suicide 😀

A good story David - remember that car from the 'How to modify your mini book' I bought as a teenager and followed your a series development work in the subsequent 'Tuning BL's A Series' books.
Some very clever people from around your generation that culminated in some great companies such as the genius Keith Duckworth and Mike Costin of Cosworth and Colin Chapman of Lotus.
Noticed you mention the late great Jim Clark in your video and I was very lucky in the course of my work, (repairing Minis), to meet one of Jim Clark's race mechanic's Gerry Southby.
Did 2 or 3 jobs to his mini before he gave up driving due to bad eyesight and each time he would tell me some stories about his time with Jim and Lotus.
Sadly found out he succumbed to cancer a while back.
Keep up the good work we appreciate you sharing your great knoledge.

While watching another of your videos I saw the message about the lackluster viewership of this offering. I, of course, had to check it out....and I'm glad I did. I especially am interested in getting weigh out of a car. I would like to appeal to you share your engineering expertise with us mere mortals on the topic. I would love some guidance on "swiss cheesing" various components that would help me to take the unnecessary weight out while retaining needed rigidity and strength. I believe a video, or series of videos, on this topic would be very well received. I have looked for insight on this and have come up empty. Thanks again for your great content!!!

Great stories with lots of good information to help explain how things work for success. I am learning that tons of brain power and determination and skill add up to great equipment, engines, set ups and strategies. Your Mini with its power to weight ratio and, its high torque made it like a slingshot coming through and pulling out of those curves... that is where I learned my best place to gain ground as an amateur (very amateur) oval track snowmobile racer... I had almost no money, but my brother knew the mechanics and he explained to me how I needed to drive to take advantage of the little mechanical advantages the equipment had. I can only imagine how exciting it could be at the high levels all of you have raced and experienced. From your other Rule #1, part #2 port video, you asked to watch and rate this video. I think it may not have as much popularity since maybe old people like me who grew up in the American muscle car era were used to bid block street monsters that did not go around corners well, but drag raced well in straight lines...and watching V8s in Nascar and NHRA, etc... maybe I just didn't get much exposure to smaller track racing and road course racing...now that I am older, I like and appreciate all of it for its passion and effort. Signed Mark Porlier (nickname from snowmobile racing as Dr.Go! ...but never famous...just having local fun. Thank you for all of your videos...I am hooked! p.s. I have wrecked 2 cars, a motorcycle and wrecked many many times on snowmobiles....lucky to be alive as one required life saving surgery the next day and several others resulted in broken bones. I am thankful and very lucky in my past.

I have some personal technology I'd like to share with you and get your thoughts upon it. I know you have some tricks in the bag that you will never pull out and show people that's right. Sam the wisdom God has given you is not to be seen by. Others. At least not anytime soon. I wish it was a phone number or an email I could reach you personally because there's things I want to say that I don't want others to see. Anyways I got several of your books. Thank you keep up the great work brother God bless.

That record will likely stand due to that few are capable of passing that many in such short order and if the racer can pass that many, then it is equally unlikely that they would mess up so bad to let everyone pass him back. Great story, keep them coming :)

It's my opinion that you would wager 5 million dollars that your record of passing and/or being passed by more than 61 cars within such a short distance will stand for 20 years... for the following reasons:
    1) It's highly unlikely that in this day and age someone will unveil a car with such an incredible advantage that would allow them to pass 30 cars in this distance.
    2) Virtually any car with a significant advantage will normally have qualified in the top few positions and therefore have fewer cars to pass before having to lap the slower cars, and this obviously would require more time/longer distance to accomplish.
    3) To beat your record, a driver would have to start in the 31st position, or worse... and lastly
    4) Virtually no competitive driver (along with associated financial sponsors) would want a spin out, or crash on the first lap only to have the whole field pass them.
Note that I corrected your record to be 61 cars. You passed 30 cars & got passed by 31 cars - you did say that after spinning out that you restarted in last place which would include being passed by the car that initially started in last place.
I'm really enjoying your videos. Thanks so much for sharing your vast wealth of knowledge! It's really incredible the amount of research, development and testing you have done through your lifetime. I really appreciate your willingness to educate us with the finer points you have learned. Watching your videos is like going to horsepower university.
