I don't know I grew up in Scranton and I think Scranton's a waste of time a waste of space it'll take a miracle to bring it back up so I reread it a zero all the way around
Hey! I live in Scranton also and friggin' love it! But I do have a very different lifestyle than most. I spend a lot of time in the outdoors at all times of year. And my work is remote. I can definitely understand why things would be less exciting if you're not an outdoorsy person or are limited to jobs in this region. I do have to defend fall though. I've lived in a few different places around the world and I've never experienced any season as nice as fall in NEPA.
I don't live there anymore, but I was born and raised. Lived there for 23 years. I found it to be a quite depressing place. It kind of beats you down and if you start getting outside of Scranton, you can start to see how much it lacks vs. *many* other cities. I'm glad I moved out.
It literally has em almost everything a big city has . What does it not have ? Not to mention some of the most beautiful wilderness in the country. . Also this lady has no idea what she's talking about .
The problem with Scranton is there are alot of older people living here and they dont want change. They like keeping Scranton old. They vote down anything new.
Life is what you make of it, We the people are out here to create, build and find opportunities when it’s at its lowest. We’re quick to judge but fear to make a difference.
girl, i hear you. thanks for posting this video. there are some small restaurants, typicallyl international foods, but you gotta know where to go. If I can defend one piece of my heart- Scranton's art scene used to be pretty dope (local music, art, theater, etc.) It's a shame because a lot of local venues have closed in the past 5 years. Of course, this isn't NYC or Philly, but First Fridays and things even like the Steamtown Showcase were nice events to see the city buzzing (and actually feel like a city). I'm wondering what the arts will be like post-Covid.
my family moved here early 2010s and its slowly getting better but for a city it's far from serving its hometown people some great food and things to do and you need a car to go anywhere I believe if scranton were to make this focused on the small businesses and more walking friendly it would be great but walmart and target and McDonalds burgers king and wendy's are what people get here, I think its unfair but I did this to be objective about where I live and honestly wanted to share some truth about scranton :)
@@JulissaMercedes 900%. Scranton sucks for basic infrastructure. I didn't have a car for a few years, I lived in a borough outside of Scranton, and would have to take the bus into Scranton, totally out of the way of where my job was, and then get on another bus and backtrack to get to my job. It's insane. And buses stop so early at night, anyone who works outside of 9-5 is screwed if they don't have a car. Most of Scranton is a food desert as well. It's all a mess. Then add on top of it- the taxes are disgusting, which is why it is so hard for so many businesses to even want to operate within city limits. The U makes the most money in the city of Scranton, yet they don't pay taxes because they're a college. Our area is built on years of corruption but I am praying that things might slowly be starting to change. I got trapped here, so I have to be hopeful, otherwise I'll lose my mind.

Moved here a few years ago and I find it charming lol. I don't eat out much and agree about the schools being bad. Really just the schools in Pa in general sucking. Driving through and looking at the old houses and churches and buildings is fun for me though!
If you have a family, and want to live somewhere with affordable housing, this is a great place to live. Especially with remote work becoming more prevalent, there are definitely worse spots to set down roots. Also, it’s a two hour drive from every major metro area on the east coast 👌 but for sure if you want night life, it may not be the most lit town in the world.
@@D5301 😂 Bro you clearly don't live anywhere expensive if you think Scranton doesn't have affordable housing lmao, you're not gonna find a 1 bedroom apartment under $2500 where I live...You'd be lucky to find ANY house under $700,000 here. There's livable houses for like $100,000 in Scranton... It's affordable compared to a lot of the US
I agree. I was raised in Scranton and left when I was 25yrs old about thirteen years ago to move to Florida and it was the best decision of my life. Awesome video. Thanks for posting. :)
Hey I have a question for Pennsylvanians, if you cut it in half and had to focus on the east side what’s the best city to live in for someone in their 20s!
Growing up in Scranton in the 1960's was wonderful. Really, really terrific. During the 70's it started to decline from the big city influx of people. I moved out to Wyoming county Pa in 1979 which is great.
