Townes was a fascinating character. He came from a prominent Texas family, very handsome, athletic, intelligent, a gifted songwriter but incredibly self destructive. He was one of the greatest but his worst enemy.
The Dude abides! Great video Carlos, I love Townes Van Zandt. That’s a fine collection of his work that you’ve built up. Lots great information too. Cheers, Jack
love this esp you dressed properly and i dont like to be that dude but the rumours im sure are true are that Dead Flowers is not a Stones cover but rather somewhat of a co write but its murky as Townes could have cared less abotu credit anyway and certainly on any song esp one about heroin and relief from solitude troubles with women life hes not gonna recall what he wrote vs Keff Mick etc......anyay glad it got you into Townes who is in the top few of artists LOVEd by those who know....great viny too thanks - SJOCR
@@AsTheTableTurns Gram was around the Stones more than his own band esp by the end and while the Stones liked him at some point there were apparent nudgings of I think your band wants you at reherseal......
I hope its clear I dont see any of this as plaragism stealing etc I envision such a wild fun crazy atmospehre of drug sex free creatvitiy that it wasnt about who wrote what who had what idea it was just jayuuuum.....IDK much about Wild Horses story i would imagine Gram cotnirnuted a lot but probably either went to his bands reherseal passed out got lucky with emmlou something distracted him and they finished the song nothing wrong with that
like all Townes stories they ae shared amongst his loyal fans....it seems clear he wrote some of it but he wasnt hanging out at stones nor anyones sessions he didnt need their groupies nor drugs and he said he didnt really remember which to me also means he didnt really care either but I suspect he and Keef were jamming....its def got a Townes edge to it.....and then Keef took it to Mick and the Band......I dont think the Stones ever denied Townes had a part in it tho they didnt say it much....
.shux when they covered Bob Wills is still King Mick couldnt even pronounce Waylon Jennigns and im sure he knew while TVZ could care less u mess with Waylon you in a mess of trouble....and that was fully a Waylon tune too....but yes TVZ def sang Dead Flowers and as he saiid in intros had no real idea what parts he came up with and what the Stones did.....lol....ah the goodle days. creativity flowing
I thought that too at first. It does seem like it should be the other way around but it’s a testament to the fact that The Rolling Stones wrote some very poetic songs.
Yes, Mick and Keith, The 'Glimmer Twins' were and are a very exceptional and talented song writing dou.The very fact that Townes chose a Stones song to cover is a testament to that. It's like the adage ' your talking to Noah about a flood'.
Great job on this. Very entertaining and informative
Thank you!
This was great! I'm a huge Townes Van Zandt fan. His songs are covered by so many great artist too!
Thank you! And thank you for watching!

Great stuff! Thank you. I am an Otis Gibbs fan too.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching! Yeah, he's got lots of great insight and facts about many artists.

Haha! I still need to get a few more but I’m pretty content for now with what I have. Thank you!
I think you're absolutely right that Blaze's story is probably more tragic than Townes, and that's really saying something.
So sad
The GOAT
Definitely at the top of the list for song writing.
Does anyone know how Townes made his flatpick “pop” like that?
No idea
your missing 'No Deeper Blue' you need that one.
I'll recommend one you didn't show. Live and obscure is a good album
Yeah, I was concentrating on his studio albums. There are several great live albums! Thank you! I’ll check it out.

Wow! This is the first time I’m hearing that rumor. Isn’t that the rumor for Wild Horses with the Stones and Gram Parsons?

Joe Ely's last name is pronounced "Eee-lee."
Good to know
Towns Van Zant wrote “Dead Flowers.” The Rolling Stones covered it, not the other way around.
False.
You are wrong my friend.
