Thanks Leigh. A really good and useful video for me. I already have this iRig but use it with GarageBand on my iPad. Please make an in-depth video for Amplitube and then I’ll get it! I also love your relaxed and quiet demeanor. So much better than those other loud and in-yer-face, brash UA-camrs out there. Always look forward to your next vids. Cheers!
Hey Clive, If you're looking for an in depth video on the full plug in version of Amplitube I actually shot one in December 2020 where I spent about an hour going over all the options you have inside it and what it can do. It's a fantastic piece of software, so many amazing sounds on offer. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. On camera I just try to be as natural as possible, I don't want to film myself pretending to be some type of on screen character when I'm not like that at all in real life so I'm glad to hear you enjoy that! Thanks for watching as always!
Hi, I'm having a hard time finding my tone on Amplitube iOS. Because it doesn't sound like I expected, it sounds unrealistic in 2025 compared to the PC versions of this app. I think they should improve its sound and maybe they should add Tonex Technology in it to make it sound better. Or is it the interface that I'm using? I'm using the iRig Nano Amp right now, if I use the iRig HDX or the new iRig interfaces, does it change anything?
The Amplitube stuff is really solid, it sounds great, however I'm with you, I wasn't expecting the mobile version to be as good. I knew it would be good but I was surprised how good it sounded given that all the processing is done by the phones chipset rather than a PC/Laptop.
hi. i just got the irig 2 hd, i need to record some samples in wav format (notes from a hurdy gurdy, piezo output). i have ios and android phoones and a macmini. which software should i use? thanks!
I connected it directly to the lightning port of the phone. They used to do an old one that would run of the iPhone headphone jack, but the new ones connect via the lightning port.
This looks just what I have been looking for…. What’s it like in terms of lag / latency ??? Once you hit a string is there any delay before you hear the sound? Or is it like a regular amp, you hear the played sounds right away??
Hey Toby, There was no latency at all when using it. I suspect if you run it on an older iPhone perhaps that might bring some latency in... but on an newer model it should be totally fine. I was using an iPhone 11 for this.
I use AmpliTube (and Bias FX) with an iRig 2 and have had zero latency Started using iRig because I was doing Neural DSP plugins on my laptop but was getting non-stop latency that was just subtle enough to make it impossible for practicing (tho I was told that’s an easy fix)
Thanks for the great video! question please, Can the amplitube app be used as a background app so you can still use it to get the tone, to play along with youtube/spotify/etc... ?
There isn't really a "better", it's just down to what works best for you and your own setup. There are places for both I think. Personally, I prefer analog but I have no issues using digital stuff when I need to.
Thanks so much for subscribing! What digital or analog gear are you looking for the difference between? If it's something I've tried personally I'm happy to share my thoughts on it
You can’t use the iPhone speakers unfortunately. You have to use headphones or connect external speakers to the phone via the headphone output on the iRig
I’m using Irig HD2 > AmpliTube app. I’m trying to hook up a vintage electrodynamic voice microphone to position at acoustic guitar soundhole. I’m having a hard time figuring this all out, thanks for the video!
I believe you get the free version, I am using the full version but the overall layout is the same, the full version just has extra things you can add on.
Sounds good, be interested to see how it stacks up against the Fender Mustang Micro which is awesome for cleanish tones but not brilliant for higher gain
Good vídeo hello guys, I recently bought irig hd2, I'm using the paid irig recorder 3 ios app. I create my own bases /Backing tracks in GarageBand. I can not import the audio of this playback in irig recorder 3 . can anyone help me to solve this? I want to post videos by playing bass on top of my playbacks . Just iPhone , no computar . Thanks Amplitude can do these?
Thanks for the review! Sounds like it might be worth me picking up an iPod Touch. I'm already heavily invested in the Amplitube/IK ecosystem, but I'm definitely NOT an Apple guy.
They also do an Android version too so even if you don't have an Apple phone then you can still get involved! Thanks for checking it out, glad you liked the video. I use Amplitube a lot as a plugin on my PC too, and the mobile version, although less powerful because of the phones processing power, is pretty much just as good!
I can’t get it to do anything. I plug the irig 2 into the iphone and i plug the amp into the amp plug in and the guitar into the guitar plug in i choose my amp on amplitube and effects and i have nothing. Just the sound of my amp. When I turn the amp on amplitube on and off there’s no change in sound whatsoever.
The app or the hardware? I think it’s the same hardware, just change the cable from micro usb (iRig side) to usb c on your android device. Not 100% sure so you may want to check that out and the software is similar on Android via the Google Play Store. IK Multimedia does warn about latency on Android devices, though
Good question, so the iRig in this video is the iOS version, but IK Multimedia also make one called iRig UA which seems to be the Androis counterpart. You can also download Amplitube UA from the Google Play store which is the Android take on Amplitube. I'm not sure if there are any differences, I would suspect not.
@@LeighFugeGuitar The problem with the UA device is that it uses the headphones out from the phone as the line in? in 2022, I am not sure if that's feasible anymore since a lot of companies have ditched the headphones port on their phones. I don't have an Android device myself but I believe it may be just a matter of changing the Micro USB to Lightning connector the iRig2 HD comes with to a Micro USB to USB-C connector and, as you say, Bob's your uncle?
The Android version of Amplitube is no longer supported (though it CAN still be installed from the Play Store), and only supported the iRig UA (also discontinued) to begin with. You might be better off getting an iPod Touch specifically for this purpose.
The hardware (iRig) is universal isn’t it? Meaning that it can be used for other things than Amplitube. Would love to see a comparison with other apps like BIAS FX and Guitar Rig and maybe how they compare to real amps if possible
Yeah, it’s universal if you use it with a laptop as a USB interface, on iOS it would probably work with things like GarageBand too. If you plug it into a laptop or PC it essentially just works as a normal interface then, so any third party plugins would work. I did a long demo of Guitar Rig last year at some stage when Guitar Rig 6 was released. Bias I’ve not worked with though, I’ve not had chance to speak to them yet
@@LeighFugeGuitar ahh right right right. I did see that demo of GuitarRig in your channel. Quite in depth! Thoughts on either one when you get a chance would be wonderful.
Hi, I watched your video just today, very useful, thanks a lot! I have a question. The sound that you get through the headphone output is the dry unprocessed sound of the interface or it’s the processed through amplitude sound? Because I didn’t see any monitoring Mixing controls that interfaces usually have for dry/wet sound.
I was reading up on this before I got one, it’s still in the mail. Apparently you have the option of sending either the raw sound or the processed tone. Can’t remember how it’s done but the write up on them said it can be done.