Born and raised, moved away when I went to college. I have memories of some fav food spots (let’s admit it - the pizza variety is tasty!). It was more Blue than Red back in the day too, which I noticed when I came back from college to visit. I agree about the schools (as a kid, I always thought I would never raise a kid in that school system) despite some great teachers. It was a safe and quiet place to grow up in the 70s-90s. Population is predominantly Irish, Italian, and Polish. I liked autumn there too. The surrounding towns each have their charms!
Thanks, Julissa! I really miss Pappa’s Pizza veggie grinders (used to walk from Scranton Central HS there for lunch), special meals at the Robata, and of course Green Ridge Pizza 😍 enjoy some for me and thanks for the video! 😊💕

Great video thanks..I was passing through and got stuck in Scranton for a night flew out the next morning..But I couldn’t get my mind off this city and wondered what it’s like because it’s so beautiful..Now thanks to you ...you answered my questions I had..Thanks again
I lived in Scranton for many years plus old forge. now I'm near Hamlin Pennsylvania. I honestly think Scranton is getting worse, especially the potholes. That's how I know I'm in Scranton there's potholes on every road.🤣
Thanks Julissa for the info. I am an immigrant from Georgia(country) I fkin hate this place. I don't have time to make connections since lots of people are so not trusting nobody. I am working full time and studying online I can figure why I can't make connections lol. But what are best ways to make connections ?
I lived in Scranton all my life and love it except for the fact that the roads are terrible, potholes everywhere and they're not doing anything about it.
1. Its cheap 2. Its only 2 hours from nyc philly and other major cities. 3. Schools are decent compared to many places. 4.crime isnt a major issue 5. Its not in the middle of nowhere. 6. No major traffic issues. 7. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful nature parks in the USA. 8. Its diverse 9. Its cold but not that cold there much colder places and fall spring and summer is gorgeous and Christmas is often a genuine white Christmas ❤️
lmao have you tried Ninas, Caramias, Old Forge Pizza, dunmore candy kitchen, national bakery? try those and make a video about them :) also try Clarks (Buddy Clarks) thats where everyone goes....also any college you go to besides state schools you have to make connections with townies
I have and I can say it's not that great, it's sad honestly how bad the food is here and the standards for good food here is pretty low, so those places meet up with the standards of this area. Also I lived here with my family since 2013 so I guess I am a townie too.

No wonder iM seeing $40,000 6 bedroom homes . No entertainment, no sports teams. 2-3 hours from Philadelphia. I was actually thinking about buying a house there . Not anymore Thank You-for the info/Warning
There's literally a bar on every corner and a HUGE local arts scene. This girl is just talking about the 12 blocks that make up the University of Scranton campus, while the entire urban area is 180 square miles. She just hasn't explored any of it.
Don't care about food or entertainment. Low salary is fine when housing is cheap. One comment says crime is out of control. Could I safely walk around at 2am?
As a male definitely, If I was female I wouldn’t walk anywhere after 9pm. I used to go for long walks at 1 or 2 am and never ever even came close to a problem.
Most people don’t even work in the town that they live in. NJ and NY are right next door. You’re making it seem that people are restricted to just working and eating in just one area. If a person has a vehicle then they can definitely venture outside of where they reside if they so choose to.🤷🏾♀️
it depends who you know, plenty of people don't own cars, there's a large population of Latinos that are working in the factories for 10 or 11 an hour. I used to work at a Starbucks and people were happy to be paid 9.75 which I thought was insane but yeah depends who you know
I lived in Scranton for 10 + years and I think it's pretty spot on. It's like getting trapped in a vortex u can't escape. There is nothing there. The food, jobs, and don't get me started on some of the people that are born and bred there. I wonder how some of them survived into their 20's. Scary!! Depressed area on all counts to say the least. Sorry not sorry Scranton!
