About the gazebo thing, there was a dnd game where the players didn't know what a gazebo was when the dm mentioned it, and ended up destroying the damn thing.
IMO, what the DM should have done was just roll with it and have the Gazebo turn out to have been a huge Mimic that the family didn't even know was there (maybe even add implications that the family was secretly housing a "serial killer" who was responsible for some people going missing [when they really just got eaten by the Gazebo-Mimic] when the family was in reality completely unaware and oblivious to the fact that their Gazebo was actually a Mimic). And then _after_ the session is over, the DM could just explain to their players (or show them on their phone/computer) what a Gazebo is. :P

The absolute greatest part of hildibrand for me is that the devs use the quests to test their own character animation software for future content Slow motion, arm and leg movement, facial features, etc. Edit: which you also mentioned, if I’d continued the video before commenting
on the subject of modding; the devs have said that reshade is fine because it's all post processing, it's the same as using nvidia to change the saturation and whatnot of your game. that said, other mods are against TOS because it's illegal to mod games and game systems and whatever else in japan. so its in the TOS to cover them on that front, however, devs have also said as long as you aren't flaunting your use of mods in game or outright cheating they'll turn a blind eye. folks are pushing it tho with some of their mods
Oh god. The TP bar. Ooooooooohhhhh that takes me back. Back to when I dropped Monk on my first character and went white mage because I was tired of running out of TP during a fight and did not know how to replenish it.
The only macro I use in FFXIV for combat other than callout macros (Light parties, spread, partners) is shirk, I have it as /ac "Shirk" to have it shirk to whoever is second in the party list, only so I don't have to target them, cast, target boss again.
My understanding on the 1.0 Hildibrand stuff was that they did it because the game was being (temporarily) shut down anyway, so they decided to just go as silly and goofy as possible with Hildibrand's quest-line just for the hell of it, but players loved it so much that they decided to bring Hildibrand back in A Realm Reborn and most of the following Expansions both because the fans loved it and the devs had so much fun making the Hildibrand quest-lines, so it was a "best of both worlds" scenario where both the fans and devs loved the Hildibrand shenanigans. I also love how they even slipped *_GILGAMESH_* (or rather, "Greg") into the ARR Hildibrand stuff, as Gil is so goofy in his own right that he just fits perfectly into the kind of shenanigans that Hildibrand gets up to.

I"ve been on Brynhildr ever since I started back at the ARR launch. Never left. Honestly it's usually a pretty chill place. We've got a couple regulars, one of which left back in ARR I think for the raiding scene, so most people don't even remember him- but we have our own Thancred cosplayer who is ALWAYS at either the current seasonal event or afk usually Manderville dancing near the tomestone vendors. I've caught their player around a few times but they're usually just afk there- they clearly actually play a lot but almost every single time I'm there, they're just... in their spot. Dancing. .... Hilariously they're my FC's next door neighbor.
As a Dynamis player I can confirm that Dynamis has no players, at least until the travel restrictions. But then those were mostly lifted so Dynamis emptied out again
Hildibrand's Quests are unironically my favorite in the game. Don't get me wrong, I love many of the Job Quests and the MSQ as a whole (not Dawntrail), but *nothing* quite tops that ARR experience with Hildibrand for me lol (Make no mistake, the later questlines made me laugh my arse off too) Might be an unpopular opinion, but I almost miss the mystery/detective bits intermixed with the insanity.
I was used to WoW grinds for over fifteen years of constant subscription, so when I started ARR it was a little jarring but something I was quite accustomed to and went through it patiently. Heavensward caught my attention and drew me in for more, Stormblood was fun for me, Shadowbringers and Endwalkers were both fantastic without any dates to gate me. Dawntrail's only moment of pure joy, for me, was seeing the familiar faces near the railroad; didn't vibe with the rest of it. But my journey from ARR through EW was a wonderful adventure.
The endwalker Hildibrand stuff had me crying from laughing. The goddamn anime blackout part was SO good!

Hildebrand is LEGENDARY. I did the ARR 4 years ago and to this day... NOTHING IN FICTION can top it
