- How did the Normans actually control England, given that most of its population wanted them gone? In 1066 William the Conqueror successfully invaded England, won the Battle of Hastings, and was crowned king, but he had to spend the next several years working to ensure that he kept the kingdom he had won at Hastings. From ensuring a loyal, Norman, aristocracy, to building many of England's most famous castles, to waging war against his Anglo-Saxon people to force their loyalty, William the Conqueror used every trick in the book to remain in power, and ensured that his dynasty would continue to rule England into the centuries to come.

I'd like to note that William the Conquerer didn't only bring Normans with him. He also brought a lot of Flemish with him. Around 1/3 of William's army was Flemish, which itself was because of his marriage with Matilda of Flanders, and many Flemish merchants and nobles migrated to England following the events of 1066.
Very true! His father-in-law, the Duke of Flanders, was also instrumental in securing William's power in Normandy during his early reign there.

Another large contingent was made up of Bretons in fact I believe that the Bretons were to the left Normans in the centre and Flemings on the right
aslo she was from the house of wessex so she actually untiled the anglo saxons and normans in marriage
And thus a french noble became the king of england... Surely having a king as part of your royal court won't bring problems down the line.... I mean, what could go wrong?

There's one historical mistake in this video, the decedents of William stopped ruling England after the war of the roses in the 1480s, replaced by the tudors, and after that the house of Windsor ruled and still rules to this day (Victoria was a Windsor as were all her descendants) also ironically the house of Windsor are actually from hannover in Germany but they had to change to Windsor to sound more English. ( disclaimer, Nothing i said is false so if this is removed for false information then im gonna need some links to sources proving its false, this is because I got my information from 1st hand sources [people who were actually there] the same way you [hopefully] do when making these videos.)
You're right about the different houses (although you skipped Stuart), but even the Windsors actually are still descended from William the Conqueror. Sophia of Hannover was the granddaughter of James I, who was the great-great-grandson of Henry Tudor through his daughter Mary, and Henry Tudor was the great-great-great-grandson of Edward III through the Lancastrian branch of the house of Plantagenet.
The Tudors were direct relations of the Lancastrians and Yorks, who were both direct Angevins, who were direct descendents of William. Who himself was cousins with Harald Godwinson and Edward the Confessor, who were also indirectly related to Alfred and whole Cerdicing line of Wessex
The queen is related to alfred the great as well though