I was born in Scranton Pennsylvania and I can verify to you that it used to be a nice beautiful place back in the 90s and before that granted it did kind of go downhill a little bit before the 90s but it wasn't as bad as it is today and everything now it's a horrible place to live in his crime ridden and drugs everywhere and graffiti everywhere and gang violence everywhere my godmother lives down there and she's trying to deny it saying it's not and trying to say New York City is way worse New York City is way better compared to what's going on in Scranton Pennsylvania
Crime? Drugs for sure. Where is the graffiti? Gang violence? There’s no gangs in Scranton. There are sections that are worse that others but it’s definitely not what you are saying it is.
@@jonnybaze7449 just cuz you don't see them doesn't mean they're not there there's always been gangs in Scranton Pennsylvania I know this for a fact because I grew up there I was born in Scranton Pennsylvania I may not live there now but I keep up with the news of where I was born which is natural for people to do so I know what's going on in my own hometown. And there is a total of five different gangs that are active in Scranton Pennsylvania I don't know what you're talking about they're not being any gangs and Scranton Pennsylvania but you're dead wrong not only is there gangs in but we used to have the Mafia that went by the name Bufalino crime family so it sounds to me like you don't know anything about Scranton Pennsylvania and yeah there is graffiti everywhere and all the older historical small towns like one of the small towns my brother lives in and there's many active gangs out there right now like I said there's five of them and they all are from other big cities like New York and Chicago and California and places like that who moved to Pennsylvania because living in the big cities is very expensive and a lot of people are moving out of major major big cities. So I know what I'm talking about I also grew up in the projects in Scranton Pennsylvania so I've seen a lot of crime from gang members the fact that you're saying there's no gang members it's not true.
@@jonnybaze7449 and last I checked Scranton Pennsylvania my hometown where I was born and raised is actually on one of the America's most dangerous places to actually go right now because there's so much crime happening there New York City is not even on the list Scranton Pennsylvania is so I know what I'm talking about like I said I keep up on what's going on in my hometown and I have family that still live down there in Pennsylvania I may live in New York City but I know everything that happens in my hometown like the fact that I know Joe Biden hasn't done anything to make Scranton Pennsylvania better when he was born there too and that's one of the promises he made when he said he was going to become president he was going to better Scranton Pennsylvania and all that and not one thing was done to help Scranton Pennsylvania.
wb I have only tried a couple times both were very good and Clarks summit is good but I don't go out much to since most of the food isn't very good in Scranton
None of what is said in this video is true. It's very obvious that you hang out exclusively on campus and with other college kids. First off, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre are basically one city. It's just stubbornness of local politicians that prevents them from amalgamating. There is a massive and thriving local arts scene with tons of bands, zines, filmmakers, authors, painters, poets, and more. There's a bar on just about every corner and they all stay open until 2, which is the best you're ever going to get outside of New York and Chicago, and about a quarter of those bars have live entertainment. There are lots of museums, local history tours, an aquarium, a baseball team, a hockey team. It's a metropolitan area of around 1 million people. You need to get off campus once in a while.
Thank you for this response! I don't live on campus, and everyone has their own take on Scranton doesn't mean mine is wrong, it's just my own experience.
The assessment on food is laughable. Where are you looking, Applebee’s? There’s incredible food all over the city and great little restaurants. And using Wilkes-Barre as a better option! What!?
Also, the food. Philly has terrible food. I'm a chef and I worked there. Scranton, on the other hand has tons of amazing restaurants and the best pizza outside of NY. LEAVE CAMPUS ONCE IN A WHILE!
Living in Scranton is a living hell especially if youre a homeless person where all that the police do is harass us non stop. Why dont they go do something constructive with their lives and rescue those innocent donuts and coffee. What if someone threatens to murder a donut😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
OK, let me get this right, Scranton food is terrible, the schools and teachers are terrible, the city of Scranton is corrupt, 9 months of the year has terrible weather, income opportunities in Scranton are extremely low with no hope of improvement, but on the upside, you can live in the crime ridden housing projects. 🤔
As someone who grew up in Scranton Pennsylvania and now lives in New York City I can verify to you that it is a very bad place to live in Scranton because the crime is at an all-time high most people who live in Pennsylvania still will try to deny it but it's riddled with crime and drugs and violence and gangs and graffiti all over the place back in the 90s and before the 90s it was a great place to live now it's just a horrible place to live even my family members who still live there are talking about leaving.
