They are coming home with plenty of goods.
The University of Hawaiʻi Men's Basketball team completed a successful road trip and turned back the Cal State Fullerton Titans, 95-86, at Titan Gym on Saturday. The win also kept Cal State Fullerton winless in Big West play 2025.
Gytis Nemeikša led the 'Bows once again with 20 points on 5-for-8 shooting and made all but one of his 11 total free throws. Tanner Christensen was next with 19 on 6-for-7 shooting. Tom Beattie chipped in 16, and Akira Jacobs poured in 14 off the bench.
Donovan Oday led the Titans and all players with a career-high 29 points on 10-for-18 shooting and was 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Zion Richardson poured in 15 and accounted for three of CSF's four total triples. Kobe Young chipped in 14 of his own, too.
Two Nemeikša free throws put UH on the board first, but CSF's Oday quickly responded with a driving layup. UH hit their stride first and made many critical baskets to pull a lead. Back-to-back triples from Beattie and Ryan Rapp gave UH an early five-point advantage, 14-9.
Fullerton tied the score at 16 off an Oday layup, but UH responded efficiently. UH uncorked a 10-1 run and enjoyed as much as a seven-point lead. Fullerton mounted another push and cut the gap to two, but they couldn't get any closer than that.
With 12 seconds left, Marcus Greene executed a drive-in layup to give UH a two-possession gap, 40-36, just before halftime. UH still played solid offensively and defensively, but they committed 10 turnovers in the first half alone to Fullerton's three.
Oday and Beattie traded layups to begin the second half. It appeared Fullerton had some answers, but UH continued to withstand any heat.
Despite CSF's Richardson banking a triple to make it 54-53 UH with 14:32 remaining, UH refused to crack. The 'Bows scored the next six points all from the free throw line to give themselves some space; however, Richardson shaved the gap in half with another triple.
A Nemeikša layup with 3:55 remaining tied UH's biggest lead over Fullerton -- eight -- 83-75. UH's final 12 points all came from the free throw line, and Fullerton was too far back to pose a threat.
For UH, they improve to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in Big West play while Cal State Fullerton fell to 5-12 overall and 0-6 in Big West play. UH has now jumped up to third in the standings after Cal State Northridge fell to Cal State Bakersfield, 94-90, earlier this week.
UH will return home to the Stan Sheriff Center for two home matches against Northridge on Thursday, Jan. 16, and on Saturday, Jan. 18 against Cal State Bakersfield. Both tipoffs are scheduled for 7 p.m. HST. You can watch both games on Spectrum Sports or listen on the radio at ESPN Honolulu.