I have irig the first one and its not connecting to Amplitube in iphone, no pop up nothing , can you help ?
That’s odd, maybe check in your AppStore for updates. If that doesn’t work, I’d suggest contacting IK Multimedias support team via their website
Did you connect it directly to the Lightning port of the iPhone, or did you need to use an adapter?
I connected it directly to the lightning port of the phone. They used to do an old one that would run of the iPhone headphone jack, but the new ones connect via the lightning port.
Is it also possible to just plug in an irl pedalboard straight into the phone? Like guitar ➡️ pedalboard ➡️ iPhone?
Hey Shane, yeah you could definitely do that. You could use the iRig for just an amp sound and run real pedals infront.

Hey, not sure it’ll work over Bluetooth but you could definitely use the headphone output jack to connect it to a speaker that accepts an aux in

Don't think so. Just plug it into a speaker via aux
No, this cannot be done. The phone speaker does not accept auxiliary inputs.
Is the latency better than the I/O Pro?
Great review
When connecting irig to an iPad , can I run backing track on the same iPad and record both backing track and my play with i reg ?
Hey, good question but I'm not sure... I think the app might cut the sound out if you were to close it.
Can you hear the sound through the phone speakers, or need a headphone ? Thanks
You would need to connect headphones or external speakers to the iRig. It doesn’t play back through the phone speakers
@@LeighFugeGuitar Oh thanks. I was looking for something that doesn't cut the sound
dude it doesn't turn on
can you tell me how to hook everything up

All you need to do is plug it into your phone and it should work. What’s yours doing?
Can i use irig2 with amp instead of headphones? Also can i use irig2 with wireless headphones(ipods)?
Do we get the FULL version of Amplitude with the iRig HD? It looks like you’re using the full version.😊
I believe you get the free version, I am using the full version but the overall layout is the same, the full version just has extra things you can add on.
Nice how did you capture you audio from the app?
I ran out of the output of the iRig into an SD card audio recorder - I think there's a section of the video that I talk about that somewhere.
Can you use widi to Bluetooth guitar to iPhone?
I'm not sure, it would be cool if it could do that but I don't know if it can. Perhaps it says somewhere on the IK Multimedia website.
Awesome sounds! How do you have your phone plugged into it I got one just like that but I cannot figure out how to plug my phone into it
Hey. I'm using the IK Multimedia iRig HD2 to plug my guitar into my phone. It just connects via the iPhones lightning port.
Sounds good, be interested to see how it stacks up against the Fender Mustang Micro which is awesome for cleanish tones but not brilliant for higher gain