Wilkes-Barre is the problem child.. Scranton is absolutely rundown & depressed but WB is in ruin.. should be blown up & rebuilt. I live between these 2 tricked out sister cities.. yay.
Me too and everything about Florida sucks and never seen so much drugs homeless traffic crime and cops in all my life and the summers are brutal and never end. And she thinks it's tough to make ends meet in Scranton she obviously never been to Florida you need like 3 jobs!!!
Ummmmm Marywood is large. University of Scranton is huge. Jesuit $$$ big-time. U should research better. Some of the best American ethnic Irish pub and Italian food on the planet. The St. Patrick parade one if biggest in world. Italian festival food is exquisite Italian street food.
Scranton is definitely not a small town it's literally a small version of New York City it is a area of 25.54 mi² it's a big City built in the middle of the woods I don't know why people keep calling a small town I was born and grew up in Scranton it's definitely not a small town

After see your video I’m reconsidering. Are their any places closer to nyc that you could recommend.
Just watched your video. Any good places to visit or things to do if I'm there for about 3 days? I may be there the first weekend in April.
sorry I don't think anything is really open yet and I don't know of places
Great video thanks..I was passing through and got stuck in Scranton for a night flew out the next morning..But I couldn’t get my mind off this city and wondered what it’s like because it’s so beautiful..Now thanks to you ...you answered my questions I had..Thanks again
thanks for watching
Scranton beautiful?
@@jonnybaze7449 the mountains
@@jayjohndafalcondawg4918 I guess but that’s more of the outskirts/surrounding areas.
@@jonnybaze7449 well ya that’s the only part I saw lol
I lived in Scranton for many years plus old forge. now I'm near Hamlin Pennsylvania.
I honestly think Scranton is getting worse, especially the potholes.
That's how I know I'm in Scranton there's potholes on every road.🤣
Thanks Julissa for the info.
I am an immigrant from Georgia(country)
I fkin hate this place. I don't have time to make connections since lots of people are so not trusting nobody.
I am working full time and studying online I can figure why I can't make connections lol.
But what are best ways to make connections ?
online sadly or move to a different city
I lived in Scranton all my life and love it except for the fact that the roads are terrible, potholes everywhere and they're not doing anything about it.
I've been here my whole life...The only interesting thing for me is who the fuck will win the bell game😩
what would you rate Scranton 0/10?
@@JulissaMercedes Probably 6/10 nothin special, but most of the people are really funny and A lot of crack heads nothin happens here
@@ryedgaff that's pretty high for nothing special, but must feel like home to you
@@JulissaMercedes lol yeah
1. Its cheap
2. Its only 2 hours from nyc philly and other major cities.
3. Schools are decent compared to many places.
4.crime isnt a major issue
5. Its not in the middle of nowhere.
6. No major traffic issues.
7. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful nature parks in the USA.
8. Its diverse
@@JulissaMercedes oh well yeah scranton is really hard if your parents didnt grow up there. i never lived there but my parents grew up there. i have lived in philly, allentown, north carolina, south carolina, thessaloniki greece (only 5 months), nyc and georgia.....scranton has never been sub par food wise lol. aside from living in those places ive traveled 15+ countries and tbh scranton food is still what tastes best. what are your "standards"?
No wonder iM seeing $40,000 6 bedroom homes . No entertainment, no sports teams. 2-3 hours from Philadelphia. I was actually thinking about buying a house there . Not anymore Thank You-for the info/Warning
you're welcome!
If you 30s worried about going to parties… you gotta get your life together
Thank you! very useful. I love outdoor activities (restaurants, bars, nightclubs) and good weather... So probably a no for me.
Good choice!
There's literally a bar on every corner and a HUGE local arts scene. This girl is just talking about the 12 blocks that make up the University of Scranton campus, while the entire urban area is 180 square miles. She just hasn't explored any of it.
If you think of nightclubs as outdoor activities I don't think u belong anywhere
restaurants bars and nightclubs are awesome outdoor activities :)
Don't care about food or entertainment. Low salary is fine when housing is cheap. One comment says crime is out of control. Could I safely walk around at 2am?
I wouldn't personally, it's not safe
As a male definitely, If I was female I wouldn’t walk anywhere after 9pm. I used to go for long walks at 1 or 2 am and never ever even came close to a problem.
Most people don’t even work in the town that they live in. NJ and NY are right next door. You’re making it seem that people are restricted to just working and eating in just one area. If a person has a vehicle then they can definitely venture outside of where they reside if they so choose to.🤷🏾♀️
In the last 30 years i have seen a beautiful little city turn into a sewer due to the greed and corruption of local government
i also don’t know one person making less than 20k in scranton but that’s just me
it depends who you know, plenty of people don't own cars, there's a large population of Latinos that are working in the factories for 10 or 11 an hour. I used to work at a Starbucks and people were happy to be paid 9.75 which I thought was insane but yeah depends who you know
I live in Scranton. Pretty depressing
it's the word around the block lol
Looks like it..:(
The Idaho murders brought me here! 👇🤣 They mentioned a Scranton young man is in custody for the murders. 😱
How has talk back been lately
I lived in Scranton for 10 + years and I think it's pretty spot on. It's like getting trapped in a vortex u can't escape. There is nothing there. The food, jobs, and don't get me started on some of the people that are born and bred there. I wonder how some of them survived into their 20's. Scary!! Depressed area on all counts to say the least. Sorry not sorry Scranton!
I spend $20,000 a year on Pot 🌲 I would have a nervous Breakdown.
thats a lot of ganja
@@JulissaMercedes I know it’s my only vice . 😂
The weather the past like 5 years sucked. We used to have very distinct seasons and I love that.
Love this video, want more of this. Very good content to know. Thanks
More to come!
@@jonnybaze7449 just cuz you don't see them doesn't mean they're not there there's always been gangs in Scranton Pennsylvania I know this for a fact because I grew up there I was born in Scranton Pennsylvania
I may not live there now but I keep up with the news of where I was born which is natural for people to do so I know what's going on in my own hometown.
What’s the local cuisine in WB and Clark’s summit due tell?
wb I have only tried a couple times both were very good and Clarks summit is good but I don't go out much to since most of the food isn't very good in Scranton
The best you can do is shop at Wegmans and learn to cook
@@JulissaMercedes nah you were right
Theres no art here lol
U must be highly offended, cuz she ain't tell no lies!!! Scranton is a wack highly depressed town, ain't shit there
The assessment on food is laughable. Where are you looking, Applebee’s? There’s incredible food all over the city and great little restaurants. And using Wilkes-Barre as a better option! What!?
maybe rewatch the video, the food here is bad maybe average at best
A lot of the big national tours play in Scranton. Clubs definitely suck. There’s plenty of bars that of age people go to.
We think Scranton is pretty cool 😎
damn, and my parents really want to move over there thanks for the info & im from ny lol !!
of course!!! I'm glad this helps and please subscribe so this content gets shared more
Also, the food. Philly has terrible food. I'm a chef and I worked there. Scranton, on the other hand has tons of amazing restaurants and the best pizza outside of NY. LEAVE CAMPUS ONCE IN A WHILE!
taste is subjective sir.
What food places do you recommend?

How’s the dating life in Scranton ?
didn't date in Scranton
Wow you hatin. There’s plenty of great food. Where did you go?
Why do you even live there if you give it such a bad rating?
Is Scranton really that violent. Like is there really that much crime? 🤔 You dont seem distressed.. just bored there.
check the local news, if you want for more sources on crime in scranton and I don't know why I need to look distressed for a video
No. Scranton is still suffering from the opioid epidemic like most places but that’s the vast majority of crime.
The only real crime that's insanely out of control is drug related.
Wilkes-Barre is the problem child.. Scranton is absolutely rundown & depressed but WB is in ruin.. should be blown up & rebuilt. I live between these 2 tricked out sister cities.. yay.
Thank you Julissa for everything! Here’s a little something for you: ua-cam.com/video/Y7ggw365lYI/v-deo.html
